Also the lance mate AI was absolute trash. It was really best in co-op with actual humans helping you ...then it was good fun. Having said that though, co-op was only fun with MODS which shouldn't need to be the case. Coop players should be able to customise mechs on their own, not only wait for the host to do it all (we got mods to allow this, and to bypass other silly design choices). The functionality of the mods needs to be implemented in the new game
@ACGreviews the death blossom move is called an alpha strike. The arena mech 'legend killer' flipped its mechs arms, and alpha struck the opponent, ending the duel. Awesome victory.

I put in 60 hours just based on the gameplay loop of Mercenaries. Literally all I wanted in addition was a more narrative driven plot, with structured mission objectives helping to push the story along. This sounds like exactly what I wanted from that game.
I once made Achilles in MegaMekLab. The idea was to make a zombie brawler whose weapons were all at torso locations - the arms were there as shields and to punch. I never fielded it in a game, but a mix of lasers and missiles in pummeling range is never a bad call at assault weight. Maybe its real calling is as a Solaris special?
This is the first Clan game in years since MW4: Vengeance. Thank goodness. Mercenaries (Mech Warrior 5) didn't capture the feel from the 90s and the music wasn't that immersive. At least Piranna Games is making a lot of effort into this one.
@@briansmith2739 wait what? MW4 had nothing to do with the clans. in Mech4 mercs you could fight -against- the clans in a few missions but that's about it. in Mech 3 you fought against the clans, but it hasn't been since Mech 2 that you could actually play AS the clanners.
The mechs don't look like they have mass anymore. They seem to accelerate, decelerate, change direction etc without any momentum. It's like they are a person in a shooter game like COD instead of a huge multi-ton vehicle maneuvering across a battlefield. Maybe I'm missing something, but that's what it looks like in the videos.
@@TheOtherCoinflipper That is a light mech, they a a bit more nimble. If you have played mw5 you would see that the bigger mechs still have weight to them.
I know MW5:M had a control setting were you can make the controls more arcade-like. For instance, instead of left turning the legs to rotate the legs left (tank controls) it would just snap into that direction like strafing in a modern FPS. That mode also removed almost all momentum. I think it's called FPS mode or Mech Movement Mode or something like that? @ACG is likely playing with it on. And if it's not a setting and the game is just like that.....ooph indeed.
@@themessy001 Nimble, yes, which is why it has a top speed of 115+. My complaint is that it snaps to negative 80 and below on a dime. I have played MW5, and even the light mechs have a throttle. I got into MWO quite late in its existence, although I have been aware of the Mechwarrior and Battletech franchise for a long time. I dove into the lore eagerly since starting MWO, finding it to be exactly what I like being raised with other dee[ sci-fi franchises. Right off the bat, comparing MC5: Clans to MWO, its great to see well designed human characters full of expression and life. What surprises me about clan Smoke Jaguar in the new game is how sophisticated, "modern". and high-tech they are. Learning most lore from online wikis like Sarna, and watching just a bit of the early 90s Battletech animated series on YT, I assumed they would be much more rugged and barbaric as the animation portrays clan Jade Falcon. The third person perspective is another big surprise. MWO offers it at the expense of losing your battle map. Its almost taboo for some long time players to hear someone uses third person.
Highly, highly recommend BlackPantsLegion's "Tex Talks Battletech" series on youtube where he goes over lots and lots of lore in awesomely narrated videos. In case you haven't hit this part of the lore yet - Clans have better tech than the Inner Sphere. There used to be a "Star League", an alliance between all the great houses of the Inner Sphere, with a Star League Defense Force (SLDF) that had the best mechs and tech to keep the houses in line. After the Amaris Civil War, there was no clear next leader for the Star League which led to conflict and eventually the SLDF Commander (Aleksandr Kerensky) decided to leave the Inner Sphere and take his followers with him. They became the Clans, while the Inner Sphere continued warring between houses which led to declining technology and knowledge about that technology. The Clans eventually returned, with some wishing to conquer the Inner Sphere and some wanting to protect them.
@@AlexDenton0451 And in MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries - on the contrary, when playing in first person the sight shakes when the mech moves, but in third person - it doesn't :)
I play mostly first person because these games immerse me so much I wouldn't dare fight any other way, but sometimes when your just moving from place to place you just gotta go third person and admire these beautiful machines your bringing total destruction with.
My favorite mech of any design across any franchise has always been the Timber Wolf (Mad Cat), and I haven't been hyped for any game in years but this definitely has me for its inclusion alone.
Timby is a good mech. However I fell in love with the Vulture/ Mad Dog MK II ( also III, IV ) because of the chin hardpoints ( turret function or not ) thanks to the MW4 Vengeance intro. So badass! Good design too. Sure 15 tons lighter but its for a different role like a hunting wolf or a scavenging vulture. Let the enemy be tired then barrage them into the dirt!
@@Ganimal83 There are preview videos about some of the characters, and that particular character is basically a renegade who intentionally speaks in contractions to be a smartass, and Jayden, the Star Commander, calls him out on it.

