LOL I actually discovered barbershop in Uni when I auditioned to play Harold Hill for The Music Man. Hence my first multitrack "Lida Rose". Make sure you watch the 1962 version with the Buffalo Bills!
2 of my 4 favorite youtube musicians. I can't stop listening to this. I hope to cover this myself some day and hope it can be half as good as this is!!
It most definitely was the hardest arrangement we had the pleasure of singing before. But when it all comes together, it doesn't matter how many hours we had to work to get it perfect. It's all worth it. Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you very much for writing in my defence, Dieter. You are a true friend, I really appreciate it!! Kyle, I'm very sorry man, I had a talk about it with Rhett as well. But there's a difference between singing+autotuning and singing the same line for hours till it's perfect before going on to the next one. Mixing that with your own voice might make it sound robotic, but it is all me. I do, however, agree on the fact that there's way to much autotune involved in YT multitracking nowadays!!
This is the most beautiful compliment a musician can get. The only thing music should be able to do is move people in a positive direction. I'm glad we were able to do that for you. Thanks for stopping by!!
As a higschool choir singer, I feel this. Not to toot my own horn but our choir is pretty good, but in our practices it's like people are computer-calibrated to start talking 5.05373 milliseconds after the directors start instructing lol That aside, the piece sounds amazing with great energy all around!
I thought exactly the same. The AOH is absolutely the best thing ever, but when you hear it by four singers, you can really hear everything and you find out things you hadn't heard before :). Thanks for stopping by Tim!
I was addicted to the video from Ambassadors of Harmony...now i can't stop listening to this! This is so freaking good. You and Rhett blend amazingly. Just mind-blowing.
You have no idea how much that means to me! Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our 76 trombones. We wouldn't have been able to do this without your amazing version of this :). I loved yours as well, so we're even ;).
Stunning!!! I don't know what that person was talking about with pitch correction. Neither of these guys needs it. Ever. Period. Everything was so crisp and clean, and the overtones are SCREEEEEEAMIN'!! You guys rocked it. As always...
Thank you very much for the many, many kind words Gabe! You are too kind :). Thanks a lot for stopping by. I hope you'll like the videos I've got lined up for the coming months as well :)
Sonny Vande Putte You are really amazing!! :o Favourite TH-camr :D Are u really using Falsetto in this video? Or just head voice? I mistake them so often. Really drives me mad ;D
james1098778910 What Gabe Scott said is seen as correct by some and seen as incorrect by others. It all depends on how you approach your voice as an instrument. I don't see falsetto and head voice as two different things. I don't even use the terms head voice and chest voice, because it makes singing very restrictive in my opinion. But if I get going on the subject, I'll won't be done writing within the next hour :)
Thanks so much, this is fab. Wonderful singing, and brilliant acting with so much detail - your voices, faces and gestures. And the long high held notes, wow! This must have taken hours and hours to get right, but what a result. Bravi!
Harolid Hill (the so-called "music man" in the musical) sings a song to the the Iowan villagers called "Ya Got Trouble": the song is about how dangerous it is for them to have a pool table, how it will eventually push their youngsters into deprivation, sex and alcohol, and how they should instead buy his marching band instruments and form a band. One of the recurring lyrics in the song is: "Trouble with a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for 'pool'!". :)
Wow. There are times, when listening to barbershop performances, that I have been quite thankful to have heard them. Then there are the very precious few times when I have been thankful for my ability to hear at all, and this qualifies as one of them. The work that went into this performance has obviously paid off quite handsomely. I can not cite even one imperfection, and am taken aback by the overall quality of both sound and performance that is on display here. Unless anything better (is that even possible?) comes along, this will now be my go-to piece whenever anyone asks me "So, heard any great barbershop lately?" Kudos for the awesomeness!
We did indeed spend countless hours in this one. It's a lot of hard work (more than most people might think), so I'm glad you appreciate how far we went to get this one down :). Thank you so very, very much for the many kind words. It brought a smile on my face :). Take care, Mike!
It's really all about taking the work seriously and trying to get it dead on from the first time. It's a good thing that Rhett works really clean, because I'm kind of a perfectionist. So even though these projects are difficult, The difference between 'smooth sailing' and 'cursing like sailor' depends on the people you choose to work with. We did review each others audio, but for the video, I just recorded mine and added some 'show' moves and Rhett did a great job aligning his with mine :).
Sometimes you might hear more than four voices, because of the overtones. But it's actually the amazing arrangement that makes it so gigantic. David Wright is the freakin' man!!
There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to properly describe this performance. Foremost is how well matched your two voices are, which sets the stage for the many screamin' overtones you guys produce"
Can't tell you how many times I have seen the Music Man, definitely one of my favorite musicals of all time :) Nothing like the Buffalo Bills! That's CLASSIC barbershop
I just finished my four performances in High School as Professor Harold Hill. it was so much fun and i keep finding myself at this video now... awesome.
Sonny, my experience with the AOH version was nearly identical to yours, except that I had been grieving so deeply for the loss of a beloved Sweet Adelines friend that I had lost my taste for barbershop. . . so I THOUGHT. They blew me away 5 years ago; you just did it again. Hearing/seeing 2 men recreate that stunning arrangement, capturing all of the energy and exuberance effervescing from the assembled AOH, has left me breathless, tears stinging my eyes. Bravissimo!
(Continued. I got so excited I pushed the "Done" button early!) The vowel matching is dead-on accurate, every chord exquisitely aligned. Plus, the thrilling momentum is dizzying. Bravura performance in every possible respect. I hope there's another collaboration in the near future. Kudos, gentlemen!
