I really like the game so far. No technical problems or bugs for me. Lore introduction: Watch "Exodus to Elementals - a primer on the clans" by Black Pants Legion (2 TH-cam videos).
Players have been asking for a campaign style game forever since mechwarrior online… so now we get finally get it from piranha…. Got it and played 3 hrs… i like and enjoy it so far… like paying for a movie and game in one… if you are a lifelong mechwarrior or battletech fan, support this game..
This game is showing the clan perspective of the battletech universe, it has a lot of little tidbits of lore that has been established in games, the tabletop game and almost a hundred novels. It's been a blast sofar, I claim it as Isolra
Hellll yeah. That was my intro to this universe, when I was like... 7? Been hooked ever since. There are parts of this game that really felt like a love letter to players like me who have been around since MW2.
oh fudge... that under water mission with the quad PPC loadout and the final mission infiltrating the Jumpship... the latter to this day the mission of all the MW games, that i needed the most try&error runs to complete it... loved every fail and gave my neighbor some concerns after my victory shout ;o)
Im enjoying MW5 clans, its story driven. The mechlab is simplified to a point where casual players wont look up the learning cliff and walk away, but veterans of the franchise can still do a fair amount of customization. I just unlocked the shadowcat (lvl4), available materials for research and upgrade are restrictive enough to make choices matter, but not super restrictive. It does want a beefy GPU but thats kinda normal for mech5 in general, make sure your fan curves are set for gpu cooling.
I’m loving this game. PGI did a fantastic job and will iron out all the bullshit. They poured their heart and soul into this and will do what they have to to make it shine. Great vidi m8
I played a lot of Mercenaries and this looks to be a terrific sequel. Coop is so great in the previous. Looking forward to getting into it here…Great overview Scarlet 🍻
Love the game, haven't checked out the expansion. Sounds like it's a good idea to wait for a few patches. MechWattior Lore is actually a little older then WarHammer 40k, a lot of it stems from BattleTech RPG and book series. Thanks for the review Scarlet.
11:02 when you say high end of triple a pricing, this just be an Aussie dollary doo conversation because I'm the UK it's £42 which is definitely the very low end of AAA games considering most new releases are £60 - £70
Im not 100% sure but I think its a prequel not a sequel. Based on a lot of the mechs Im seeing it looks like its from the Mech Assault Wolfs Dragoons era.
Chronologically, this is a sequel to MW5 Mercenaries and decades before the Mech Assault games. It's takes place just before the Clan Invasion began in 3049 and goes right into it.
Ever since it kept shutting down my xbox I have lost any real interest in continuing playing, did a reinstall and just dont find the story fun enough to go through about not quite half way.
The story line is cool aaaaaand that’s it. the interface in game is far too busy and unnecessary (real time map overview etc is silly, should of just sharpened up MW5Mercs AI and recycled its D pad Hot key use) there’s a lack of depth in replay ability. The weapon and mech load out screen with omni pods etc is just waaaaaay too busy compared to mercenaries. Upgrading the hanger-bay mechanics and science lab is just useless that could have gone in to big fixes and producing a better quality product (looking at you frame rate crashes) Overall extremely disappointed with the product after putting in hundreds of hours and 4 play throughs of it’s predecessor
Yeeaa....as a fan of both since childhood, that's really not true. I love battletech and 40. They both have about the same quantity of lore, and both are quite expensive. WH actually has more source material if you include the warhammer fantasy stuff. WH40K is a little more "adult themed" and edgy just for edginess sake sometimes, which some people can find cringey. That being said, both settings are great fun, and have plenty to offer anyone interested.
40K lore is more expansive due to the longer timeframe. Battletech lore is more detailed thanks to the narrower timeframe. 40K lore is more ridiculous and over the top. Battletech lore is more grounded and realistic(relatively speaking). Which has deeper lore is dependent entirely on how you value these factors. Fun fact: 40K's lore about the timeframe in which Battletech covers is vague enough that it takes only a SMALL amount of fan theorizing to find a way to Battletech fit in 40K canon.
To be fair battletech law mirrors real life a bit and is made to add depth to the universe whilst 40k law is made to force different races to fight so it's as large as the sea but as deep as a puddle with hatred for hatred sake and providing a reason to fight...both are good in their own way but one is made to sell a game (40k) and one is made as the writers just wanted to tell a story and didn't really consider how it would get people to play or buy more merchandise (battletech); as most players just have skirmishes and don't consider law until they've played for a few years :-)
It's nowhere near as complex or deep dude. I love both, but there is no comparing the two in depth or scale. 40k has more everything. It has tons of alien races, all with their own absurd histories, books, Etc. There are probably well over a thousand novels by now.
I didn't care for it. Didn't hate it but playing Mercs with mods is way better to me. They want like 80 dollars for the collectors , that is nutz to me . Oh and the people in the cut scenes look like there is something horribly wrong with them😂
Im enjoying playing through the story somewhat as a long time fan but this game needs ALOT of work the AI is trash. UI is trash… customization is absolute joke compared to Mw5 mercs. I somewhat expected this and bought to support the studio anyway… having some buyers remorse likely will finish the story and not touch the game for months until modders fix this cra If you arent a huge battletech lore fan just wait on this 1. Save ur $50 for now
The problem with this is going to be the DLC spam that comes after. It's already got a very limited roster of Mechs (PGI has already created and run most of the mech models for near a decade at this point) and no doubt they will release the rest of the mech stable in DLCs.
The mechs available to pilot are those used by Clan Smoke Jaguar during the invasion. It's lore accurate not about DLC. That's not to say there won't be more mechs in future DLC.
I finished 1 of 2 endings in 25 hrs on normal dif. After that you can replay missions on the "sim pod" and play mech barbie, but that's it at the moment. I'll be replaying it on the hardest dif next just to do the other ending then wait for the modders to do their thing.
You mean like all games before devs turned them into low effort online grinds loaded with micro transactions? Release game, people complete it. If it sold enough you get an expansion.
I'm having a lot of fun. So far, no bugs and very polished. Two thumbs up for me!
Is there a physical copy out on ps5 ?
Reactors, online
Sensors, online
Weapons - online
All systems nominal

