Idk anything about like the lore other than surface stuff, but if I had to guess at composer intent on "In a Day" it would be representing being a very small orderly voice among mechanized chaos. The piano is there for a lot of the song but only comes to the front of the mix a couple of times. Whenever it does, the synth gets louder and more erratic after. It's a very modest sounding piano part too, very high and bright, orderly, bordering on cheerful sometimes. But it just gets absolutely crushed by everything thing else, which I imagine is like being a lone soldier crushed by a robot foot the size of a building.
I looked at the comments and its RD?'s theme?! when I would expect its Chief or Exusia.... huh glad to be wrong then again I couldnt hear the music cause I think I toned most of the sound down a bit
I have won the battle... But at what cost. "In a Day" its one of my favorites tracks of ACV along side "Vulture" and "Laments over the howling age/Just tuned"
I think the changing garage theme in Last Raven illustrates your point really well, starting sleek, and tense but slowly becoming more nervous, and melancholy, and then plain bleak as the bodies pile high, secrets are discovered, and the tea and coffee run out.
so now that the game is out... the music is fine. there are a few really good, 4th and 5th gen-eque songs, but it's mostly just synths. though, based on the fact that those songs show up later (with the most armored core sounding one being the end credits theme) i'm hoping that this was to ease souls fans into armored core music and that they'll go all out for the potential dlc or next game.
I cannot overstate how I really, really appreciate this series so far (especially as a fellow gamedev). New kids on the block are all looking at AC for the story, the lore, the easter eggs, but I'm going in for two things: PvP and the OST. This really was a pillar of my life since the day I played MoA. Seeing Kota/FreQuency's music grow as I grew up, getting better and better each entry is something I am incredibly grateful to have experienced. That last ACV song you played... my mind immediately went back to 2013/14 -- I was a senior at university, my older brother was living with me, and on my way back from getting groceries on a hot summer day blasting FreQuency in my car radio, we came home, brought down the TV from upstairs to the living room, plugged in both of our PS3s, and logged into ACVD playing until the sun set. The AC4/4A OST was on loop throughout my college career -- studying long late hours at the library while listening to Cosmos, Panther, and Someone is Always Moving on the Surface. It's weird -- yes, these songs are earworms, but I was always hesitant to recommend them to other people because I just didn't think they would know where I was coming from. Also, funny enough, I didn't even own a PS3/Xbox 360 for the longest time, so I didn't even need to play the games to enjoy the music. These songs are personal to me -- there were with me through my best times and worst times. I know, it sounds incredibly sentimental and cheesy -- and the same could be said with "actual" normie music, but for some reason, it was Armored Core for me. You don't understand that, even way back when when you were doing Blender videos, how big of a smile I had when you concluded each video with Monkey Likes Daddy. It's like we grew up in the same house. Anyway, Apex in the Circle is GOAT, followed by Shape Memory Alloys. Yeah, I'm a MoA fanboy -- fight me -- or not, actually, I realize that I'm way out of league based on your last video.
Hey man, you're very welcome, I'm so glad to hear you are enjoying the series, and I know exactly what you mean - I also have a lot of AC music just playing in the background when I work, and it's always helped me focus when I need to grind lol Thank you so much for the kind words and sharing your experience in the comments, it was a lot of fun to read, and looking forward to seeing ya in the next vid :)
ACV and Verdict Day’s soundtracks always made me feel like a siren was going off, and that really enhanced the tone of those two games. Fitting, when V was the first to feature a tank tread AC in its opening, and it’s as terrifying as you’d think.
I didn’t know this dude had been with Fromsoft A1 Day 1! I think AC6 is gonna be the best soundtrack Fromsoft has to date. Everything from the theme, to the story trailer music, garage music, boss music when he was fighting the AC unit Sulla and then the music for the flying boss BALTEUS OMG I had goosebumps the entire time I was watching the fight
"What do you think It sounds like when two robots fight to the death in an arena?" Probably something similar to how that Bell next the subscribe button chimes when a Royal Skies vid uploads.
aye more Kota Hoshino appreciation! He has my full trust for this game's ost, I'm just deeply hoping for some specific nods to the old band days with Frequency. I'd Especially love to hear his singing voice again
So many people are already talking about the music in Armored Core 6. In an interview with PC Gamer, Yamamura stated: "We wanted this sense of loneliness and sense of nostalgia in the game, so we give [Kota Hoshino] these nebulous 'keywords' and he'll compose whatever he likes based on that. We get those [songs] back, put them in the missions, and see how it plays out. (...) As [the songs] come back we give him more keywords to work with, and just let him go to town on it, basically." They tell him a word, and he spins it into gold. The dude's a genius! I can't wait to become absolutely engrossed in the Fires of Rubicon, immersed deeply in another OST by the great Kota Hosino.