Mechwarrior 5 would not be the game it is without YAML. Sad but true. YAML made that game SO much better. Im thinking it looks like they maybe took a few pages out of cszolee79 and truegs mod and put it into their game. It would be the smart thing to do. Mechwarrior games have typically released in pairs: 1 game being focused on the singleplayer narrative campaign, and a companion "Mercenaries" game that's focused on freeform missions. Mechwarrior 5 will pretty much be your open mission game for a long while.
@@StrikeNoir105E it only happened in 2 and 4. No garantee it will be a standard. If they do so, they need to add official clan mechs and tech to mercenaries.

I mean, Lore-wise... The Clans were basically _playing Dynasty Warriors_ the first few weeks they arrived in the I.S. until the Dragoons and Comguards showed up,
They got their ass handed to them at Twycross and Wolcott by the FedCom and Dracs respectively. The Clan Invasion was doomed to failure the instant their momentum slowed.
What I want to know in terms of mech customization is if I'll be able to make a Timber Wolf in the Pryde configuration, that is to say: The primary long range weapons are a pair of ER Large Lasers which are backed up by a pair of LRM-20s for long range combat. For close combat, two ER Medium Lasers are carried as well as an ER Small Laser. The Pryde Configuration also mounts four jump jets, making it highly maneuverable. I just went back to playing MechWarrior 5 after getting bored of it but I congratulate this series or specifically MechWarrior 5 for consistently updating their game with new content and accessibility options. MechWarrior 5 is definitely for the hardcore MechWarrior fans they implemented multiple difficulty options and still add content to the game to this day makes me really want to try out any other MechWarrior game that comes to existence in the future. The way I set up my game it's challenging but some of the fluff has been trimmed down and I kept the difficulty of controlling my team but made it less time-consuming. Customization is also great and the long-term hunting for loot keeps the game engaging. This new update they added added a lot of new features to the game that I personally wanted and hearing that they're making something entirely new with new features and optimizations I fully support them😊
I love MW5 but my biggest gripes are A) so much walking slowly between objectives, and B) nothing you ever do has any impact on the world, so after a while it feels like you're just doing the same thing again and again for no reason.

MechAssault is a spin off of mechwarrior developed after Microsoft got ahold of the IP. MechAssault is the action shooter version of the Heavy Simulation shooter that is Mechwarrior.
@@Daniel_Fritz heh. Reading that reminded me, it would be pretty interesting if they once again dipped into the top-down isometric, arcade action of _Mechwarrior 3050._ Would be cool to encounter a freeform game of that. Just like MW5M, traveling across the inner sphere, getting into procedurally generated planets and missions. But they could also expand on bringing in more mech options, drivable vehicles, and take pointers to the likes of _Nuclear Strike_ and _Seek and Destroy_ games to integrate better gameplay and smoother control scheme... ...oh well, reinstalling _Brigador._
MechWarrior is completely different, basically bigger tanks with legs and scifi weapons. There's no dodge button, you need to use cover and torso twist to spread damage or protect certain weapons, damage is applied to different parts of the 'body', etc. To be clear, I love both, but they scratch different itches.
Tanks with legs is a simptom of the fact that the controls for the videogames were limited and most people didn't play with the more advanced rules in Battletech, with the advanced rules and the earlier novels, mechs are more maneuverable along the lines of a human, Omnimechs (1st Line Clan mechs) are for the most part dedicated dueling platforms not the old multipurpose humanoid (mostly) Battlemechs used by the Innersphere.
@@screenmonkey Indeed, in old BT lore mechs did move more akin to anime mecha, which is likely because Battletech was heavily inspired by the various mecha anime coming out in the late 70's and early 80's, made more obvious by how a lot of the classic designs like the Marauder, Shadowhawk, Warhammer etc., were licensed designs from various anime like Macross. Mechwarrior though sadly cemented the "walking tank" portrayal of Battlemechs, and by the time technology caught up people have been exposed to walking tanks for so long that it has become the default image of battlemechs for many.

