- Best way to frame a canvas is with a floating frame. This was made with reclaimed cedar that was about 85 years old.

I don't know what was more ingenious, the masking tape to glue it together, the brackets to make sure it was exactly 45 degrees or the scraper wrapped in sandpaper to sand in small places. The frame was beautiful. Your workmanship is unbelievable. Such a great job.
Thanks very much mate, feedback like yours makes it all worthwhile.
This was the best (by far) tutorial I've ever seen for making a floating frame. I will be referring to it a lot as I create my frames. Thank you very much for this!
Thank you very much Michelle. Glad it was helpful.
Vic, the cook has been wanting this done to one of our paintings for ages....great tutotial! Love the tip re the sandpaper on the scraper as well. Cheers mate 👍🇦🇺🇦🇺😁
No worries Shane. Thanks mate. I think some good advice would be to keep the cook happy. I can see you making one using old fence palings.
DownUnderWoodWorks You read my mind mate...old fence palings it is 👌☺️

Beautiful frame and love the fact that it is re-purposed wood with a back story. And that tip about using shrink wrap over the wire..brilliant. I'll be using that. Thanks!
Thanks very much, glad you got something from it.

Thank you Julian. The black background is needed really to enhance the shadow effect.
Wow that canvas really pops with that frame, I love it. When you first showed the canvas it looked very flat and lifeless, but the frame really made it come alive. Very nicely done !!
Yeah Les, I have to agree with you totally. The artist loved it too. Cheers mate.
Love the sandpaper on the scraper and heat shrink tips. Great looking frame!

Very good video! This was just what I needed to do my next project. I appreciate the step by step detail you provide in your videos, and I always learn a new technique or two to make my life easier. I'm also working on how to speak metric as a second language since we have not yet progressed that far in the USA. Thanks much and keep 'em coming.

Nice job. I picked up a couple of great tips. Sandpaper on a putty knife is genius plus the shrink to make the cable tidy. Thanks for the video!
Thanks Scott, my pleasure.
I LOVE watching you work: you're such a fantastic wood-worker, I like how you took the time to create the most BEAUTIFUL frame that perfectly complements the painting. I'm english so I also love your accent! I'm very envious of your tools & gadgets but I wouldn't know or be able to do what you do anyway! Thank you for putting this up and for showing us how you do it. Best wishes from France.
Wow Jenny, thank you so much for the wonderful words of support. Best wishes to you too from Sydney, Australia.
That scraper sandpaper tip is great!
Thanks mate, glad you liked it
Great video!! I especially like the shrink tubing idea. That gives a really nice final touch of quality. Well done.
Thanks very much Dave, glad you liked it
I just did a floating frame similar to the one you made but I didn't have a black reveal. That is what I loved about the frame you put together here. I have about 6 more frames to make and I will make them all with the black reveal you showed in this video. Thanks for the tip. Great work by the way.
Thanks very much and I'm glad you got something from the video
Really Excellent. Your attention to detail is exceptional.
Thank you very much Shelley
The end result is perfect, exactly what that painting needed!
Thanks very much Mario, good to hear from you. What have you been up to?
@@DownUnderWoodWorks I've really pulled back my time in the workshop the last couple of years, focusing on work a lot more instead.
Was a bit of a sacrifice, but now I've managed to get myself to a point where I can start enjoying my days off, and importantly can now spend a little bit of coin on tools, instead of always just making do. I wasn't enjoying trying to make sandpaper last longer among other things lol.
I don't know if I'll get back into making videos, but I'm enjoying just watching them again at least!
@@woodfather All the best mate, whatever you choose to do.
Great tutorial. I have a large painting hanging up unframed for the past 25 years. So I now know what to do with it. Out with the table saw.
Sounds good Jeremy. Glad the video was helpful!
Excellent video. Instructions were clear and concise.
Thank you. Glad it was helpful.
Wow! What a fantastic frame. You are a master, and some excellent tips. Great video.

Thank you Terence
Thanks for the video. It was the best and most concise of many that I watched.
Thanks very much Al, glad it was helpful!
Very instructional with more than a few great tips, like the aforementioned use of the scraper for sanding and for glue clean-up. The section with the high speed filming of the table-sawing was a little scary to watch, though, even knowing it was not at normal speed.
Ha, all good here Tom. Glad to hear the video was helpful.
So many clever tricks. Your videos never disappoint. Kudos once again!
Thank you Marco, glad you liked it.
