I agree with you on the shortness of the seats and yet I think back to the peak of my business class travel about ten years ago and none of the seats at the time had much in the way of privacy. Gives me a good sense of how the industry has evolved in a relatively short time!
Kevin, excellent review! Qatar’s food is really wonderful and the way they take care esp on the Asian leg, is mind blowing! They consider flyers like guests or family members - so much caring and attention to details. But what I also wanted to mention, is the soundtrack you chose: “Against All Odds” is so perfect with the scene flying over the clouds and before landing, and throughout the clip.. love it ❤
Qatar service is exceptional but the equipment changes are unacceptable (booking q suite and getting the old 777 especially) so I now stick with Emirates. You know exactly what you'll get on a380 business routes. Love your videos.
Why are you so sure that Emirates will not change an aircraft? The opposite is true, they often change from the A380 to the 777 and then you get the worst Business Class in the world, a 2-3-2 configuration with angled flat seats, horrible!
Totally agree - I’ve been Qatar equipment switched so many times it’s ridiculous so I’m not playing that roulette game anymore especially when Ive found a fare that requires an additional payment for a Qsuite and then NEVER a refund for a non Qsuite !!!!!
I really enjoy how snappy and concise your videos are; alongside the avoidance of clickbaity headlines. Side note - me and my colleagues just flew Gulf Air to and from BKK and Bahrain. Some variance in quality (my colleagues on the other side of the aisle had a pretty surly flight attendant, but I had a very pleasant experience both ways ) , but overall very nice and comfortable

Loved the DOH graphics with water surrounding it, gives an realistic and immersive feel. Loved the landing views, Suvarnabhumi means golden land quite fits the name. And Lots of Love Kevin, have a great trip ahead.

Hi Kevin. Another fabulous video apart from the rather abrupt ending. Must be TH-cam running out of coins for the electricity meters😂😂. I have only ever flown an A380 with Emirates and although they are undoubtedly brilliant aeroplanes, I find that with so many passengers in business class they tend to be a touch impersonal. Keep up with the great work. I always look forward to Thursdays and Saturdays.❤😊

Oh, how much I would like to fly on this Albatros! Unfortunately so far it never matched my destinations and/or travel dates. Who knows next year when I’ll be flying Bali New York, it will be served with an A380 on whatever airline… Will be following Qatar closely with the new CEO Badr Mohammed Al-Meer to see which direction he will take QR. Quite shocked still how unceremoniously Al Baker was disposed of, after having been so revered for so long. Guess at some point his intimidating glare was not enough to stay in power after having created so much polarisation within and outside the company. Yeah I think the new CEO is likely going to steer the company in a pretty different direction. I wouldn't be surprised to see these A380s around for quite a while and maybe even a new First Class product... QSuites are good, but they certainly aren't First! haha. Thanks as always for watching 🙏

Over the years I’ve watched lots of content from various sources won’t mention then but you know, and this by far exceeds ‘em all. The reason for so many Finn air aircraft at Doha is that post covid they have been operating on codeshare QR flights from Oslo Copenhagen and Stockholm which previously utilised QR aircraft

I took that flight in march 2023. It was one of the nicest I had.... For the privacy, my seat wasn't in the upright position... it lowers a bit the point of view.

Your videos are already beautiful, but they could be even better if uploaded in HDR. The iPhone's video recording capabilities are excellent, and I recommend making the most of them.
I do record at 4k 60, but until the vast majority of creators start uploading in 60fps, then it's just not worth the added hassle when editing. It'll happen eventually though, but by then iPhones might be 8K haha
What is sad is that you can’t have the same soft product in two different flight… and I am not talking on aircraft changes… I never had that feeling on ANA, SQ, Lufthansa where the soft and hard product was always the same
I love the A380 - I hope Qatar improve the seats so there is more privacy, doesn’t have to be QSuites, just slightly more separation between passengers
As a fan of QSuite, I sincerely feel bad about the sit on their A380. I am not sure if their dreamliners are fitted with the QSuite or a version of it. But I am glad you had a better experience on this leg as opposed to the previous experience of yours. A quick nit pick, am a fan of QR as opposed to EK Business class but the lounge/bar on the EK A380 is more fun than QR Bar (seemingly as I have not been on the QR A380). As an avid watcher and follower of your videos, it would be great if you could review BA and Finnair Business class. I am booked for BA Club World on their 777 (BLR-LHR) and Finnair A350 Business class (HEL-LHR) in April 2024 (I know way in the future that it) and would be great to know your thoughts on either or both of those classes.

great video. im flying doh-bkk in a few months on an a380 and discovered the business price and first class price was the same cost in Avios!! i was so shocked...i obviously booked first class and it went through!! 95k Avios + the 200 in taxes! super excited.. but as im watching your video it looks like as you walked by the "first class" rows, the seats are exactly the same! is there any difference between the two?
For 95k I hope you're flying more than just the single leg... And yes, I had the same booked- US to Bangkok via DOH with the one leg in First. The First Class seats are not anything like the business class seats, so I think you may be looking at the wrong bit. I'd google it so you can see.