No, but you need to understand that I was actually there. There in the square!! IT WAS ME!! Give me your email address and I'll write you a more detailed version of what occured the day I was there. Because I was :)
You are incredibly talented, and I hope you realize what your doing for the people who have an ear for what you're singing... Please don't ever stop creating...
OMG! That was absolutely fantastic! I can't tell you how many times I've watched the AOH's contest video of this, but this is the very first time I've been able to hear the arrangement for what it is. You just can't hear all the chords in the chorus video. This is just incredible. Great job guys! More please...
I don't really like the idea of ranking people in the Arts, it necessarily implies there will be losers. I'd rather emulate a community effort to create and cross-promote. :)
Thank you very much man!! I'm so glad you like the things I upload. I really love Realtime as well and I can't tell you how many times I've listened to their 2005 sets. AMAZING!! Thanks for the suggestion!
I have listened to the AOH version probably a hundred times and I love it! It was FANTASTIC to hear this in 4 voices!!!! WOW! I'd say you have raised the bar for collabs!!!!! That's going to be tough to beat!
Wow dude, you're a hero :). So nice you took the time to comment! We're gonna need some more guys for the choreo and the costume change is never gonna be as epic as yours :D. Great job dude and THANK YOU for being part of my great inspiration :).
Even after almost a year I honestly have to say this is THE most beautiful A capella music video ever, your just such a damn talented tenor one day I hope to be as good as you
This is absolutely FANTASTIC!!!! Bravo to you and the other fellow who sang Bari and Bass. I can't stop listening. Can't wait to see what you have in store next.
I can't speak for the reverb but I can absolutely assure you that Sonny would rather kill himself than use pitch correction. There are indeed many cheaters out there who attribute the robotic sound to the effect of layering the same voice, but I'm confident this is exactly what's happening here. There's no way for me to convince you other than that I know Sonny in person as a fantastic singer and a 100% honest man. I've heard him sing live and complain about cheaters live too. It's all real.
Totally and utterly and stunningly AWESOME. It's a massive 110% big fat YES from us!! I want to do this with my daughter. I'm going to look for the arrangement. More!!!
I can do that because of the countless hours of solitude in my room, practising my breathing and breath support and singing in general, while my friends were out partying :D. I can hold a note for 30+ seconds, but I'm a very lonely man ;).
Feel free to click that replay button as much as you like :D. Glad to read, you like this so much. What a killer arrangement!! David Wright is the king :)
I was professor Harold Hill in the music Man for my school musical and I remember everyone telling my how amazing I was at singing and acting. It changed my life!
Wow, you two are on FIRE lately! Each and every time I've watched this song sung by the Ambassadors I've thought "this can't be done by a single quartet without screwing it big". Guys, I was VERY wrong, and I'm terribly happy to be. Please keep up the original song choices and the amazing-collabs-that-complement-each-other's-range-so-beautifully-it's-hard-to-believe.
So I watched this video preparing to be amazed, and how do you hold the note for so long, Came here from the Julien's channel. You're awesome bro. Keep at it :)'
That chune was one that we learned in primary school (late 70s or early 80s). It came to mind at this late hour and TH-cam obliged. What a fantastic rendition, and I say this as a twin who cannot duplicate his sister.
So I know I have commented on like twenty of your vids in the past week but this one was just too good!!! Seriously seriously impressed with not only Rhett (he is an absolute beast of a bass and a very nice role model) but man sonny those high notes l had goodbumps! Just incredible!
Haha please don't feel weird over commenting on my videos :D. My ego loves it when people throw kind words my way :D. Thanks so much for the compliments, man! Rhett is indeed a beast :D
Awesome job! You really nailed it. The blend really makes justice to a great arrangement. As you say, the 2009 AoH rendition of this piece's got to be one of the most enjoyable vocal performances ever. Keep it up!
I know the feeling. I had the exact same thing when I first saw the AOH version. I'm so glad to hear somebody else got so excited watching our version of it :). Thanks man!!
I am a really big fan of barber shop acappella sonny nice work you do and very angelic voice you have i especialy LOVE the cover you did with danwright32 and *****
I am addicted to the AOH version as well!! Please don't stop watching that :). We don't want to be the reason you stop watching the amazing videos by the Ambassadors of Harmony. Those guys are the best :D. Thanks for the comment!!
Sonny, I was one of the men BLESSED to be on the risers that day with the AOH. I'm honored and humbled you chose THIS song. And Yes, it WAS a blast to perform. It appears you found that out for yourself. GREAT JOB!!! BTW... let me know when you finish the choreo and costume change. ;>) lol.
Auch nach zwei Jahren hör ichs immernoch rauf und runter....und inzwischen krieg ichs sogar hin, den Ton so lange zu halten, wie Du, Sonny...erstklassig! (Sry for writing german...my english is not that good actually)
that seventh chord at :48 was amazing...still making my ears ring! absolutely love everything you are doing sonny! you should do a multi track of the story of the rose and not the old boring arrangement. do the one that real time did in the 2005 championships!
In the description of this video, you can find that this is Rhett Roberts. You can watch his videos on youtube as well, check the description for his channel!!
Bedankt Jens!! David Wright is inderdaad een living legend. Die Chinese gong is inderdaad supergoed geschreven. Chinese dong is jammer genoeg is compleet anders, vrees ik ;).
For years now I’ve been coming back every now then to this really fun song. Keep up the good work 😄
Wow, that kicked some serious butt! Way to go guys!
👍Go Boys!
TH-cam needs a standing ovation button; that is exactly what I did at the end of the video. Wilson would be so proud!
LOL I actually discovered barbershop in Uni when I auditioned to play Harold Hill for The Music Man. Hence my first multitrack "Lida Rose". Make sure you watch the 1962 version with the Buffalo Bills!
Great quartet! Now you're only missing 76 trombones, 110 coronets, 1000 reed instruments...
Tell me about it... :)
Sonny Vande Putte also 50 mounted cannons in the battery...
2 of my 4 favorite youtube musicians. I can't stop listening to this. I hope to cover this myself some day and hope it can be half as good as this is!!

