Ribs cooked on a Propane Grill
WHAT MALCOM USED IN THIS RECIPE:
- Killer AP Seasoning bit.ly/TheAPRub
- Killer Hogs The BBQ Rub bit.ly/3OGctJd
- Killer Hogs Zero Sugar BBQ Sauce bit.ly/ZeroSugarBBQSauce
- Thermoworks Thermapen bit.ly/2I9Fsnp
Gas Grill Rib Recipe
- 2 racks of loin back ribs - trimmed and silver skin removed
- 2-3 Tablespoons yellow mustard
- 1/4 cup Killer Hogs AP Seasoning
- 1/4 cup Killer Hogs The BBQ Rub
For the wrap:
- 1/2 cup Killer Hogs Zero Sauce
- 1/4 cup Apple Juice
Directions:
1. Apply a thin line of mustard to each rack of ribs and season with the AP Seasoning and The BBQ Rub on all sides.
2. Fire up a gas grill adjusting the burners so the grill temperature is 250-275 degrees. Make a smoke bomb by adding wood chips to a small pan, cover it with foil, and poke holes in the foil. Place the pan to one side of the grill centered over a burner.
3. Place the ribs on the grill and cook for one hour, flip the ribs over for even grilling and continue to cook for another hour.
4. Wrap the ribs in a double layer of aluminum foil - add a little extra dry rub, zero sauce, and a splash of apple juice to the wrap.
5. Return the ribs to the grill and cook meat side down until the internal temperature reaches at least 202 degrees between the bones. It should take about an hour.
6. Carefully take the ribs out of the wrap and place back on the cooking grate. Season with additional dry rub. Cook for 30 additional minutes to set the bark at this point you can sauce the ribs for a "wet style" or serve them dry

Watching Malcolm has turned my bbq game completely around and my family and friends have noticed and are asking me to cook for them all the time. Thanks Malcolm for the page
Dang! Malcom is looking healthy and awesome! I’ve been a fan and a follower since back in the early BBQ Pittmaster days! You’ve always been one of my favorites and I’ve fed a lot of people off of your great recipes! So glad to see you doing well!
Malcom is my spirit animal.
Bro he’s a lot of people’s spirit animal. Including mine.
I haven’t seen a video in a while. It looks like you’ve lost a considerable amount of weight. Keep it up bro!
I want to be friends with this guy
Lol right!!
I want to be his neighbor!
@@sonofsaltme too🤣🤣👍🏻🏴
I want to be family!
@robl39 We all know you don’t have any friends anyways. So he would be your first and only one.
Malcom said “make it rain on dem ribs”! Classic line, Malcolm 4 president 2024!
"We bout to get it dirty y'all" made me giggle
Awesome job on the grill smoked ribs Malcom. Thanks for sharing with us. Fred.
You are looking GOOD my man! Proof you can be a bbq master and still be healthy!!!!
Agreed!
Still alive, not sure how healthy.
Probably on Wegovy or Zepbound. That’s not a bad thing. Probably a huge improvement to his health. I bet his blood pressure and cholesterol are way down.
Healthy? He is clearly obese. He’s a great guy and all, but let’s not fool ourselves.
It's serendipitous that the day you posted this, my wife brought home two racks of spare ribs for the new propane grill. I've never cooked ribs on a propane grill before, but here were the instructions laid out before me. The ribs have been on the grill for an hour and a half, and I'm just looking forward to trying them out! Thank you for not only the inspiration, but for breaking this down Barney style. Much appreciated!
Well? How did it turn out?
@@pgrant7688 really good; I mean, a layman like me pulled some awesome ribs out of my rear with Malcolm's help. 🍻
Malcolm is the Best !! God Bless Him !!
Love Malcom man, this guy comes off to me as very genuine and his videos are easy to watch and follow. Thank you!
Thank you Malcom ! ! ! ! ! !
Always look forward to your content Malcom! Loved this recipe 🤙🏻
You can use a Smoker tube with Treager pellets and throw it into the gas grill. Set it to 250 and BOOM your gas grill is now a smoker! I been doing this and get SUCH GREAT FLAVOR!!!!!! I got a few smoker tubes on amazon. Love it much better than wood chips or smoker boxes. Smoker tube with pellets (especially the 12 inch long one) can last hours with consistent smoke! You can preheat the pellets during grill warmup to dry them out and help keep them lit while burning. LOVE IT
Awesome
Looks fantastic!
Very interesting unit. Still waiting for that tour of the smokehouse though. :)
Agree plus he’s never addressed why he ditched Traeger
@@JRSmith-gb9hz seriously, since when? Guess I haven't really noticed or just assumed he has so many units that he doesn't mention them any more.
I'd like to know too, if that's the case.
Used this method works great
Looks great!!!
Straight BBQ school! I have all your seasonings. Nothing like learning from the best!
I use a Weber Natural Gas grill I use. I got a stainless chip box I use for steaks and stuff I put between the grate and burner all the way to the back and in the middle when I go to heat up the grill. I like gas for my everyday because I don’t have a lot of time most days. I’d like to have a grill like this next time though possibly.