Missed this. ❤
this is what i needed to buy thanks! Last mechwarrior game i played was mechwarrior 2 back in 1995-96ish
Mech2. Or ghost bears legacy ?
Hellll yeah. That was my intro to this universe, when I was like... 7? Been hooked ever since. There are parts of this game that really felt like a love letter to players like me who have been around since MW2.
@@gismo130loved GBL. I'll Never forget that Kodiak coming out of the snow to wreck shit!
Same here. And MW5 Clans gives me the same feeling mw2 did. I love it.

Just dont go wild on your gfx settings. My ancient 2060 6GB could run SM2 and MW5 clans fine.

I am actually frothing at the mouth after the first 2 hours of playing this. Been waiting for a narrative driven mechwarrior game so long. Loving it.
I played a lot of Mercenaries and this looks to be a terrific sequel. Coop is so great in the previous. Looking forward to getting into it here…Great overview Scarlet 🍻
Amazing game Hope they make more clan content!!! Give me Wolf and JADE PLEASE
I'll give it a crack its on gamepass. Love the old school mech warrior games.
Love the game, haven't checked out the expansion. Sounds like it's a good idea to wait for a few patches. MechWattior Lore is actually a little older then WarHammer 40k, a lot of it stems from BattleTech RPG and book series.
Thanks for the review Scarlet.
It is not an expansion. Completely separate game on a new game engine just fyi
Love the story line. Piranha offer best mech games since MW4.
Looks awesome. Can’t wait to play it!

this is a great game
I Love “Mickwarrior”…
The story and the Crazy Smoke Jags Are GREAT some of the best cutscenes in a video game I have seen in sometime! Looking at you freebirth scum!
Come to Battletech, our lore is as deep as 40ks
Please be gentle on the Fleas and try not to hurt them. They're so fragile and sweet.

Are there side missions?
Smoked Jaguar 😂
Um. Not that it matters at all, but the lore in Battletech is far deeper and more complex than 40K. It's huge.

@seanbrazell7095 you do realise battletech has hundreds of book too...the law is older than 40k as it came out a few years earlier too
I didn't care for it. Didn't hate it but playing Mercs with mods is way better to me.

oof, can you turn the cockpit shaking off?
Use 3rd person. Cockpit shaking is immersive imo. I'm assuming you get motion sickness?
Why play MW5 vs MWO?
Totally different games. One is single player with story focus while the other is PvP multiplayer.
I heard its you can complete it in 28 hours and then there's nothing to do. can anyone confirm that? if thats true I would imagine DLC spam incoming.
I finished 1 of 2 endings in 25 hrs on normal dif. After that you can replay missions on the "sim pod" and play mech barbie, but that's it at the moment.
