I grew up in Dubuque and moved in 1983. A lot has changed since then. The infrastructure of the city and the surrounding area has improved greatly. Every time I return for a visit I’m impressed with what they have done. I love watching your videos. Keep them coming!

Thanks, Steve. I've seen the changes here since I first visited. I agree the changes are like night and day.

I drove through Dubuque on a cross country road trip from Maryland to Northern California in the summer of 2012 when I was 9 1/2 years old, and that was the first time I had memory of seeing the Mississippi River, plus a model and real paddleboat from the Dubuque-Wisconsin Bridge. That day of driving, we drove from my mother's college friend's house in Platteville, Wisconsin, down the US 151 to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and the I-380 to Iowa City, before staying on the I-80 all the way to the night's stay at a hotel in Kearney, Nebraska.

That's a nice drive, nicer now that 151 is four lanes now. Thanks for watching!

@@TheSolarcatcher The previous day, we also drove on part the Stagecoach Trail between Lena and Warren, Illinois to get to Platteville after taking US 20 from Rockford to Lena. Warren felt magical because it seemed like a little town lit up sitting on a hill of a country road in the middle of nowhere.

Dubuque has oddly really good infrastructure for a city it's size

    • @TheSolarcatcher
      @TheSolarcatcher  2 ปีที่แล้ว

It does. Iowa really planned the roads here. It's one of the reasons why Dubuque has thrived.

@@TheSolarcatcher absolutely. I live in La Crosse about 2 hours north. Very Similar River cities as well as city population. My metro area wins but Dubuque freeways tops it all. Rounding a rock wall from Wisconsin going over a beautiful green bridge and being rewarded with a freeway through downtown and seeing the mini "skyline" Dubuque has? And then a couple of Intersections can take you literally anywhere in the country. Amazing

What a great video! It’s been at least 5 years since I was last up to Dubuque. I have never driven highway 32 or that corridor. I’ve been in and out on both US 20 and 151 highway many times. But that northwest bypass on former 32 is all new to me. Dubuque continues to grow for sure! Have a Merry Christmas season this year! Mark in southeast Iowa.

Thanks, Mark. Northwest Arterial has played a lot of musical chairs over the years. It's not bad as a bypass, but just busy.

All that, and US 151 as well! Back in the truckin' days (when dinosaurs roamed the Earth), I always loved the drive on 151 up to Madison. Never got tired of it! Everything, of course, looks so much nicer now! Great video!

⬆Yikes... Commented from the wrong channel (again). ⬆It's all good, 2 likes for the price of one I guess. 😎

Old 151 was an adventure. I've been on part of it that was 2 lanes south of Dodgeville. It's great now and hopefully I get to refilming it in the future.

8:07 oh, it's no big deal even at night when I took it escaping from a girl that used a heroin needle on herself when meeting up with me. Saying that it helped her with her nervousness. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️.
14:50 you don't have a port or something that you can plug it into so it can charge while recording?

Interesting stories. But I just use batteries and plan out the trips. If the battery didn't go out, I would've filmed through the Iowa 3 junction, an extra 30-45 seconds. No biggie.

So wait, US 52 can now be labeled as a N-S highway now as well as an E-W highway? 🤯🤯🤯

    • @TheSolarcatcher

Very good eye! I totally overlooked that. Looks like Iowa and Minnesota label it as north-south, while it returns to east-west in North Dakota and Illinois. So I guess it depends.