Yes and no. At the time the COO was the "Acting" COO who wanted to 'keep me updated' and have a "monthly chat"... He mentioned big changes that he was "excited to tell me about in detail" that should have been out many months ago... safe to say, I haven't heard of any changes at all and GF hasn't contacted me since the last update in the pinned comment in March I believe. So, I assume that COO is no longer there, which means... I don't know how many 'security/immigration issues' I may have if I passed through the airport.
I do have a soft spot for the pre-Qsuite biz product, but the A380's seem more exposed than in the 787 or a350 which makes no sense! Have you ever used the ultra cheap 5 star hotel layover service with Qatar?

I too have 2 segments on UL schedueld for next year- also not for status and booked long before the flyertalk forums went crazy about their cheap fares haha. And no worries, if I'm honest, there are very few creators who can keep me for a full video 😅
As someone who has flown all of the gulf carriers in Business it is clear that Qatar wants to define itself as a mass market airline. Yes the Q Suite is fantastic but it isn’t first class quality and neither is the service, and the rest of their business class is an average hard product (seat / plane) with hit and miss soft product (service). Economy is terrible and they dont even offer a premium economy. Economy long haul is only ever good on an A380 which as Kevin says QR does not like. The fact they own 25% of IAG and plan to float (become a publicly listed company) is the driver for these decisions.
love the video but not the product ... surprised at how low the partitions are as if NOT much thought if any is given to the set up - and or QATAR that is quite dissapointing . Blanket looks worn as well and headsets & bathroom on the dirty side.

