Dawn of War is arguably the greatest warhammer video game of all time and along with Lord of the Rings, is one of the biggest influences on my relationship with Warhammer, and all things tabletop wargaming. It was the spark that lit the inferno which became my teenage Warhammer 40k obsession, as soon as I was immersed within the hobby I wanted to bring this game to life on the table. I made several attempts as a teen, inspired by a mid 2000’s White Dwarf article, and I actually planned to launch this project in 2018 but got distracted by Middle Earth but with Games Workshop currently cranking up the Nostalgia for early Warhammer 40k, I cannot resist any longer.

That moment in the Dawn of War intro when the Dreadnought appears from the the dust and opens up with the assault cannon... mm-mm! ALMOST as good as the Mechwarrior 2 intro!

Agreed! I was sorely disappointed when I found out that it was ended early. I love the MESBG stuff, 30K battle reports and the announcement of this 40K endeavor equally and watch it all.
Yeah, I'm not even a battle report guy but those were really good. I guess the algorithm had him pigeonholed in some way? Or maybe there's not a huge audience for battle reports? I dunno. Real shame.
Agreed. Mark of Calth was great. The _Algorithm_ is wrong for bringing it down!
terrain building and battle reports audiences seem to have so little overlap that TH-cam puts them in different corners. Smart of zorp to put them on a different channel. The tabletop time crew had a similar problem with their live rpg sessions so they also made a separate channel for that. Otherwise, it’s not just that you get less views on these specific videos, you get less views on the others as well, so OVERALL decreasing views. TH-cam really pushes you into one corner cuz then it’s easier for them to find **your** target audience. Sucks for channels that do more than one thing

This is so awesome. I played Dawn of War a lot as a youngin when i wasnt able to afford the real thing. This is so awesome, nostalgic, and actually makes me want to paint space marines for the first time. Was always an Ork guy.

I played Dawn of War in college. I introduced it to so many of my friends. Still my favorite RTS of all time. The aggressive nature of the game and focus on capturing strategic points made it so different than anything else to that point.
Question - Where did you get the Space Marine buildings from? Are they 3D prints, or did you make them?

Are you still planning on completing the Dol Guldur board? It was the reason I first started watching the channel and I'm hoping it got finished before the move! The use of in game mechanics on the tabletops a great idea too. I really enjoyed the star wars legion batreps so I'm looking forward to this campaign.
The new terminators are some of my favourite sculpts in recent time.
Perfect update of the old style model - huge improvement without taking away the original style at all.
Would love to do this with Necrons because Dark Crusade is the best one. Trying to get some of the old models now are tough like the Pariahs

It's good to see your take on Gabriel Angelos. I hadn't even assembled the one the Forge World version that I had. It was disappointing to hear that he has been moved to Legends status as of the 10th edition update. More Blood Raven stuff is great to see!

I actually have a blood ravens army all fully painted and themed off. Of the game including characters conversions.
They are all Primaris for scale and also beithey are newer But I have done everything I can to keep it true to the game, need the Leviathan box to get the dreadnought and termies 😁

For what it's worth, I thoroughly love this project and don't think you should limit yourself to the original weapons. Go ahead and add lascannon and multi-meltas and heaps of stuff as long as it's fun.

Massive dawn of war fan, so I'll definitely be subbing to your other channel. And as someone who's been in the hobby for 30 odd years I always hated painting until I had a revelation that you touched on here. Don't be tidy until you need to be tidy. Just attacking the model with size 5 brush to get base colours blocked in, then going back and adding boundary colours more neatly just saves so much time and effort.
Sorry if it was stated in the video and I missed it, but where did you get (if anywhere) those Dawn of War buildings?

Sad about Mark of Calth, I really enjoyed it.... but I admit I waited a few weeks/months before watching it as I was in the middle of reading the novels and didn't want to get spoiled. :-(
Oh haha this is nuts what a random coincidence, spent the week re-playing DoW2 as I found myself with some time. Doesn't hit the same like DoW1, a bit short and samey but was fun.
I have actually NEVER played 2, might be time! Spent like a zillion hours in DoW1 but never liked the look of 2 as a teen.
@@Zorpazorp Yeah it's not the same game that's for sure. Small squad skirmish without base building and is a bit same every mission. But it has a focus on marines vs nid invasion so could give you some inspiration.

GW needs to show blood ravens more love in the setting. They brought over so many into 40k including myself. For a great blood ravens base red try Citadel word bearers red. It's a little thin so 2 nice coats and some agrax shade and your good.
I like that you kitbashed a Gabriel model. Look really cool! Forge world does have a model of gabiral too but it DOW3 version.....

Oh no Nostolgia gates have opened....The intro. Voice lines and animated hand to hand exectutions in this game were unparalleled. Zooming the camera right into the action aas amazing so I could see my custom chapter "the fire foxes" doing battle. Custom paint jobs in the game was great. Multiplayer battles with my brother

I am sad to hear that mark of calth didn't do as well as you wanted it too but then i can relate to that. three months went into my cadia stands build and paint video and while it didn't even get 100 views but the shorts videos i did on the builds did interesting. though what you call a failure i would still call doing well, each of your calth videos did better than all of my channel's videoes combined views wise

One of the best video games ever - especially enjoy bigger and bigger armies as pcs get more and more powerful - love the DOW terrain!!
1. They should renaster "Dawn of War 1 - 3", maybe consider a Part 4 in general, and port them to modern consoles!
2. GW should realy do a tabletop version, or maybe boardgame of this!

Does anyone know if these new terminators with knees are the same size as the most recent limited edition terminator librarian they released, Lexicanum Varus? He has knees as well.
So too late to help I suppose but for a different red finish that is easy to replicate, Rhinox Hide base with Flesh Tearers Red over the top. Talk about your lustrous dark red finish. And no mixing four or five colours which will be implossible to mix with the next batch. Try it, see if you like it, show the viewers.
