I remember trying to rent Cobra from the local video store when it was first released. It took forever to finally catch it when it was in stock. Totally worth the wait , it was awesome. This generation will never know our struggle.
I remember trying to rent it in the mid 90s one summer day. We rode our bikes to blockbuster. I was like 10 or 11 and they wouldn't rent it to us and I was so pissed. Showed up that evening with my dad and got it lol.
Fun fact ya all,Corey Eubank was the stuntman who drove Cobra's Merc off that parking garage! Guy who started jumping the General Lee at 19 yrs old. His dad was Doug Eubanks, the Newly Wed Game Host. Anyhow..when he jumped off garage, the car hit so hard that the throttle stuck, couldn't reach brake and kill switch was only a momentary switch. So every time he stepped on the floor, kill switch he wood let off and car would Rev back up. He was used to a solid on an off switch, like the floor mounted high beam switch on the General Lee's. So he ended on a public highway an had to stack it into a median wall! Look it up! I seen Corey tell about yrs ago!
The market in the movie was actually called The Boys Market and the school across Manhattan beach Blvd was originally named The Edison Elementary school. It first opened in 1958 I attended Kindergarten in 1958 thru the fifth grade. Winchell's Donuts was a place I went to every Sunday morning after my paper route. The barber shop was owned by a man named Roger and I had my hair cut many times! Next to that was Reuben's shoe repair where I worked after school and on Saturday. Good memories of childhood in the 50's and 60's! I'm now 71 and living a great life in Vietnam. I still think of my life growing up in Redondo beach and and my old classmates like Tim Lehigh,Jim Talley, and Sue Waits whom I had had a crush on since Kindergarten. I sincerely hope they are all alive and doing well. My Name back then was Darwin Neal but I've since changed to Sam Adler ( long story! ) anyway I hope all my former classmates have had a great life and would love to hear from any of them! ATB Sam Adler from Vietnam.
I have a answer for you about the pizza. Cutting pizza with scissors is very common in Italy. You would buy a pie and it would come uncut. The locals use scissors to cut off whatever size slice they would like. There was a little restaurant in Florence that had pizza by the slice but you decided how big or small you wanted it. They cut it to size, put it on a scale, and charged by weight. What I never saw was someone cut a bite off a slice with scissors. They eat each slice just like we do but they don't use one of those wheel cutters. My guess is that Sly went to Italy and saw the locals using scissors and incorporated it into the film even though its unnecessary because pizzas in the US come pre sliced.
Stallone cutting his pizza with scissors gave me the idea to use them when I don't have a pizza cutter available for a whole pizza. Works pretty good. Been doing it for like 30 years.
thank you. Classic, idiosyncratic 80s movie. I always figured he cut the pizza with scissors in that iconic scene since it was frozen, although obviously not typical. The box the pizza's in is too small to even fit more than a couple slices. He also keeps his gun cleaning kit in the freezer in the egg carton. Perhaps he keeps both together in the name of efficiency because he doesn't want to open both the fridge and freezer.
I just discovered your channel and the truth is that your work is wonderful. Cobra was one of my favorite movies as a kid. I love the 80s and I feel so nostalgic for those years. Greetings from Argentina!
Oh man I was just by those white steps in Venice that the thug falls from, when I visited LA, and did not even realize it. It's my favorite film of all time. You're the greatest.
These videos are awesome! As a huge admirer of LA and its landmarks and landscapes, and all of these nostalgic movies, just very interesting. Thanks for the effort to collect it all. No era will ever beat the 80s and 90s. So grateful to have been born in 1980.
I lived in Piru, CA, when this movie was being made. I was 6 years old at the time. My friends and I also met Sly and would watch daily from a distance the filming of this movie. It was awesome watching them blow up that building. This movie will always hold a special place in my heart because of it.
Great job on this video. I believe that this might be the first dedicated location video on Cobra. One of the fun things about this film was the choice of locations in LA - Venice, Long Beach, the downtown area and the fictional town of San Remos - many of which I always wondered exactly where they were. Thanks to this video, we now know! I believe South Grand lower and 4th was also used in the RHCP Dark Necessities video with the skater chicks.
The pizza!!!!!! My buddy and I have had an inside joke about cutting pizza with scissors since we say this as kids. Such a ridiculous thing to be excited about, but man oh man, when you brought it up I was like "RIGHT!!!"
Fun Fact: I believe I read this on IMDB but Stallone was considered the lead for Beverly Hills Cop but more serious not a comedy. After Murphy was selected Stallone took his rendition and made Cobra. Anyway its a good movie and you did another fantastic job finding these hidden treasures.....
Beverly Hills Cop, 1984 was first going to be in Pittsburgh PA not Detriot MI with Sly playing a cop who would steal a high tech experimental pistol 🔫. That plot, script was sent to actor Mickey Rourke but he declined it. The film was converted into the action comedy with Eddie Murphy.
Murphy was cast after Stallone turned it down. They were not in competition for the role. Stallone was the first choice but left over creative differences. He wanted more shoot'em up and less comedy. But yes, Cobra was his answer to BHC.
This is one of my favourite movies and favourite episodes of filming locations that you’ve done. I look forward to more of your filming locations. Thanks broski
Wow I had no idea the opening scene was filmed on Redondo and Inglewood ave, I used to live right down the street on Inglewood and 168th . classic film!
This was actually Stallone's answer to Beverly Hills Cop. He was the first choice for Axel Foley but declined due to creative differences. He wanted more action and less comedy.
Incredible work, man! I only can put my hat off to acknowledge your effort and dedication to locate all Cobra's filming spots. I think your videos is the best in TH-cam when it comes to Cobra's filming locations and I really appreciate it since I'm a big fan of this fantastic and underrated movie. Thank you and keep the good work going 👍
that was SO MUCH FUN! I didnt grow up in CA, but have lived here in LA the last 21 years. I LOVE seeing filming locations pointed out, especially when they are everyday places i may have seen so man times and didnt know. Keep the great work!
"Go ahead, I don't shop here." is one of the funniest lines ever in a movie 😂😂 edit: Forgot to say thanks for the great work here, man. You really put a lot of love into these videos, it's really appreciated getting to see a local firsthand view of some of the shots of these great classics.
Thanks another fantastic filming location I still have the movie on VHS in storage my favorite two parts of the movie is Cobras car and night slashers knife I want to get my hands on it. Thanks again really enjoyed it. alright take care stay safe and have a good one looking forward to your next video👍
Damnit, you were right next to my house! I would’ve invited you over to listen to some Prince records... also, across the street from the 99 cent store is the location of the former World Industries warehouse (skate nerd stuff...)
Working to hard trying to make a living hassling all day I've had all that I can take Cobra driving his Ford Mercury what an amazing 80s scene right there.
I remember seeing Cobra at the Van Nuys drive in Where Vista Middle School is Located...We would tie up the wire on are car antenna and turn on our radio on AM and hear through our car speakerz...
This is Awesome! Great to know that some of the locations haven't changed so much and perhaps one day I may be able to visit! Thank you for sharing this epic video and keep up with the good Work!
Absolutely love your channel, I've always been curious about filming locations since I visited SoCal back in the 80s.... I've good some binging to do, love the content
That 99 cent store used to be The Boys Market then I believe it was Builders Emporium. That was Jack's Barber Shop and of course the CHP used to hang out at that Winchells
One of the greatest movies ever 👍
I can watch this movie a thousands of times and never get tired of it.
Go ahead, I don't shop here! 🛒
These movies don’t go out of style

