Steam Launch Engine on Test

This is a compound engine, which means that although it has two cylinders (high and low pressure), the steam is only admitted to one of them - the high pressure. When it has done its work there, the exhaust goes to the larger low pressure cylinder and does some more before finally being exhausted. The cylinders on this engine are 2.5" and 4" diameter with a common stroke of 3"". It is big enough to power a 21ft boat.

it's ticking over nicely,, even on air,, it will run even better on steam..
