Time for a Yamaha and a good mechanic. You need to check water pump, oil, lower unit for plastic bags. My motors last over 5000 hours. I find plastic bags wrapped around the water intakes about every 100 hours. So I check the lower unit halfway through every trip. I change oil anndfilter every 100 to 120 hours. I also change the large separating 10 micron fuel filter every 100 hours
As a mobile marine tech/business owner who manages a rental fleet in Jersey, they small motor mercy 60hp. Oils is done every two weeks oil filter once a month and 300hr service begging of season.
Want reliability but from a inboard? Go with a Yanmar diesel and a surface drive. They can last 50k hours and save a lot of money on fuel and fuel weight. Yanmar has a Viking yacht somewhere on their site that is approaching 60k hours and still running!
After rebuilding several suzuki and other 4 stroke outboards, I’ve found the machine work from the factory is not very accurate. Cranks are not straight , cylinders not even top to bottom. Wondering what the failures are on these motors with 3000hrs . Was it internal motor damage or other issues. I would want to try a rebuild if it’s not catastrophic failure and see how long a properly rebuilt motor would last?
I’ve never heard of a 4strokes going 8000 hours. Some 2 strokes. In CommercialI’ve seen most 4strokes 2800-6500 hours. Higher hrs were more mid range hp 90-140hp Suzuki Honda Yamaha. Have your oil check by an oil analyst. Next time around 175 hours on a oil change shorten the oil changes up around 350 Change it have it tested
Oils engine oil and especially lower unit oil are done every two weeks since they are full goo rpm 7 days a week and I wanna make sure oil isn’t running low and water is not getting into the lower. Also since they are a rental the lower unit oil and engine oil gets cooked often because people run aground and they are used so much. I try to have my commercial account flip motors every 3 years since the motors are toast by that point and it’s expensive to maintain a motor with 1500+ hrs

Great advise, proper service can make your engine last 20 years. Do it yourself is the only was to go

Definitely change the oil every 250hours. Every 500 hours change all the filters / gear lube / impellers etc.
Great content love the channel

Kinda off topic, what do you think of running your washdown pump into the flush out port for a limp home, during an impeller failure.
