I just received mine today, I can't wait to use it. I love the colors. Angel face was popular when I was a kid. It seemed to be sold more to the younger lady so maybe that is why the coverage is lighter.
My mom and her sisters were in high school from the 50s to the early 80s(large family of all girls, 20 yrs difference between the oldest and youngest) and they wore a ton of pancake make up, cat eye liner and lipstick. I see a lot of vintage videos where it wasn't 'proper' for young girls to wear that much makeup, but they went full glam lol. They were very poor and took great care of their clothes, makeup and hair. I always say we mature faster in the south, but back then they still married girls off pretty young because they were so many other kids in the house and it was just the way things were done. When I was 21 my grandpa asked if I was gonna be an old maid lol. Anyway, they will be so interested to know these things still exists. I show them these videos sometimes and it tickled them to death.
Thanks for including Posner. I'm African American and used Posner when I was younger. I didn't know it was started in 1948 .It is still being sold today and I use the lipsticks. I'ts good to know black women back then had makeup that adressed our unique needs.
Pan Stik and Lasting Performance Foundation were my favorites as a teen. Both stayed put better than any drugstore Foundation I've had back then. I hope MF will bring their products back to the 🇺🇸
Vintage makeup is fun but idk if I would ever personally wear a vintage foundation simply because the technology for foundation has come such a looooong way.
Back in 1976, I remember my mom using Maxfactor cream whip foundation in a small jar and when my kid brother hit earth in 1969 mom was using Revlon liquid foundation Glo now granny used Coty loose powder and Hazel Bishop rouge in a small round tin
DuBarry was sold at Woolworths Five and Dime stores ,It was a makup I bought in the 60s as a young teen. My mother used the Max Factor in the white swivel con tainer. Thanks for the memories!
Wow ya really know how to do your research. I have bought several of the products you have spoken of and I have been very pleased. Thanks again for sharing all the wonderful history .
Y'all, Max Factor was my favorite makeup back in the day. It sucks that they don't sell it anymore in stores. This company was the makeup to the stars in the 1920's. Love the video!!!!
So fascinating! The vintage packaging is beautiful. If you're ever in LA, you have to visit the Max Factor building. It's a tourist trap museum, but the ground floor has tons of vintage makeup on display and some original Max Factor makeup/dressing rooms in tact, fully decorated. Vintage makeup treasure trove.
Thank you for all the research you do your videos are a delight to watch and listen too . And they bring back happy memories of my mum who used Ponds xx
Always enjoy your videos. Did you know that the cosmetic company,Merle Norman, was founded in 1931. I do believe that you can purchase some of the same products today. Have a wonderful week 😊
@@vetervgolovy I used it too, started in my teens. Changed to Clinique, in my ‘30’s. But, was wondering how Merle Norman is today. My mom used it until into her ‘80’s!!
Dear Laura, unfortunately Miracle Touch has absolutely nothing to do with Pan Cake. In fact no other Cake foundation is comparable to Max Factor's one. The original formula is still patented and no one can copy it. When Procter & Gamble closed the brand's US factory, they stopped making the products they used to produce there, including Pan Cake. And although it has been discontinued for about 20 years, the formula is still protected. I know it well because it is the PERFECT makeup for my skin, and I have tried more than 9 foundations of this type (almost all the professional brands of makeup make this type of foundation) and none of them come close to the original. It is made as a paste to which the water is completely drained and then it dries. For this reason it is a makeup that can only be "activated" with water. It has 40% pigment, which gives total coverage to the skin, and because of its formula it is a corrector, foundation and powder in one product. It holds in perfect condition all day (it was created to withstand the enormous heat produced by the spotlights) and everything you apply on it, eye shadows, blush ... holds in perfect condition. I still have two compacts that I use very little because, if you still find one, it usually costs more than 150 dollars... That makeup is just a DREAM!!
I have extremely oily skin and I have bought almost all of the foundations in Sephora even luxury brands too. But I always go back to using Max Factor's Pan Cake. My skin looks immaculate at the end of the day. Unlike when I'm using liquid foundation where my face is cakey and messy by the end of the day 😆. I was able to find some more stocks of MF Pan Cake in Zalora (SEA Asia), so I hoarded
There is also Merle Normam foundation called Powder Base and it was created in the 1930s. I've been using it for couple of years and I love it. One of the main ingredients is zinc and it acts as a physical sun block. It has a buildable coverage, and I set it with loose powder. it stays on all day. I just love it!
I think it should also be noted that throughout the 20s and 30s many women would use vanishing cream as a base and then liberally dust loose powder (such as Coty Airspun Powder) on their faces to create a foundation. Also Covergirl Clean Makeup liquid foundation has been around since at least the early 60s and is still widely available today.
Max Factor has a limited shade range especially in pancake makeup. If you are looking for a dupe that work just as well and is often compared to the original. You should check out Ben Nye Pancake Makeup and works the same. In a plethora of shades from porcelain to the deepest of chocolate.
I used to love Revlon's Touch and Glow liquid makeup in the color Rachel as well as Ultima II from the sixties. I love the smell of Cover Girls foundation
I love all of your videos. They are so amazing! Thank you for the great and wonderful memories. My mother used to wear the cosmetics that you have showed. Including Ponds cold cream and Chanel 5 perfume. Wonderful Chanel. 💝
I use Pan Stick on my facial discolorations-hyper pigmentation. It is THE BEST and completely and effectively. I love it and remember using it as a teenager. I also have the Max Factor creme powder/foundation. These are classics and are the best!
Look for power compacts that you can put your own choice of powder in such as Stratton's. Rimmel London do a pan stick, so do several other British cosmetics companies including Boots No 7 range.
In the 90's, Angel Face by Ponce was really popular in Mexico. It was almost every girl's first make up where I was living. It was inexpensive and easy to find in drugstores. Max Factor was targeted to adults. Not as many options as we enjoy today. Big stores had Clinique, but I was all about Estee Lauder and Lancôme, also for adults, but still!
Angel Face also came in a tube cream form which I did wear in the 1960’s in the shade”natural”- it had a light , slightly matte finish in a light rose beige shade- I loved it at that time as a young teenager...before Revlon’s “Blush on” was introduced as a blush in the mid 60’s I believe☺️💕
Could you make a video about spring/summer 50s and 60s fashion, mostly inspired by marilyn, audrey, grace kelly etc.? Also how to shop for that kind of clothes in high street brands? Love your channel! 😊😊
I enjoy your vintage videos very much. I’m a big fan of classic movies, and it’s a real connection to the recent past to try out some of the beauty products the stars used in their day. It is remarkable that you can find so many items that are still available today. I have already bought the Queen Helen Mint Julep Face Mask and the Fracas and Black Jade eau de parfum. I love all three! I received a few of the Erno Laszlo face products for Christmas too. Thank you for the great research you do.
Back in the 70s I used a cream foundation by Revlon called Moondrops, I loved it and used two cream blushes by Helena Rubinstein. They both felt good on my skin, I dearly wish these two items would come back along with Bonnie Bell's Ten O Six. Lots of wonderful products from the 70s.
Thank you so much for the wonderful video, I always really enjoy your videos they’re very informative and I like the music that you play in the background it’s so perfect to match with the content

Pancake used water to mix into a paste. Not the same as Miracle Touch at all. I used Pancake on stage in the 70's. It is very matte and covering. Miracle touch needs powder and it much lighter weight.
