@@killerpalkia The guys on above didn't say it correctly the one that died not director but the author of the original manga on past they hospitalized and make the entire manga hiatus now the author died and i really sure, the anime never get second season because 1. making anime is expensive 2. you need good amount of source to just create 1 whole season we already discuss this on MAL forum. if you like, you can came there and following our disscussion... share your opinion... and you will be understand... it's sad but that's the reality
I just watched this about 2 months ago. Then i learned that the author died years ago. And heard that a small group of people are trying to revive the manga of HOTD. I really hope it continues, i felt the connection between the characters and their chemistry was really really tight.
HOTD, in my opinion, did a good job of combining anime and zombies. I really do hope that it gets another season or at least a continuation of the original story, cause damn it's good.
i like how there are still people talking about this anime. it's sad that the author has gone and there's no clarity about the continuation of this series. but nevertheless i'm still hoping

If he really wanted to he could've kept the series going but he began working on another manga while his brother was sick. Out of respect for him I assume Shoji just wanted to leave HOTD behind. I'm pretty sure both came up with the story together so theirs not like the story didn't have a blueprint. I'm fine with it ending on Shoji's terms tbh. I don't want another Monty Oum situation. In terms of anime if they really wanted to they could've done an original ending with the mall via an ova. The manga "ended" during a supply run. The anime could just claim the mall became a safe haven lol similar to the original planned ending of TWD with Alexandria without the depressing after math. HOTD was on hiatus on and off regardless because of Daisuke's health. Madhouse already barley do 2nd seasons anyway. The odds of 2nd season from madhouse even if the manga was ongoing/finished would've been slim.

I don't get it why people are still waiting for some kind of continuation. The anime was mediocre on its best moment. Action scenes? Meh. Story? There wasn't. Characters? Average Anime School Trope ever. Zombie situation? Average "End of the world as we knew it" which you would find on TWD. Do you know why I still remember this anime? Two reasons. This kick-ass opening (Seriously, one of my favourites ever made), and that my 14-years-old me found this anime and the bath scene on that moment of your life when each boy is more like an ape than a man.
I hope the opening for the anime Gate, which was also performed by this band also get a 2021 remake. That song was also epic : ( and yeah still hoping for high school of the dead sequel : (