Firing all the crew and banning Josh Cahill from the airline is somewhat draconian. For an airline that is supposed to be a 1st class leading the airways. It is very bad publicity. As I said I worked in all for 25 years in the airline biz. And the working conditions in the UAE for crew is awful.
If you watch his video carefully, his “the whole crew was fired” comment is pure speculation based on a comment on TH-cam from god knows who saying it might happen. He even admits he didn’t know if they were actually fired before near instantly insisting they had been fired. Not to mention if he received an email before his flight that his itinerary was cancelled and he was banned- why show up to the airport and try to check in and be ‘surprised’ you’d need to rent a Maserati at 04:00 to drive to DXB and then pretend like Emirates ‘saved you’. Very sloppy and misleading at best.
Flip flop and short on business class??? Did you have a tank top too??? Please dress better next time. Not formal but smart casual. Business class passengers are definitely not used to be like before.
Finnair is currently operating flights for QR, for instance to Stockholm Arlanda and Helsinki, due to the A350 paint-issue. Oneworld partnership done right. Finnair is also operating flights for Qantas. The closing of Russian airspace really put a hold on Finnair's operations to asia, one of its most important markets.
One bit of advice, if you have not been given yet. Never wear flip flops when flying. If an emergency evacuation is required, flip flops will easily come off & therefore expose feet to potential injury from aircraft debris, rough ground or a hot runway surface. Light shoes or trainers are recommended.
I appreciate that this is the first genuine advise I've ever had on the channel about not wearing flip flops as opposed to the typical "you should be wearing a tuxedo in business class" comments. So, thanks for that!
this business class seats locks an old or early versions of Super Diamond seat and also can found on 787-8, the newer seat have a high shells, or even having a doors for full privacy, i don't think qatar will retrofit an A380s to have Qsuite at least if new CEO have another idea for A380
I am not a person who says things are 'free' when it comes to these trips. You are playing thousands for a ticket, so of course food and drink will be included in price. You pay, always. :)
I specifically say they are free becuase if I don't say that, then I will get multiple comments per video saying "YOU NEED TO PAY THE RED PRICES FOR THE WINE ON BOARD?!" 😅
Looking at your Qatar Airways flight and crewise this one will have a local Qatari and Thai flight attendant. On the other hand flights going towards MNL DVO CEB CRK always have a Filipino Qatar Airways flight attendant. To me the Qatar Airways A380 Rockwell Collins Super Diamond seat seems to be equal to their Oneworld Alliance Partner CX/AA Safran Cirrus seats and Skyteam Alliance KE Collins Aerospace Serenity/ BE MiniPod seat and beat out a PR Mabuhay Class Thompson Vantage XL seat. Towards the Philippines this seat is seen on Doha to Clark Cebu and Davao routes leaving MNL to have the Q suite which is a Safran Fusio seat. Flying economy class on Qatar A380 websites suggests taking Upper deck due to it being a 2-4-2 like an A330-941 due to the lower deck being 3-4-3 seen on B777 B747 and selected A350s economy class.
Might not be the first or last to say this , but as I understand it, there’s a lot of Finnair planes at Doha due to the majority of countries no longer flying in Russian airspace.. as Finnair’s routes to most parts of Asia would overfly parts of Russia , they’ve had to cancel some routes etc .. when QR were angry at Airbus for quite a while , they ended borrowing a number of Finnair’s ‘extra’ planes - most likely their A350’s , and that was that .. I’m also guessing that some Finnair flights to Asia are going via Doha maybe ? Finally , it’s a real shame about those exposed seats on the QR A380. Maybe a bit of an oversight, I think. Or the final decision made by someone who’s not really very tall ? 😮 Great review, as always .. thanks Kevin… 🙏
I'm hoping to take this flight as part of a CAI-BKK leg of a trip in a yearish. If F is available to book with AA miles I'll opt for that but this looks great too. Do you know if you get access to the Al Safwa lounge if your arrival flight is a regional F but your departure is long haul J?
Yes, all F- region or long haul, arriving or departing- tickets include Al Safwa. That’s apparently the reason why region F exists at all at QR, as a way to attract wealthy regional business to connect in DOH vs DXB or AUH by giving first class lounge access.
I’m flying this route in January on one of the Virgin Australia 777’s that Qatar has. I’ve been trying to switch to First on the A380 for months, fingers crossed.
I had to delve into my photo files to see the last time I was in Thailand, and its been a while. The last time I traveled through Suvarnabhumi in 2017, construction had just started on the new satellite terminal. Its mind blowing that it only opened a few months ago.
Doing the return flight of this route in First Class in 2 days time. Cant wait and a first for me. Totally agree with your comment on the QR 388/788 seats. No wonder those seats haven’t been installed on newer aircraft. Great video as ever!

You were a couple long before the flight and you’ll be one long after… the views are only there once though. Get two window seats and enjoy yourself. Regardless of the configuration, this is my advice lol.
These days it’s a standard redemption from US East to Southeast Asia, 87k-110k being the normal range. Qatar typically charges absurd cash fares ex. JFK, especially one way (~$6000+) so in that regard, 95k points is a steal lol.

Nope, I mean everything is free. As in, the prices that I added to the menu aren’t chargeable. I used to get lots of silly comments asking if you had to pay for wine on board since I add the retail prices. I suppose now that I clarify it, I still get silly comments.
Qatar airlines is proving to be very disappointing and not being able to accept some positive feedback from Josh Cahill, and in retaliation to some constructive feedback, they fire all the crew and they banned Josh from ever flying with them again. What type of people are these I wouldn’t recommend this airline to anyone, the way they treat their staff it’s disgusting
All I can do is comment on my own experiences. Josh is free to make videos about his. If and when I ever had a horrible experience with QR, I wouldn't hesitate to put them on blast like I have with multiple other airlines, but- that simply hasn't been the case for my flights. Thanks for watching 🩴
I'd take that pre-packaged welcome toilette any time. Why? The regular, moistened toilettes tend not to be heated enough to kill any bacteria they may have picked up prior to being handed via tongs to you. I've flown hundreds of long haul flight and NEVER wiped my face with them, and maybe not even my hands, depending on what they've handled since last washing them.
@@tfft They're not dry. That's the problem. I also never drink anything on a plane that didn't come from a bottle. No coffee or tea or glass of water from a pitcher. I've been behind the scenes, and seen enough to put me off. It doesn't happen often, but there can be some unhealthy water handling and storage. I only got really sick once, but I lost 4 business days and had to cancel my keynote speech at a conference at the last minute. Very embarrassing.
This isn’t a criticism but when you land in some countries, I think yeah I would love to see the accommodation in this place, only to find you are only transiting 🥲 Great video yet again 👍🏻