80s action flicks were the best.
I remember trying to rent Cobra from the local video store when it was first released. It took forever to finally catch it when it was in stock. Totally worth the wait , it was awesome. This generation will never know our struggle.
I relate to you. ❤
I remember trying to rent it in the mid 90s one summer day. We rode our bikes to blockbuster. I was like 10 or 11 and they wouldn't rent it to us and I was so pissed. Showed up that evening with my dad and got it lol.
The greatest generation of that time.
Cobra definitely not forgotten.
My second favorite stallone movie.. RIP "Gonzales" Reni santoni
Criminally underrated film.
Another 80's classic. Awesome Kurt. 👍
another excellent piece of work Sly fans haven't forgotten about Cobra. ;)
Absolutely
Love the part where Stallone takes a drink of the beer as he confronts the supermarket killer.
“Your a disease and I’m the cure”. Best line ever
Actually it's "You're a disease". I don't own an "a disease".
I like when he says “you know it’s bad for your health.” “What is?” “ME”
😂😂😂😂

The pizza with scissors. The animated Pepsi pouring display in the grocery store. I'll never forget those things about this movie.

Oh man I was just by those white steps in Venice that the thug falls from, when I visited LA, and did not even realize it. It's my favorite film of all time. You're the greatest.
The "Reporter" in Stallone's face is former KSAT-12 (San Antonio, TX) Sportscaster Joe Fowler. He was a hilarious dude.
What made this movie really tough was the Gummy Bears, without them, there was no hope !
Trouble with you is you're too violent 🤣

I read the same thing. That's why in BHC, there was a blonde actress that was supposed to be Stallone's love interest.

I love these videos. I'm an 80s kid and damn do I remember it fondly. Your commentary is hilarious too. I would love to see you do Fletch. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! Fletch would be great.. I love that movie
About cutting the pizza.. Cobra has his carbohydrates in check, that's probably why he cuts it and eats 1/3 (roughly ~120kCal) of a slice.
Excellent showing.Thank you for your hard job for our entertainment!
Thank you so much
Thank you!! I love this movie. I always wanted to be him!

This was actually Stallone's answer to Beverly Hills Cop. He was the first choice for Axel Foley but declined due to creative differences. He wanted more action and less comedy.