As others have said, my BBQ skills have improved immensely since watching Malcom’s videos. He never dissapoints.
same here. Thank you, Malcolm!
Looks tasty! Love ribs!
Malcolm covers all the bases, even the hard to please propane grill...Lets get Malcolm and Company Over the Two Million Mark this Summer...He works hard for us!
Looks really good👍
Great video!!
Thanks for doing the LP grill method which I tried for years and never had any luck.
Good cook. I have been using a gas grill for years. The smoke bomb is the way to go. Neat grill with the temp control.
Malcom was the uncle I needed to teach me how to que! Thanks Malcolm your looking good brother
Looking forward to bumping into you again, shopping for groceries to cook!😊✌️👍🏻
Lookin good Malcom! 👍
Nice job...always enjoy content creators presenting options. Not everyone has an arsenal of kit for cooking.
Love this video. I have a propane grill, and will be trying this. Thank you! 😊
Malcom is looking good! Looks like you’ve lost a bunch of weight. Good job bro, I’ve been a serious weight loss journey myself. Down about 50 lbs since December but I still come to this channel for my Sunday treats! Keep up the good work and thanks!
Only Malcolm Reed can get me to watch a video about cooking ribs on a propane grill. I'll have to admit those ribs looked awesome!
“Make it rain on those ribs” Best line to say when seasoning ribs or any food! 😌
Huge fan of your content but yet alone the recipes you make. I'm up in Canada but I recently just received my "The BBQ RUB" which I'll be trying out tonight on the smoker (ribs and lobster tails tonight).
Needless to say great video and keep up the great content!
I think you’re smart doing this Malcom. There are a lot of your followers who are maybe newer to BBQ who only have a propane grill (I used to be one of them.) if they get the bug, they’ll eventually move on to charcoal or wood, but there are not many people with your pedigree on YT showing good gas grill content. 👍🏻
“Close is good enough for me” haha words to live by
Yes I know yummy 😋. I tryed with my gas smoker was great. They are so good my mother-in -law has to try a rub as a snack. You have made my grilling a 5 🌟.
Awesome work there. I have 2 propane grilles and will be converting one of them to natural gas next time my plumber shows mid June. I love the speed of gas and I understand the flavors of charcoal. I cooked with charcoal for 30 years but now I like the convenience of propane/gas. Thanks for that video.
Having a natural gas line is a game changer for a gas grill. No “range anxiety”
Beautiful ❤ thanks
finally a gas grill video on you tube , many of us do not own smokers or charcoal grills even , we just use our gas grill with a small smoke box inside .
I have a gas grill and my smoke box inside is a piece of foil I formed in a bowl 😂. It works though!
It’s a long time coming. I’ve made some good ribs on a gas grill just by searing it at high heat for color, then wrapping in butcher paper and cooking at 250F for a few hours. It turns out great, just as the video says, but you taste the meat more and don’t get a smoky note.
Yummmm.... Makes me hungry for some of them ribs!
Nice! My dad cooks on a gas grill and I always wondered how to do good ribs on gas.
I have learned so many tips from you over the years, now when I fire up my smoker and the neighbors stop over to see what’s on the smoker, then I make my rounds dropping off containers.
😱 Malcom! I’ve never seen you cook on gas. You’re looking good brother!
“Can’t complain on the temps!” 🤜🏽🤛🏽
I use my grill sometimes as well for ribs but hard to beat my Gator Pit smoker, you knocked out another good cook Big Dog👍🏼👊🏼
Cool grill
They look great. And judging by your reaction at the end, I'd say yeah, they taste great too.
For $699...That Members Mark Pro Serries Grill is GREAT!!!
I enjoy the video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
We do it with a pellet tube and light it with a small torch, and it works good. Liked the video.
I just saw a flyer that you will be hanging out with Mitten BBQ in July!
My dental office is in the same parking lot and I am super excited to meet you! See you in July!
Oh my they look good enough to eat ....... I want some right now
I followed the advice from your old video using a smoke tube Memorial Day weekend. Easiest rib cook I ever did. Great advice. Now show me how to do a brisket flat. 🤠
Malcolm is an OG
Would love to hang out and have a beer with this master griller.
Malcom is my spirit animal
What is a spirit animal?
@@RicardoZ590 im not entirely sure..
You couldn’t sound anymore gay!
@@johnlebzelter4208 lol.. you sound like me.. i normally save that for other places on the internet haha
My should try making fried check with your rub I was shocked by how well it worked out
I have smoked pork belly many times, but never thought to fry it
That's how I did my ribs before I had a smoker...still like that texture. It's different than a smoked rib.
nice
Melcom has some of the best tasting rubs out there
That grill is a beast. Need one 😂
Just looked, waaaaay cheaper than I expected it to be lol might have to get me one
Malcolm for king of grill
Malcom is the king of raining seasoning on ribs.