You should see my energy in between takes... It's less pleasant to watch :D.

Man, the intonation on that final chord blew me away. This is fantastic!
+Damascus Steel I'm glad you like it!! Thanks for stopping by :)
What a great ensemble you four... er two.... make! Such power! Loved it :)
Sonny, you are truly gifted. You have good Falsetto and Just your normal voice. Your range and air is amazing. You are Awesome
Thank you very much for the many, many kind words Gabe! You are too kind :). Thanks a lot for stopping by. I hope you'll like the videos I've got lined up for the coming months as well :)

Sometimes you might hear more than four voices, because of the overtones. But it's actually the amazing arrangement that makes it so gigantic. David Wright is the freakin' man!!
Yup, I'm a huge fan as well!! This one is my all time favorite by 'em. Their version was face melting good :). Thanks for stopping by.
Being in a band helps to understand what the singer is trying to convey.
Watching the Music Man also helps to understand what the singer is trying to convey.
that too
There aren't enough superlatives in the English language to properly describe this performance. Foremost is how well matched your two voices are, which sets the stage for the many screamin' overtones you guys produce"

Sounds cool, Brett! I'd love to play Professor Harold Hill :). Unfortunately I don't do theater, so that'll never happen. Thanks for stopping by!!
Sonny Vande Putte "Sergeant Sonny," you don't have to "do" theater -- you ARE theater!
Haha exactly. They blend so wondefully!! One of the best quartets ever!
...and if there was a barbershop contest on TH-cam you could even win with this masterpiece ;)
Huge props to the both of you for this crisp and tight rendition of what sounds like a seriously difficult arrangement.
It sure is! Thanks so much for the kind words!

How did i possibly miss this video??? Amazing harmony ... again!
I remember singing this in a musical a few years ago! The Music Man!
Thank you very much!! We put our hearts and souls in this project. It wasn't easy :). Please share if you really love it :).
Again you wow me. Your range I'd incredible. So few tenors can cover their tones in head and chest like you can
Wow! That was as exciting as hearing (and watching) the Ambassadors do it.
Sheesh okay we get it, you were there. No need to rub it in our faces
No, but you need to understand that I was actually there. There in the square!! IT WAS ME!! Give me your email address and I'll write you a more detailed version of what occured the day I was there. Because I was :)
I wish you were my music teacher.
Haha thanks man. I appreciate that :)
I was there, too! I was one of the trombone players.

Seriously Sonny, it's unfair how good you are. Rhett too, you're both so talented! This is AMAZING!
Still watching in 2019 and still amazed. Excellent work guys!
Thanks a lot, Martín!
Even after almost a year I honestly have to say this is THE most beautiful A capella music video ever, your just such a damn talented tenor one day I hope to be as good as you
Haha thanks so much, John. I really do appreciate it.

