От части "титановые" корпуса делают сша, немцы, китай, бриты, французы и корейцы, вот только титановыми они не называли (что с точки зрения материаловедения правильно). Все достижения ссср надо рассматривать скептически, ссср конечно далеко не отсталая страна, но то как их достижения передает местная пропаганда добавляет кратность заслуг. Примеров много, ссср лидер по числу аварий на подлодкках, особенно ядерных и способных носить ЯО (но к сожалению нам никто не скажет был ли боекоплект на борту и узнать это самостоятельно на текущий момент нереально).

The city is called Kalmar which is one of the last subs. Kalmar is a city on the Swedish east coast just by the long thin island Öland. Kalmar is first mentioned on a few runestones from the late Viking age. But based on archeological findings and several old grave fields the aria and possibly Kalmar have bin inhabited since at least 1-2 BCE. Kalmar isn't named from Russian but from ancient nordic and it means something like a carin on a rocky island. By my coment wasn't entirely serious. I just find it funny when USSR have a thing for using their subs in Swidish territorial waters and have a sub named Kalmar. They even follow Swedish naming standards for warships. But it had been even funnier if it was a Kalmar class in the whiskey on the rock incident.

I must say USS Holland was quite advanced for year 1897 :P (it is obviously mistake) However, many doesn't know it, but British built M class submarines at 1916 -1919 with the massive gun, and they were as large as 93 meters! Also Germans had massive cruiser type submarines over length of 90 meters.
yeah 1897 is not a mistake, it was launched in 1897, and as someone else has already stated, was commissioned in 1900, however looked like the SS-X1 that follows it in the video.

I find it odd that so few people in the comments talk about how impressive Sweden is to be alongside such large and power countries. Such a small country like it was one of the first countries alongside with the big giants like US, Russian, China, Germany could actually manufacture submarines. And to this day still operates submarines like their famous Gotland class that actually sank a US aircraft carrier "USS Ronald Reagan" during a War game exercise. Snuck past the entire strike group, managed to fire it's torpedoes and leave completely undetected. Truly impressive for a country of it's size and GDP to build such advanced machinery like the Gotland and planes like the "Gripen".

I am happy to see others thought the same. I think especially since this particular submarine is the first to ever sink a ship in combat it is of special historical significance. Not likely, as it was powered by batteries only, with no combustion engine to recharge them, and had extremely limited range. If it had been taken into service, it would have only seen duty for harbor defence. Also the state of the Armada was such that a few submarines wouldn't have made any difference. That's not even considering the political aspects that hampered Spain in the conflict.
N@@pepelopez7518 No. I knew that there was a large naval budget problem, the Spanish didn't care much about giving up the Philippines (but wanted to keep Cuba), new battleships were still unfinished, and a large part of the Armada was kept at home due to tensions with the Italians over control of the Mediterranean.
Will have to update soon with some new submarines on the horizon, in build or recently entering service - UK Dreadnaught (153.6m), US Columbia Class (171m under construction), North Korean Sinpo-C-class submarine (76-86m?), North Korean Sang-O-class (35-40m?) and China's Type 039 submarine (74.9m). As always the list lack plenty of nations' submarines. The video could have at lesat mentioned one of the Italian midget submarines either the Caproni CA (10m) and Caproni CB (15m) and at least one of the WW1-WW2-Cold War Italian subs (45 to ~70m). Also the Type 212 is a joint German-Italian design

Not sure why it was missed but the Gato-class subs that were used during WWII at 311ft should be between Japan's Soryu and the UK's Astute. Named after the lead ship of the class, USS Gato, they were the first mass-production U.S. submarine class of World War II. This class, diesel-engined, accounted for most of the Navy's World War II submarines; they destroyed much of the Japanese merchant marine and a large portion of the Imperial Japanese Navy. My father-in-law, Thomas L. Rittenhouse, served on the USS Gurnard-254 patrolling mostly the Pacific Ocean.
Missed the USS Lafayette (polaris) class missle subs, (along with the Nautilus and other early US nuke subs) and the :Akula" was actually the Typhoon class. Should have focused more on the sub classes that saw significant produciton.