Hank would approve
I have a Char-Broil brand, four burner gas grill. I have verified the thermometer in the lid with an oven thermometer sitting directly in the center, on the grates, and it is dead on. With the two outer burners at their lowest setting for indirect grilling, it will register and maintain 225 F all day long (except in the middle of a North Dakota winter, when I have to tweak it up a tiny notch). With two smoker boxes sitting above the outside burners, I can approximate a pretty darn respectable "smoker". Thermostatic control would seem to be a waste on my grill.
Was already hungry for some ribs, and watching this made it worse. Made pulled pork over the holiday weekend, which I learned how to do by watching Malcom. It's not easy to find pit masters who WANT to show other people how to do it right. BBQ done right is way too good not to share with everyone who wants to learn. Thanks, Malcom, for making it accessible to all of us.
Mmmm
Malcolm you've lose weight! You look good man! And I love your cooking videos! I have made many dishes over the years! Thank you! Cheers!
Looking 👀 Good Malcom like always!
Going to smoke 4 racks on my 26” Weber Kettle. Just have to decide which wood I will use. I’m doing Fall off the Bone this time with your BBQ Rub. Oh Yeah! 2 Sauced, 2 Not.
Had no idea Sam's Club had such a nice propane gas grill. Kinda wish I knew this before buying my current propane gas grill. LOL
Nice promo for that new gas grill.
He bought that on a whim from Sam’s Club. Not a sponsor. Not a promotion. Just an experiment. My man is running out of video ideas but needs to keep cranking out content to get new subscribers. Most of his “new” videos are repeats of the older ones - including this one
Terrific!! Looking for a temp controller propane grill!! Thanks--
Best bbq set up in the game. If i ever design a grill i have to send you one to test. My only question is how is ventilation in your smoke room? I can tour if you can’t explain it
Try catching him at memphis
Steve, I believe, was saying that he was taking 25 mg and had great results. 💪
Looking slim Malcolm!
I'm a charcoal and wood man for life but this is interesting knowledge in case I ever need to use the devils gas lol
You can ramp up the smokiness with a legit smoker box. You can even add 2 of them in there.
When I use my gas grill I use a smoke tube with pellets.
I want Malcom as my neighbor!
Can’t go wrong with mustard 😊
I find your content rewarding. My question is, can we season with mustard and (garlic salt)only?
Traditional seasoning is pepper and salt at a minimum. Best results are with some variation of SPGO (salt pepper garlic onion). You would NEVER choose garlic salt or onion salt because you want to be able to adjust the radio to taste which is impossible with those. Additionally you want the garlic (and onion) in granulated form rather than powder. There’s really no use for premixed garlic powder around a grill or smoker. The mustard isn’t a seasoning at all - you won’t taste it at all in the end. Mustard is just used to get those dry rubs to stick. Without a binder you get a lot of bare spots and waste a lot of rub
My sensei,
You are looking great, congratulations.
Propane is heresy, come back into the fold😂
I have been using a propane smoker for years with great success. You should have had your "smoke bomb" on there earlier & not put the ribs on until you had a good amount of smoke rolling. I have an aluminum wood chunk tray that sits just above the flame and below the water pan. With a full 2 hours in a smoke filled enclosure you get a nice smoke ring & flavor. Mine do NOT taste grilled.
I wonder if he made a bigger smoke bomb and started it earlier if they'd taste a bit closer to actual smoked ribs. I think it's worth another test.
They make decent smoke tubes for use with wood chips or pellets. But none of those gadgets will come anywhere close to a dedicated smoker
Looks great, but how much propane did you use? Just curious if you need to have an extra tank handy. I might try this if I can get the propane side of my duo to hang out at temp.
You should ALWAYS have an extra tank handy. Even without years of experience propane seems to run out at the most inconvenient times.
That being said 250F is a very very low setting and a thermostatically controlled grill is super efficient. One full tank will be sufficient for at least 3-4 rib cooks
Husband cooks baby backs porchetta style on gas rotisserie that are absolutely delicious.
goat
You should've put the wood chips on 1st and got the smoke going, then add the ribs.
Hey Malcom great to watch another video. I have a question I am asking for a friend. How would you cook ribs on an old time gas grill, you know like a Kenmore or maybe a Montgomery Ward style from the early 2000's. That's a really nice grill but we can't afford that high end product. Thank you.
Outstanding as always. Can you get around to doing this with direct heat? I know it will be set to low, but I would like to see what happens and I know you will do it right. Pun intended.
If you cook with propane at normal grilling temps the meat will be dry and tough texture. Lower temps allow the fats to render giving the desired juiciness and texture. Can’t skip the wrap either - that’s when the meat steams in its own juices
Go one step further after you get them to temp after you’ve wrapped them put them back on the grill with some bbq sauce in nice sear have them ribs fall off the bone
0:25 😮
If you could give a percentage of the propane flavor. What would it be? Also can you tell us about how much propane you used. 3.5 hours. 😊
Is it just me or has malcolm lost some weight
Right on man
