- The Boys Season 4 episode 2 gave us a few surprises we weren't expecting starting with a Will Ferrell cameo and ending with an insane fight sequence between The Boys and Splinter, a supe with the ability to make copies of himself.
Catching up Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) , Homelander (Antony Starr) , Hughie Campbell (Jack Quaid), Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and many more!
The Boys 4x2 is titled "Life Among the Septics". Billy tells The Boys his remaining time to live and is kicked out. Homelander and Sister Sage organize Ryan's first mission. The Boys and Billy gain a lead on Sage recruiting Firecracker, ending in a massive, bloody fight and the death of Firecracker's ally, Splinter; Firecracker flees. During Ryan's mission, Homelander abruptly appears off-script and forces Ryan to use his power, resulting in the fake criminal's death. After a fight, Billy visits MM in an attempt to return to The Boys, to no success. Feeling guilty for his actions, A-train gives Starlight and Hughie evidence for clearing her supporters accused of being responsible for the death of multiple people that supported Homelander.

I love how Homelander, who recruited Sage in the first place because she wasn't a sycophant, gets visibly irritated when she questions his logic. That's Homelander in a nutshell: there's just no pleasing him at all.
Textbook narcissist plus he doesn’t wanna be sidelined by his own son
But that's his weakness his need to be loved if he loses that he's even more dangerous.
I have a feeling that sage will get overconfident, she will assume she can keep ordering him but homelander* will eventually say fk it and one shot her. Then he will have no choice but to go along with the plan she had, but since he changed it a lot by killing her, it will only work partially for him.

@@dynastyishim She is confident that he needs her, she said it herself, that otherwise he would have killed her. The fact he hasn't served her as proof that she is correct and that he won't kill her. What I'm saying is that she knows he needs her, but she will underestimate his irrationality or "pettiness". The fact he lasered the IT girl already set precedent that homelander will act against his interests, and that she can't actually control him. Besides, it will be narratively satisfying for her to be killed that way.

Some of the humor in this is so dark but it freaking works and that’s why we love “The Boys” 🤣
I question the sanity of the writers.

I honestly love that Hughie actually calls out his mom. In most shows, they would have the guy rehearse it in his head only for him to not go through with it and forgive the person. No, Hughie does it and it's satisfying af.
Plus it shows his character arc! In the first episode he pictured calling out the lawyer from vought but didnt do it

Love the dynamic of homelander trying to find a replacement for butcher. That someone to challenge him and stand up to him without fear. This is ironic because he's trying to surround himself with more sups. No one has really challenged Homelander like this "human" has, until i guess sage. She's definitely seen more as a human than sup so far. She's giving me LEX LUTHER vibes.
So fun fact about the very episode of the series: apparently, Butcher mixing up the color of the pills from The Matrix was Karl Urban actually getting confused for a moment. That's what Eric Kripke went with. He confirmed it in an interview 😂

But they have said she is the most intelligent sentient creature on the planet.
She would not only know that Homelander reads your vital signs to know if you are lying or telling the truth. She already would have learnt about animals that can hide their heartbeat and fear reflex and how to master it swiftly. She would have realised she needs to show herself to be a strong woman whilst making sure that everything she says to him, he believes is the truth. She's the smartest creature on earth. She's outsmarting him
Yeah. But what’s her ultimate agenda in doing so? She doesn’t blink at any of the murders, though there seemed to be a bit of regret when she met up with Todd and them.
You know you wrote a good villain when the audience automatically starts sweating the second Homelander shows up on-screen. The thought of being in the room as him genuinely terrifies me. Why? Because I could suck up to him in every way and he would still kill me just cuz he feels like it.
God each season keeps finding the most disgusting ways to shock me that sauna scene will haunt me
Check out the top-down shot of the Splinter corpse who got crowbar'd. Then look up how Hitler died. Then, look again at the corpse shot.
It's actually not subtle at all once you see it, but it is done in a way that it takes some time to click; it's an incredibly well-done "wait, WHAT did I just see?" moment. Also, a Black guy clubbing a flaming anti-semite with a menorah had me ROFLing beyond belief. The political commentary is thick and all over, but it is not forced; it just flows from the general storyline as required. This is a work of art.
Also check out the comments scrolling by on the smartphones during the "rescue" scene. Hilarious.
45:25 - was that a conscious Trump reference? Kripke has confirmed that he adapted the comics (which are a sociopolitical comment on the Dubya years) to be a sociopolitical comment on Trump/MAGA, and that his version of Homelander is *literally* Trump (mentally, and - as seen by his fans - physically as well... which is hard to believe until you see how Ben Garrison draws him).
Needless to say, a lot of people hate Season 4 and just want a no-brains action movie with lots of gore. I, OTOH, love it. It is goofy and entertaining, but at the same time it is gritty and incredibly, incredibly poignant. They even included a poster of Jesus wielding an assault rifle as a prop in the first Truthercon scene (briefly visible in left background). This love for detail is what got me hooked on the series.
Mad props to Susan Heyward and Valorie Curry BTW. It takes loads of skill to play the smartest - that is to say, perma-exasperated - PERSON on Earth (Sage is also 10 years younger than Heyward), and what you get when you order Stormfront on Wish, as convincingly as they do. The toilet scene introducing Sage in E1 was just gold, and all she did was read a book and listen to a sped-up lecture at the same time, then wipe her butt.
tl;dr: The Boys has matured to a point where it has become the abyss staring back at us ("us" being US/European society).
Since there is pretty much nobody alive anymore who witnessed, consciously and with their own eyes, how Hitler leveraged democracy to get himself installed as a tyrant (Sage's "rescue the humans from themselves" scheme basically sums up the narrative that brought the Nazis to power), The Boys may be the best warning we'll ever get.
It totally beats "Schindler's List"-type movies at that, because the Nazis were not just plain evil - they were (and far too many people these days forget that) incredibly seductive and even convincing and in 1929-33 did seem to many Germans - and many non-Germans too - the most sane and logical choice, the last and only hope of a simple solution to "fix all this mess". And it is hard to deny that today, popular craving for an Übermensch to lead and guide us huddled masses, to make a shades-of-grey world nicely black-and-white again, has again reached horrendously unsafe proportions.

I watched this last night. I think I woke my neighbours when I screamed “Chuck no!”
Part of me wonders with Hughie's mom if something happened when he was younger that he doesn't remember that caused his mom to have to leave for his safety. Maybe she worked for Vaught and saw something she shouldn't have, and disappeared so both him and his dad would be safe from supes like Tek Knight. If they really don't know why she left or where she went, it would be more trouble for Vaught to kill them and clean it up than to just forget about them.
The Boys reminds me of The Handmaid's Tale in that every episode they leave you feeling "well, it couldn't possibly get any worse than this", and yet in the next episode it somehow gets much, much worse. And I absolutely love that. :)

Maybe. It’s certainly possible. But it also seems she’s creating friction where there wasn’t any, and, being as smart as she is, she’s likely to realize how loose a cannon Homelander truly is. They lost valuable intel because he can’t control his impulses, intel that would have outed A-Train, most likely.
He doesn’t listen when it comes to the staged hostage situation with Ryan and things go sideways.
I’m honestly not sure what she’s up to. But I think she’s going to do something unexpected one way or another.

I believe a few seasons back Frenchie threw a bachelorette party for MM, got strippers from both sexes and told MM to be more “open minded”. Pretty sure the writers just got tired of being subtle about it and decided to just outright show it but Frenchie has been bisexual for some time now.