Paltus class subs were much smaller than you have noted here. It would have been cool to see the Alpha class, which were super fast for their size due to being built out of a titanium alloy hull and major structural parts.
I'm sure there are many models missing, which is understandable, especially since this does not claim to be an all-inclusive list. The Upholder/2400 class from the UK (70 m, 1990), which became the Victoria class for Canada, is an example of a type which was omitted. As the UK's last diesel type and Canada's only current type, it is of some significance.
Curious that some countries like Spain are always forgotten in this kind of videos, having in this case very interesting models for the comparison: the first ever build submarine in history and the s80 (one of the most powerful diesel-powered modern submarines). Yep, French cruiser submarine "Surcouf" is a notable missing, too. I would have included British "K class", due to their unconventional design. Also I think that at least one Italian submarine should have been included, Italy had the second largest submarine fleet in the world at the beginning of WW2.
Back in 2007 an old vietnam vet loaned me a book that told a story about a time when either right before or during ww2, Japan attacked alaska with a submarine that functioned as an underwater aircraft carrier. Can't remember if the book was fiction or not but it was a cool concept.
There were numerous Japanese subs that carried a single aircraft, the type was common in the IJA. They used one to drop incendiaries in the Pacific Northwest.
I feel like water displacement may have been better than length to determine size and was hoping to see the UK's Dreadnaught class on there even though its not in service yet but good video nonetheless.

As far as I know, Type B and sentoku, which appeared as Japanese submarines, are generally called "Otsu-class submarine cruisers" and "I-400 type submarines" in Japan. However, Type B is a literal translation of Otsu-gata and is not a big mistake. Also, Sentoku is another name for "i-400gata submarine", so it is not completely wrong. However, I prefer it to be called otsu-gata and i400.(I'm using Google Translate and posting without checking much, so there may be some strange parts.)

According to this information, the shape of Sentoku (i-400 type) is probably Type B (i-15 type: ~ i-39). Since the i-400 is equipped with three aircraft compared to the one aircraft of the i-15, the length of the hangar (bridge structure) does not account for about one-third of the total length. The city is called Kalmar which is one of the last subs.
Kalmar is a city on the Swedish east coast just by the long thin island Öland.
Kalmar is first mentioned on a few runestones from the late Viking age. But based on archeological findings and several old grave fields the aria and possibly Kalmar have bin inhabited since at least 1-2 BCE.
Kalmar isn't named from Russian but from ancient nordic and it means something like a carin on a rocky island.
By my coment wasn't entirely serious. I just find it funny when USSR have a thing for using their subs in Swidish territorial waters and have a sub named Kalmar. They even follow Swedish naming standards for warships.
But it had been even funnier if it was a Kalmar class in the whiskey on the rock incident.

I must say USS Holland was quite advanced for year 1897 :P (it is obviously mistake) However, many doesn't know it, but British built M class submarines at 1916 -1919 with the massive gun, and they were as large as 93 meters! Also Germans had massive cruiser type submarines over length of 90 meters.

The inventor of the first operational submarine is considered to be the Dutchman Cornelius Drebbel. In 1620
September 7, 1776, went down in history as the date of the first combat use of a submarine. The Turtle attempted to attack the British flagship (frigate HMS Eagle). Volunteer Sergeant Ezra Lee volunteered to bring the Turtle to the frigate and attach a mine, but it was not possible to attach the mine to the ship - he came across an iron hook and could not drill through the hull. Actually, the first functional submarine was invented by the Spaniard Isaac Peral in 1859. Well, what Drebbel believed was little more than a walnut shell with oars. The one from the Spanish Isaac Peral, had electric batteries, torpedoes and a periscope, much more like what we have today. The turtle that appears at the beginning of the video, is little more than an American legend and I never sail because it didn't even work. Another Spaniard Narcís Monturiol, was shortly after the inventor of the oxygen recycling system in submarines. Spain is thus placed as the nation that contributed the most to the modern development of the submarine, in the same way, the Spanish Navy has the S-81 being one of the most modern and manoeuvrable in the world. The same Spanish military company called NAVANTIA manufactures its most technological ships for the United States fleet, obviously since the American Defence budget is much larger than the Spanish one.
Diving bells are not submarines because they are not self propelled
I find it odd that so few people in the comments talk about how impressive Sweden is to be alongside such large and power countries. Such a small country like it was one of the first countries alongside with the big giants like US, Russian, China, Germany could actually manufacture submarines. And to this day still operates submarines like their famous Gotland class that actually sank a US aircraft carrier "USS Ronald Reagan" during a War game exercise. Snuck past the entire strike group, managed to fire it's torpedoes and leave completely undetected. Truly impressive for a country of it's size and GDP to build such advanced machinery like the Gotland and planes like the "Gripen".