As one of the developers for MechWarrior living legends and the main lead for MechWarrior living legends 2 we've had a lot of history with piranha games both good and bad. I'm really hoping that they do MechWarrior clans justice as MechWarrior 5 was a rather mid title. Another point of contention for us was the rather limited tools provided to us in the mod editor which really hampered progress for this project. The map being obscured is actually pretty cool. It makes sense that the only recon you could do would be from an orbiting craft or satellite so you’d get an overhead view of the landscape, but you’d have to do your own recon to see specifics. Pretty cool concept

It looks visually cooler than ever in effects and graphics. But the speed of the mechs seems too fast. Like there's no real momentum to any of these walking behemoths. Every is instantly at full walking speed and can instantly change direction. It looks like it's skirting the line of being another "mech game" that is really just a giant robot skin over normal fps movement. The faster all these multi-ton giant robots move the less and less sim and more ordinary shooter with a mech skin the game becomes. Also is there no collision or friendly-fire between mechs on same side? I really like the set up for this game of starting out as a newbie. But it's a big turn off if they're FPS casualizing the game's movement and tactical elements (no collision?) that make it actually feel like you're piloting a giant death robot made of tons of steel.
@@whatisbestinlife8112 I noticed the same thing. Physics for these huge machines seems intent on making them seem very light. I noticed especially with explosions that all of a sudden there is no weight to the components that or mech. Something seemed off and I think you just found it.

Assaults can still do 60 even at 100 tons. Clan Lights do nearly 200. They're better armed, lighter, faster, tougher... It's just unfair.
@@chief5861 I guess it could be the planets low gravity causing the bouncy toy like affect? It kinda looks like the mechs also have very little traction a lot of the time. I mean it’s always been somewhat of a problem with the newer mech games. Could be rose tinted glasses.

But there are some fansites that could point you to acquiring that title, if you're up for some ancient game spelunking. And yeah, there's a turn-based strategy game set on the same universe called BattleTech.
You know, I'm gonna buy this no matter what, I've been with this series for decades... But I've gotta complain about the upgrades system. Back in the day, if you decided to take a Fafnir, you accepted that you were gonna be ridiculously slow. You did NOT spend dozens of increments of a non-existent "experience" resource, to magically make the fattest assault mech available faster, somehow. Looking at that massive spread of 100 different categories of "experience" my eyes just glaze over. We didn't NEED all of this crap in Mechwarrior. Whether or not you care about the immersion, it's just busywork, for the tiniest 3% advantage at a time. I really do not like the idea.
I don't mind the lots of little tweaks to make improvements, but making it so that a 100 tonner isn't plodding along or that a light can take an alpha to the center from an assault is a bit too far. One of the things about Battletech/Mechwarrior that made it work is despite the physics bending of 'mechs being even remotely useful, there was at least nods towards physic limits.
Ha! That's funny. Their money is called Kerenskies. Hahahaha. Holy shit. I don't have a clue what their currency SHOULD be lore wise. i grew up with this franchise. remember playing mechwarriors in the late 90s in my first times gaming in PC. one of the 2 PC games besides the "freespace" made me alternate between PC and playstation back in the day. which the part that carved an impression in me that "PC games are realistic" and "simulation" oriented. (though thats no longer relevant these days.)
My first foray into BT was via the computer games, and while I played the Crescent Hawks game, the one that really drew me in was MW2 with the Falcons and the Wolves. It's been a while since I was excited for a BT video game, but this one looks cool. Although I've never been a huge fan of the Jaguars. I wonder if there will be expansions that let you play different characters and factions.
I hope the campaign is nice and long and ends with the jaguar kids being destroyed at turkayyid. A good futile last stand mission is always a fun way to end a war story.
This looks like it improves on everything that felt "lacking" in MW5: graphics, your own bespoke adventurer and just tightness of the presentation. Hopefully the focus on narrative doesn't mean there won't be a freer "Clan Mode" or something to drive long term playability.
It would be fun to have missions that are batchals. There is a science team that's really top notch, but other clan stars want them too, so instead of paying, there would be a 1v1 duel and winner takes the team.
A+ robot jox reference. That was the movie my friends and I would come home from school and just watch well smoking things. I've probably seen it like a 100 times. I'm sure I wasn't the only one who freaked out at the clan related mission in battletech from a few years ago, shame it looks like we're never getting a follow up to that
Sounds like a fantastic upgrade to the franchise, and huge fun. I'll just have to try really hard to not let the fact that 9 out of 10 Invading Clans were utter cunts, ruin my vibe.