As a fan of QSuite, I sincerely feel bad about the sit on their A380. I am not sure if their dreamliners are fitted with the QSuite or a version of it. But I am glad you had a better experience on this leg as opposed to the previous experience of yours. A quick nit pick, am a fan of QR as opposed to EK Business class but the lounge/bar on the EK A380 is more fun than QR Bar (seemingly as I have not been on the QR A380). As an avid watcher and follower of your videos, it would be great if you could review BA and Finnair Business class. I am booked for BA Club World on their 777 (BLR-LHR) and Finnair A350 Business class (HEL-LHR) in April 2024 (I know way in the future that it) and would be great to know your thoughts on either or both of those classes.
Not sure if you know, but I do have videos on BA and AY's business class on the channel. Both shorter flights, but both A350s. Have multiple BA flights coming up this year, but none in J!. Thanks for watching 🩴

great video. im flying doh-bkk in a few months on an a380 and discovered the business price and first class price was the same cost in Avios!! i was so shocked...i obviously booked first class and it went through!! 95k Avios + the 200 in taxes! super excited.. but as im watching your video it looks like as you walked by the "first class" rows, the seats are exactly the same! is there any difference between the two?
For 95k I hope you're flying more than just the single leg... And yes, I had the same booked- US to Bangkok via DOH with the one leg in First. The First Class seats are not anything like the business class seats, so I think you may be looking at the wrong bit. I'd google it so you can see.

Yes and no. At the time the COO was the "Acting" COO who wanted to 'keep me updated' and have a "monthly chat"... He mentioned big changes that he was "excited to tell me about in detail" that should have been out many months ago... safe to say, I haven't heard of any changes at all and GF hasn't contacted me since the last update in the pinned comment in March I believe. So, I assume that COO is no longer there, which means... I don't know how many 'security/immigration issues' I may have if I passed through the airport.
Greatly surprised to see SHJ is the most served route from DOH 🥹
As was I haha. With the nature of DOH’s operation, I suppose 10 flights a day to the same location is a rarity.

I too have 2 segments on UL schedueld for next year- also not for status and booked long before the flyertalk forums went crazy about their cheap fares haha.

As someone who has flown all of the gulf carriers in Business it is clear that Qatar wants to define itself as a mass market airline. Yes the Q Suite is fantastic but it isn’t first class quality and neither is the service, and the rest of their business class is an average hard product (seat / plane) with hit and miss soft product (service). Economy is terrible and they dont even offer a premium economy. Economy long haul is only ever good on an A380 which as Kevin says QR does not like. The fact they own 25% of IAG and plan to float (become a publicly listed company) is the driver for these decisions.

Firing all the crew and banning Josh Cahill from the airline is somewhat draconian. For an airline that is supposed to be a 1st class leading the airways. It is very bad publicity. As I said I worked in all for 25 years in the airline biz. And the working conditions in the UAE for crew is awful.
If you watch his video carefully, his “the whole crew was fired” comment is pure speculation based on a comment on TH-cam from god knows who saying it might happen. He even admits he didn’t know if they were actually fired before near instantly insisting they had been fired. Not to mention if he received an email before his flight that his itinerary was cancelled and he was banned- why show up to the airport and try to check in and be ‘surprised’ you’d need to rent a Maserati at 04:00 to drive to DXB and then pretend like Emirates ‘saved you’. Very sloppy and misleading at best.

Finnair is currently operating flights for QR, for instance to Stockholm Arlanda and Helsinki, due to the A350 paint-issue. Oneworld partnership done right. Finnair is also operating flights for Qantas. The closing of Russian airspace really put a hold on Finnair's operations to asia, one of its most important markets.
Qantas may regret passengers enjoying the new Finnair seats on the Singapore and Bangkok services a little too much!

One bit of advice, if you have not been given yet. Never wear flip flops when flying. If an emergency evacuation is required, flip flops will easily come off & therefore expose feet to potential injury from aircraft debris, rough ground or a hot runway surface. Light shoes or trainers are recommended.
I appreciate that this is the first genuine advise I've ever had on the channel about not wearing flip flops as opposed to the typical "you should be wearing a tuxedo in business class" comments. So, thanks for that!

this business class seats locks an old or early versions of Super Diamond seat and also can found on 787-8, the newer seat have a high shells, or even having a doors for full privacy, i don't think qatar will retrofit an A380s to have Qsuite at least if new CEO have another idea for A380