Amazing vocals. I haven't read any of the comments because all I wanted to hear was a good barbershop quartet sing 76 trombones. Absolutely awesome!
Haha thanks so much! I really appreciate it a lot :D
I totally agree on the uniform changes. We thought about how we could integrate it in the video, but it was just to damn difficult!!
That was incredible. SO SO tight. Great work guys!
As a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society. I really appreciate this track. Keep going!
I can do that because of the countless hours of solitude in my room, practising my breathing and breath support and singing in general, while my friends were out partying :D. I can hold a note for 30+ seconds, but I'm a very lonely man ;).
Just shared your fab video W a friend who turns 76 today... love your videos Sonny!!
Wow...Never get tired of listening to this one.
Feel free to click that replay button as much as you like :D. Glad to read, you like this so much. What a killer arrangement!! David Wright is the king :)
Wow, that's really nice of you! It's comments like these that make me smile. I'm glad I'm giving something the people can enjoy. Thank you so much.
Loaded it on my Mobile Phone, listen to it as long as i can, so now i can sing the whole song without mistakes :) Great Job!!
I watched you in Juliens videos and had to come to your channel. Your voice is truly one of the best (if not the best) I've ever heard!
The final note gave me chills...a chordasm, if you will. Great job!
Wow this song is fantastic! Always love watching you videos...so inspiring to singers everywhere.
This song was never very high on my list of songs i like , You just changed that..Brilliant.
Haha awesome :D. Thanks so much for the kind words :D
I was professor Harold Hill in the music Man for my school musical and I remember everyone telling my how amazing I was at singing and acting. It changed my life!
Awesome, man! Good for you!
each bassoon having it's big, fat say! - love that lyric
This was quite a renditions and the dificulty has got to be up there in the clouds. Well done
So I watched this video preparing to be amazed, and how do you hold the note for so long, Came here from the Julien's channel. You're awesome bro. Keep at it :)'
Just so talented. It’s unreal.
Haha you're just so kind. It's unreal as well :D. Thanks for stopping by, David!
It truly sounds like a whole band, very, very well done.
That chune was one that we learned in primary school (late 70s or early 80s). It came to mind at this late hour and TH-cam obliged. What a fantastic rendition, and I say this as a twin who cannot duplicate his sister.
Haha thanks so much, Tim!
How did you hold those notes so steady for that long? you left me completely amazed. Great job!
Keep it up!
Thanks a lot, Sergio! Depending on what 'it' is, I will ;)
I know the feeling. I had the exact same thing when I first saw the AOH version. I'm so glad to hear somebody else got so excited watching our version of it :). Thanks man!!
Hey Tracy, thank you so much!! Very brave of you to do this one with your daughter!! Good luck with it!
No problem at all! I hope you find great success with your voice. You have an amazing gift, and I hope you continue to use it!
Thanks a lot! I appreciate it. You are hereby granted a 1'000'000 replay voucher. 3 2 1, GO!
BRAVO!!! KUDOS to you both for an exceptional performance! !LoveD It! ♡
What a FUN-tastic rendering!!! Amazing, truly amazing...
OMG! This jaw-dropping offering is awesome! Guys, GREAT JOB! You took a wonderful song and shot the moon with your version! THANK YOU!
Thanks so much for your very kind words, Marilyn!
I was breathless, till the end! Fantastic performance "music men"
I am a really big fan of barber shop acappella sonny nice work you do and very angelic voice you have i especialy LOVE the cover you did with danwright32 and *****
I am addicted to the AOH version as well!! Please don't stop watching that :). We don't want to be the reason you stop watching the amazing videos by the Ambassadors of Harmony. Those guys are the best :D. Thanks for the comment!!
Thanks Sonny, I listen to this video weekly (sometimes daily especially when travelling internationally).
That cool, man! Thank you very much for the comment!!
Very upbeat, well done by the two of you and of course it is a great arrangement.
The arrangement is 95% of the project man. It's just about singing the right notes and looking a little enthusiastic :). David Wright is the king!
Mercy. Every time I hear something from Sonny, I get more and more impressed. I need to find a choir to join so I can get in on some of this action.
this is amazingly done.

In the description of this video, you can find that this is Rhett Roberts. You can watch his videos on youtube as well, check the description for his channel!!
Wow. Now I need to listen to this again with my good headphones. Crazy good.
Haha awesome. Thanks so much for the kind words!
Adding that to my music playlist. That was amazing.
I'm glad you enjoyed that!
amai dit is goed gezongen.......en die David Wright, wat een held. Zo van die kleine details zoals "Chinese Gong", echt. Brilliant!
Bedankt Jens!! David Wright is inderdaad een living legend. Die Chinese gong is inderdaad supergoed geschreven. Chinese dong is jammer genoeg is compleet anders, vrees ik ;).