My thoughts
Even if one had to be triggered by a flag, which is blatantly stupid in that case, there is a nazi flag so the confederate one is nothing really.
I am happy to see others thought the same. I think especially since this particular submarine is the first to ever sink a ship in combat it is of special historical significance. Further if for some reason the confederate flag is more offensive than both the nazi, soviet, and communist Chinese flags at the very least it should not be flagged with a US flag since it was a US flagged vessel the Housatonic which it sank. Just leave the flag off that one. Really silly tbh.

Not likely, as it was powered by batteries only, with no combustion engine to recharge them, and had extremely limited range. If it had been taken into service, it would have only seen duty for harbor defence. Also the state of the Armada was such that a few submarines wouldn't have made any difference.
That's not even considering the political aspects that hampered Spain in the conflict.

No. I knew that there was a large naval budget problem, the Spanish didn't care much about giving up the Philippines (but wanted to keep Cuba), new battleships were still unfinished, and a large part of the Armada was kept at home due to tensions with the Italians over control of the Mediterranean.

Not sure why it was missed but the Gato-class subs that were used during WWII at 311ft should be between Japan's Soryu and the UK's Astute. Named after the lead ship of the class, USS Gato, they were the first mass-production U.S. submarine class of World War II. This class, diesel-engined, accounted for most of the Navy's World War II submarines; they destroyed much of the Japanese merchant marine and a large portion of the Imperial Japanese Navy. My father-in-law, Thomas L. Rittenhouse, served on the USS Gurnard-254 patrolling mostly the Pacific Ocean.
Missed the USS Lafayette (polaris) class missle subs, (along with the Nautilus and other early US nuke subs) and the :Akula" was actually the Typhoon class. Should have focused more on the sub classes that saw significant produciton.

Для безопасности хорошо конечно, но вот для удобства плохо, очень много места пропадет, иза этих перехов между секциями.
Получится что сама лодка большая а места в ней почти как в обычной, ниже классом.

Paltus class subs were much smaller than you have noted here. It would have been cool to see the Alpha class, which were super fast for their size due to being built out of a titanium alloy hull and major structural parts.
I'm sure there are many models missing, which is understandable, especially since this does not claim to be an all-inclusive list.
The Upholder/2400 class from the UK (70 m, 1990), which became the Victoria class for Canada, is an example of a type which was omitted. As the UK's last diesel type and Canada's only current type, it is of some significance.
Curious that some countries like Spain are always forgotten in this kind of videos, having in this case very interesting models for the comparison: the first ever build submarine in history and the s80 (one of the most powerful diesel-powered modern submarines).

I would have included British "K class", due to their unconventional design.
Also I think that at least one Italian submarine should have been included, Italy had the second largest submarine fleet in the world at the beginning of WW2.
Back in 2007 an old vietnam vet loaned me a book that told a story about a time when either right before or during ww2, Japan attacked alaska with a submarine that functioned as an underwater aircraft carrier. Can't remember if the book was fiction or not but it was a cool concept.
The japanese did have a sub able to launch a plane.
There were numerous Japanese subs that carried a single aircraft, the type was common in the IJA. They used one to drop incendiaries in the Pacific Northwest.

It is the wrong model as with many of these subs, the Holland design was much more antique if you google it.

For the Akula, I think that even if symbolically, it's classy. Tactically it can be surely easily spotted while a smaller submarine, even if it is less powerful, it can surely slip between enemy lines while remaining discreet.
Part of it was a technological limitation, the Soviet missiles were larger and required a larger platform to carry them.

As far as I know, Type B and sentoku, which appeared as Japanese submarines, are generally called "Otsu-class submarine cruisers" and "I-400 type submarines" in Japan. However, Type B is a literal translation of Otsu-gata and is not a big mistake. Also, Sentoku is another name for "i-400gata submarine", so it is not completely wrong. However, I prefer it to be called otsu-gata and i400.(I'm using Google Translate and posting without checking much, so there may be some strange parts.)
I'd put the name I-400 in there, too. It's more familiar that way, and the picture doesn't help.

According to this information, the shape of Sentoku (i-400 type) is probably Type B (i-15 type: ~ i-39).
Since the i-400 is equipped with three aircraft compared to the one aircraft of the i-15, the length of the hangar (bridge structure) does not account for about one-third of the total length. It is from. The aircraft containment tubes are also different.