Looking at your Qatar Airways flight and crewise this one will have a local Qatari and Thai flight attendant. On the other hand flights going towards MNL DVO CEB CRK always have a Filipino Qatar Airways flight attendant. To me the Qatar Airways A380 Rockwell Collins Super Diamond seat seems to be equal to their Oneworld Alliance Partner CX/AA Safran Cirrus seats and Skyteam Alliance KE Collins Aerospace Serenity/ BE MiniPod seat and beat out a PR Mabuhay Class Thompson Vantage XL seat. Towards the Philippines this seat is seen on Doha to Clark Cebu and Davao routes leaving MNL to have the Q suite which is a Safran Fusio seat. Flying economy class on Qatar A380 websites suggests taking Upper deck due to it being a 2-4-2 like an A330-941 due to the lower deck being 3-4-3 seen on B777 B747 and selected A350s economy class.

Might not be the first or last to say this , but as I understand it, there’s a lot of Finnair planes at Doha due to the majority of countries no longer flying in Russian airspace.. as Finnair’s routes to most parts of Asia would overfly parts of Russia , they’ve had to cancel some routes etc .. when QR were angry at Airbus for quite a while , they ended borrowing a number of Finnair’s ‘extra’ planes - most likely their A350’s , and that was that .. I’m also guessing that some Finnair flights to Asia are going via Doha maybe ?
Finally , it’s a real shame about those exposed seats on the QR A380. Maybe a bit of an oversight, I think. Or the final decision made by someone who’s not really very tall ? 😮

I'm hoping to take this flight as part of a CAI-BKK leg of a trip in a yearish. If F is available to book with AA miles I'll opt for that but this looks great too. Do you know if you get access to the Al Safwa lounge if your arrival flight is a regional F but your departure is long haul J?
Yes, all F- region or long haul, arriving or departing- tickets include Al Safwa. That’s apparently the reason why region F exists at all at QR, as a way to attract wealthy regional business to connect in DOH vs DXB or AUH by giving first class lounge access.

I had to delve into my photo files to see the last time I was in Thailand, and its been a while. The last time I traveled through Suvarnabhumi in 2017, construction had just started on the new satellite terminal. Its mind blowing that it only opened a few months ago.
Well to be fair, there was that whole covid thing and all lol.
Doing the return flight of this route in First Class in 2 days time. Cant wait and a first for me. Totally agree with your comment on the QR 388/788 seats. No wonder those seats haven’t been installed on newer aircraft. Great video as ever!

95,000 miles seems like a lot to redeem. But I imagine you have the cost-benefit analysis down to a T.
These days it’s a standard redemption from US East to Southeast Asia, 87k-110k being the normal range. Qatar typically charges absurd cash fares ex. JFK, especially one way (~$6000+) so in that regard, 95k points is a steal lol.

Nope, I mean everything is free. As in, the prices that I added to the menu aren’t chargeable. I used to get lots of silly comments asking if you had to pay for wine on board since I add the retail prices. I suppose now that I clarify it, I still get silly comments.
I mean you have effectively already paid for it in which ever way you have paid for the flight. You pay for an inclusive service, nothing is free.
Qatar airlines is proving to be very disappointing and not being able to accept some positive feedback from Josh Cahill, and in retaliation to some constructive feedback, they fire all the crew and they banned Josh from ever flying with them again. What type of people are these I wouldn’t recommend this airline to anyone, the way they treat their staff it’s disgusting
All I can do is comment on my own experiences. Josh is free to make videos about his. If and when I ever had a horrible experience with QR, I wouldn't hesitate to put them on blast like I have with multiple other airlines, but- that simply hasn't been the case for my flights. Thanks for watching 🩴
I'd take that pre-packaged welcome toilette any time. Why? The regular, moistened toilettes tend not to be heated enough to kill any bacteria they may have picked up prior to being handed via tongs to you. I've flown hundreds of long haul flight and NEVER wiped my face with them, and maybe not even my hands, depending on what they've handled since last washing them.
So you're assuming the clean tongs are full of bacteria? Becuase surely dry towels aren't lol.
@@tfft They're not dry. That's the problem. I also never drink anything on a plane that didn't come from a bottle. No coffee or tea or glass of water from a pitcher. I've been behind the scenes, and seen enough to put me off. It doesn't happen often, but there can be some unhealthy water handling and storage. I only got really sick once, but I lost 4 business days and had to cancel my keynote speech at a conference at the last minute. Very embarrassing.
This isn’t a criticism but when you land in some countries, I think yeah I would love to see the accommodation in this place, only to find you are only transiting 🥲 Great video yet again 👍🏻