I think one of the best pieces of evidence that From have nailed music presentation in AC is the alternate music DLC in Verdict Day. Magnolia's fight with the song Day After Day or the final boss J with the song Cosmos just pull some incredible emotions out of your soul. Especially how they reworked the cutscenes to include the new music, including the phase transition cutscenes. It's just perfect.
THE DEEP SEA FISH LOVES YOU FOREVEEEER ALL ARE AS YOUR THINKING OVEEER OUT OF SPACE WHEN SOMEONE WAITS THERE SOUND OF JET. THEY PLAYED FOR OUUUT i love ac music duuude and I haven't even played any of em games
You know that a soundtrack is powerful when you get stuck on main menu upon first launching the game because you can't stop listening to the title main title - Deus Ex 1, Mafia 2, Fallout 3 are some examples I remember the most. Then in rare cases great game soundtracks get even better in sequels... Unreal Tournament 3, Deus Ex 3 & 4... Hope AC6 meets all your expectations :)
Ngl when I had my mecha robot hyper fixation in 2021 even tho I like mecha before that year but still that's when I listen to the entire armored core soundtrack from armored core 1 to special disc vol 2 and man all the music is phenomenal. It be sounding like soul music which is what I love on old school video game music. So right now I'm listening to the entire soundtrack again but in my brother headset because the hp reverb g2 sounds fantastic.
The "In A Day" track makes me think of the deranged mind of someone who's been trapped inside a broken machine for a very long time, their brain augmented by war and the weapon wired to it.
When I read AC6 I interpreted it as Ace Combat 6 soundtrack, and I got excited that someone was gonna express the love i have for that soundtrack. Armored Core is good too 😂
The track gives me early NIN vibes. Pretty Hate Machine days. Dude, I have a great idea RE: UE5. I'll see if you have an email address. Came for jiggle physics, stayed for the great content. thanks for your time.
The song really makes me picture an assembly sequence for an AC getting prepped for a mission before cutting, launching them into the mission zone, then cutting to various battle sequences with them dodging and dishing out damage to the enemy forces, occasionally taking a few hits, before the pilot is presented with either a skilled rival AC or a towering large boss type. Super awesome battle sequence ensues with flashy attacks, high speed thrust action, and lots of sparks, fire, and other effects to sell the chaos. AC ultimately wins, but could use a sensu bean as its collapsed to its knees unmoving, smoke rising from the AC's damage and the surrounding results of the carnage razed area. General area lighting is dim, final shot focuses on the AC from a 7 o'clock level perspective zoomed in, camera slowly pulls away, and the only sign that the pilot is still kicking is the red light from the eyes of the AC remaining as the rest of the area light fades to black. Thats a rough go in my head, but anymore and this comment would become ridiculous. Sound is stupid critical to selling the emotion and building that deeper connection than what can be achieved with the rest of the game, and this guy is crushing it.
Royalskies have you thought about creating a series on how to put a character inside a 3d world and make a "behavior" for them, like make them idle, walk along a pattern, charge at you when they notice you or get attacked, have different attacks that they do depending on the situation or at random etc. I've always wondered how this is done, especially video game bosses. I know how to model, sculpt, rig, texture, render and animate but not how to make a character really come to life like that
We'll be getting into the animation related stuff towards the end of next month, we just got to get through a few other things first like SFX and controlling some blueprint stuff :)
@@TheRoyalSkies Yep! As I said, hearing your samples makes me want to buy the whole OST. I'll definitely check it out. 🙂 Even tho I have no intention of actually playing the game. (Just not my thing.)
Honestly the two songs that defined feeling like an ace for me, for a long time in AC, were Circulation and Complete Physical. Yes, both from AC 1 (with remakes later in Another Age IIRC.) There are chunks of music stuck in my head from all the games, King Lear from AC 2, Artificial Line, (after 3 versions of Silent Line, that hit hard at the end.) Panther of AC 4 (or was that FA? I swear I mix them up too often.) the inevitable Nine and it's remixes, the bloody assembly/shop music from basically every single game in the series. Your description of music as the cheat code to your players emotions is spot on.
I know you are an armored core guy but have you played Murakumo renegade pursuit it was made by FromSoft and I remembered playing it when I was younger but I never finished it. If you got an old Xbox you can play it. It was like a mini-baby AC
@TheRoyalSkies yea I'd check it out it's not so in depth there's pre-made mechs that you select from so it's not so vast of array of like guns and arms legs etc. Also as far as I remember it's all in the air so there's no real like boost management and such. I feel like you already know this, but I mean the ORIGINAL Xbox, not the 360.