Friend of mine just pointed that out to me, especially at 4:25 just as he jumps onto the rocks. That's really concerning.
There's no acceleration, no weight, no inertia, -- Hold the phone that's a 40-Ton 'Mech. I could see forgiving it on something that was 20-Ton, but that's no longer 'light,' sorry. (stupid markdown.)
@@Slayer119988 Clans are supposed to be higher tech. The "barbaric" aspect is open to interpretation.
Additionally in MWO it screws up your aim since you still are aiming from the cockpit, causing your aim to jump around in view.

But they could also expand on bringing in more mech options, drivable vehicles, and take pointers to the likes of _Nuclear Strike_ and _Seek and Destroy_ games to integrate better gameplay and smoother control scheme...
...oh well, reinstalling _Brigador._
This isnt much different then mechwarrior 4 that came out in 2001.
Looks a lot more methodical than the chaos of Armored Core, might check this out
MechWarrior is completely different, basically bigger tanks with legs and scifi weapons.
_"Looks a lot more methodical than the chaos of Armored Core..."_

The amount of light mechs, mediums mechs, choppers, and combat vehicles the game suddenly, and happily threw at me...I'll just say, MW5 have it's own brand of crazy whenever it feels like it(the fun of procedurally generated missions).
But yeah, since Clans' missions are apparently, more handcrafted, maybe the battles here will be more considerate.
Chaos? Lol

YAML, coyotes mission mod, and vonbiomes are really the only things that kept me playing mw5 mercs for as long as i have. things always felt fresh with those

Good old ragdolling. Gets me a laugh every time. :D
Waiting for that game a long time now.
Ah, Battletech - the WH40K for real adults.
Big robot blast stuff 😊
Take my money
Ha! That's funny. Their money is called Kerenskies. Hahahaha. Holy shit. I don't have a clue what their currency SHOULD be lore wise. I don't know much about the Smoke Jaguars, I'm more of a Jade Falcon fan. But I know damn well who Nicholas Kerensky is. I own 13 or so books. And that lore pull is fucking hilarious. Good shit man.
Heat can, in dire situations, shut down the mech.
Oh dear Sir, have you ever heard of an alpha strike on a Supernova?
ahh the deathblossom special... that was a great movie when I was younger :D
i grew up with this franchise. remember playing mechwarriors in the late 90s in my first times gaming in PC. one of the 2 PC games besides the "freespace" made me alternate between PC and playstation back in the day.
which the part that carved an impression in me that "PC games are realistic" and "simulation" oriented. (though thats no longer relevant these days.)
This looks great. I loved to play Mechwarrior 2 and MW2 Mercenaries back in the day. I will probably pick this one up.
Man, I used to love MW3 as a kid, I'm so ready for this to be good. Here's hoping.
nice.. the zoomout looks like MECHCOMMANDER.. hope they make a MOD
Thanks for the video
I have been waiting to play the Invasion as a clanner for over 20 years at this point. I am very excited to give this a try.
I hope the campaign is nice and long and ends with the jaguar kids being destroyed at turkayyid. A good futile last stand mission is always a fun way to end a war story.
Third person action game?!
Y'all got me ALL messed up.
Wicked video though, I'm stoked for the update!
The contractions thing about the Clans is done on purpose. It's canon, and that's how it's supposed to be.
Yess, been waiting for a mech game like this 👌
"Snipping their weaponary nuts right off" has to be my new favorite MW line 🤣
A+ robot jox reference. That was the movie my friends and I would come home from school and just watch well smoking things. I've probably seen it like a 100 times.
I'm sure I wasn't the only one who freaked out at the clan related mission in battletech from a few years ago, shame it looks like we're never getting a follow up to that
Sweet, I've been looking for a reason to come back to the game.
Sounds like a fantastic upgrade to the franchise, and huge fun. I'll just have to try really hard to not let the fact that 9 out of 10 Invading Clans were utter cunts, ruin my vibe.
