      Why have you missed out RMS Queen Elizabeth, 1,031 feet long, launched in 1938. Sister ship of the RMS Queen Mary?

    • @carlosivanwencesaguirre9578
      @carlosivanwencesaguirre9578 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The biggest is not always the most beautiful, Royal Caribean cruises look like floating shopping centers. On the other hand, Cunard maintains its ship essence regardless of the size. The Queen Mary 2 is the most beautiful boat of all time, the only one in my opinion that surpasses the Olimpic Class and the QM 1 in aesthetics. There is another one just as beautiful but it is from a movie, Poseidon.

    She may not be the biggest or fanciest or fastest but I do have a soft spot for The Carpathia. An unremarkable ship in many ways yet it never failed to rise to challenges that were far beyond its original intent. Steaming well in excess of her maximum service speed to rush to Titanics aid, and later taking 3 torpedos and 2 hours to sink in WW1, she served with a distinction I can only admire.

    • @silvertbird1

      Agree completely! As I was watching, was delighted to see Carpathia, and at the end of the video I thought if I could only sail in one of those ships, it would be Carpathia. I love that ship.

      @@Legendaryium Thats true, but she still had to be well enough designed and constructed to have 3 good spots to be torpedoed to begin with, just a few decades earlier most ships with similar damage likely would have sunk much much faster.

    I’m glad you showed The SS Great Eastern which was an iron sail-powered, paddle wheel and screw-propelled steamship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and built by John Scott Russell & Co. at Millwall Iron Works on the River Thames, London. She was the largest ship ever built at the time of her 1858 launch, and had the capacity to carry 4,000 passengers from England to Australia without refuelling. Her length of 692 feet (211 m) was surpassed only in 1899 by the 705-foot (215 m) 17,274-gross-ton RMS Oceanic, her gross tonnage of 18,915 was only surpassed in 1901 by the 701-foot (214 m) 20,904-gross-ton RMS Celtic and her 4,000-passenger capacity was surpassed in 1913 by the 4,234-passenger SS Imperator. The vessel also had the largest set of paddle wheels. I’m proud to say that Brunel was an ancestor of mine.

The only ship that still sails and somewhat resembles this bygone elegance is the Queen Mary 2, but even she is far away from the beauty of the real Ocean Liners and she won't be arround for that much longer. When QM2 is gone, we will never ever see an elegant ship sail again. We will be left with those white, insanely huge, super ugly and deformed floating amusement parks that we call cruise ships.

      Aside from the fact she sank, Bradley was typical of smaller self-unloaders. Including the Cort or the Presque Isle or the Paul Tregurtha - or any of the Great Lakes 1,000-footers - might have been more representative. Though I can understand the author's intent in using the Edmund Fitzgerald; among the wider audience, most people's knowledge of Great Lakes shipping begins and ends with Lightfoot's song about the Fitz.
