This song describes how people facing death, natural or by execution, experience all the stages of personal grief. It perfectly shows the emotions felt from denial, to anger, bargaining, depression, and then acceptance. Superb writing.

    👏A timeless masterpiece!
The talent and skill level of Freddie Mercury, Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon was astounding and they always gave 1,000% on stage with no Auto Tune or Pitch Correction.
They had so many mega hit songs over the years. Many such as "We Are The Champions" and "We Will Rock You" are still sung today by huge crowds at sports events around the world!
    Rock🤘😎

I'm 33. My dad played queen alot and other 80s music. I always loved bohemian rhapsody. I'm happy to see u enjoyed what music I did as a kid who was raised by 70s/80s kids/parents. The most incredible part is they made that song without a ton of the equipment voice stuff today. They recorded over n over again their own music to get the musical affects. They were ahead of their time in music. ❤

    LOVED your reaction!
The LIVE version of this song is STUPENDOUS…
(It is minus Freddie Mercury’s five-part a capella harmonies at the beginning, but otherwise I actually PREFER - as with everything - seeing Freddie perform this live because his vocals are even BETTER than in-studio!)
To hear it live, you should see it at MONTREAL in 1981
    Freddie ‘s songwriting was GENIUS.
He also wrote and recorded an album of OPERA with Spanish operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé (her nickname is Montsey); the album and title track are titled Barcelona.
(Freddie & Montserrat were actually the FIRST professional musicians from two different music genres, to ever collaborate on a cross-genre album together. Pavarotti initially called their collaboration “The dumbing down of opera”. But then when the album was so well-received… Pavarotti was soon doing his own “Pavarotti and Friends” project!)😉

Your journey down the Queen path cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody. In fact, your journey into great MUSIC of the past cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody!
Bohemian Rhapsody, was released in 1975 on the album "A Night at the Opera" which gives a hint as to the musical genre. Freddie Mercury was a huge fan of opera so this song was written as an operatic suite consisting of five distinct parts: an acapella intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock section, and a reflective coda. Generally it is classified as rock-and-roll, but specifically as a "rock opera" and "progressive rock." Truth is, labeling any Queen song, or Queen the band, is next to impossible!
"Bohemian" describes an unconventional, artistic style with freedom and individuality as key elements. "Rhapsody" in musical composition refers to a single work comprised of episodic, diverse pieces arranged into a free-flowing structure designed to heighten emotions. This song came to be because Freddie had pieces of songs he never completed, so he put them together, each section totally different yet masterfully blended into a truly epic masterpiece. It is the band's magnum opus, and is unanimously considered one of the best songs ever written.
As for the meaning of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie was purposefully vague. As with most of the greatest songs, the lyrics are written to be poetic and mysterious. Are they literal or figurative? As separate pieces initially, should the song have a singular meaning? Who knows! The meaning is open to interpretation for each listener to decide, based on how the music and lyrics touched them. You will read comments claiming the song's meaning, but the fact is, the entire band has never stating a specific meaning and has been firm that there isn't one, or if Freddie DID have a specific interpretation, he never shared it. Any assertion of the meaning pertaining to Freddie's sexuality are speculative and pushed by certain groups who WANT that to be the meaning. Those people insist one’s sexual preference is the only defining factor to everything one does in life, and therefore Freddie’s artistic talent is secondary and subjective to who he found attractive. This is ludicrous and insulting to one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time.

🇸🇪 here. Don't forget that all Queen did was long before autotune, digital samples and all other digital fix-it gizmos of today. The post production then was very limited and primitive compared to how recording studios work today. Just lots and lots of musicality and great musicians in this band.
Besides Freddie, both Roger and Brian sing on most of the songs Queen did.
Roger usually sings the countertenor parts and Brian is more in the baritone register.
Roger also has the rather unique ability to be able to drum and sing at the same time.
For example, check out the section in this video where Freddie and Roger counter-sing "Galileo-Galileo" in the operatic part and you will hear which register Roger can reach.
He also has his very own rock voice, listen for example to "I'm in love with my car" from the same album where Roger sings lead.
All the members of Queen were multi-instrumentalists in addition to very talented singers and also competent in other ares.
For example: in addition to being the bassist, John Deacon was the band's electronic wizard. Among other things he built a guitar amplifier (the Deacy-amp) for the guitarrist Brian May, the unique sound of which to date no one have been able to completely replicate, despite several attempts by various builders of musical equipment. It was used extensively throughout the band's tenure and is still owned and used by May.
The guitar Brian mainly uses (called "the Red Special or ”the old lady”) was built by himself (when he was 14!) and his father because he couldn't afford a quality guitar when he wanted to take his guitar playing seriously in his early teens.
It hides a lot of unique features, such as the ability to phase reverse each pickup separately and also turn on/off, set volume and other things separately. He (Brian) also holds a Ph.D. in astrophysics 😲🫢
I promise you have an exciting journey ahead of you.

Sadly enough, we never get to find out about the man that Freddie killed or why he killed him, since he'd rather sing about himself and his own personal problems. It almost reminded me of Johnny Cash's song, "Folsom Prison Blues" where the singer kills a man but tells us why: "Just to watch him die". But the killer is also remorseful: "I hang my head and cry". Cash's killer at least goes to Prison, whereas Freddie's killer doesn't seem to face any obvious consequences or even much remorse since "Nothing really matters". Though the song implies that he might face the death penalty ("I don't want to die!"). Yes, I'm sure the man that you killed also "didn't want to die" either! And I'm sure his surviving family thinks that his murder still matters to them.

We do not know what the whole song is about, it took years to produce and record- it is in parts. What we do know it is left to interpretation and is epic- that is what makes it last the test of time (when I was a Kid this was number one playing on the radio for so many weeks and I thought it was about a prisoner in America going on death row and I was 8 or something at the time). I know now the first part has to do with Freddie's sexuality being bi and he was not being dedicated enough to his music and the band- (the part about putting a gun against his head). Like I said this took years.

Bohemian Rhapsody came out in 1975, Freddie was diagnosed with HIV in 1987, so the disease had nothing to do with the song at all and vice versa. But yes there is the opinion about the first lines that he killed his old self and coming to terms with his sexuality.

As for the part about killing a man, while Freddie NEVER gave a definitive interpretation to Bohemian Rhapsody as a whole, that segment was his "cowboy song" (his words) because it was intended to be a song about an outlaw, or something similar, but was never finished.
As for Freddie not being dedicated to his music or the band Queen, I am seriously floored anyone has ever asserted this! Few bands ever in existence have been as talented and dedicated to their music AND each other than Queen. This was true up to the day Freddie died (and still to this day with the surviving members), but especially true in 1975 when they were in the beginning years of their collaboration.

As I understand it the reference to Mama just killed a man " was describing his mother's refusal that he was now a gay man and this references the now-common practice called "dead-naming"...it's a bigger deal to the pronoun crowd

Please experience Queen at "Live Aid 1985". It is undoubtedly in the top 10 Live Music Performances of all time ①
Then, maybe, react to, IMO, the best Queen cover: _Queen & George Michael - Somebody To Love (Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert)_ th-cam.com/video/oYAR8RigqDA/w-d-xo.html Though you might feel George Michael cheated hugely. I watched live. George Michael was stunning.
    Best Wishes. ☮
① People will disagree about which Live Music Performance is the best of all time. However, I think a majority of music lovers old enough to hear it live will put Queen "Live Aid 1985" in the top 10.

The music may be stereo to you but it’s mono to us. Sounds very flat. Fix it and I’ll re-subscribe. Good bye until then!
