I just found this. I am shocked that an HOA demanded paint jobs of the entire ole community. That is alarming. But you know, Hurricane Ian just came through here. My HOA is demanding paint jobs for owners with insurance claims pending. Why? Because their board attorney told the manager to do it. How do you even determine a paint job is needed unless the exterior is either covered in mold or the paint has been ripped away? It becomes a feeding frenzy for HOA boards and their attorneys through fines and the foreclosures.

Weather or not an HOA actually does increase home values depends greatly on perspective marketing. If a lot of people think an HOA brings value, they will pay extra for it & that will increase a homes value but on that same token, if people can't stand living under an HOA & don't buy into them, they will lose value. Personally, I wouldn't buy from an HOA because I don't like the idea of an HOA having the legal right to fine & kicking me out of my home over minor desputes but I know the whole market doesn't feel the same as me because HOAs are still quite popular with some people. Personally I feel if I want to increase my homes value, I should focus on setting the example for my neighborhood & work to improve my own property. My neighbors property is there issue, not mine. If my neighbor wants to live in a trash heap, I don't think it's my place to stop them. I live in America & I think part of having personal freedom is that people should have the right to live as they please as long as there not breaking any laws.

Even though I kept my home with a nice curb appeal that was well maintained, here comes a few neighbors that has been living there before me and one decided to buy a large camper that was parked on the freaking driveway and one neighbor painted the house mustard yellow with weeds growing like a fucking jungle. I can't imagine how their inside homes were like but all the neighbors complained to the city and nothing was done. Maybe small fines but that's it. Then I lived there but it was a fucking eye sore. I then sold my house, purchased a brand new sweet looking home in a gated community in Ladera Ranch that has HOA...yes HOA bc I didn't want a damn neighbor parking their RV or neighbor to paint their house mustard yellow. The fees are a bit high but I wouldn't be living here if I can't afford it....right bruh! Now I come home and see beautiful homes with nice curb appeal!

I've always wondered how much power a HOA really has. They seem to put fines for all sorts of things that sometimes are even considered normal activities in some areas.
Read the covenant associated with the title. It runs with the title that is if the title changes hands the new owner enjoys the benefits and suffers the consequences of the covenant. Although some people vow never to purchase a home that is under the wing of a HOA, there are not so many as to cause a significant reduction in value. Moreso if residents have access to a HOA run tennis court, swimming pool, etc.
In my parent's HOA they were NOT allowed to touch, repair, hang an awning etc. In fact, my parents had to move out of their condo for 5 months due to hurricane roof damage and leaks that my parents were NOT allowed to fix via their own contractors, but had to wait for the HOA's contractors
Why not just rent a home if you want to be micromanaged? Then THEY have to paint the home if they want it painted and THEY have to repair it if it damages the stucco. Trust me. Anything that goes on in a non-hoa neighborhood is preferable to dealing with these corrupt busybodies. Don't do it. The walls of the house technically belong to the HOA which is the only reason the HOA can tell them what color to paint them but since it belongs to them they have to pay for it they can’t make the homeowners pay for it

As Ben stated, HOA helps keep value of the areas. Or at least it's supposed to. A major issue is that the owners never do anything until the people running the HOA really start turning into NAZI types. There aren't many laws to dictate what HOA's have the power to do, so on that aspect it does make me wonder why bother with them.

It seem the paint jobs should be paid for with the exorbitant fees that the HOA collects.
Some of the homes everywhere are made out of stucco and should NOT be painted unless the Homeowners Associations want to pay for damaged stucco homes.
Never buy a home if it has an HOA. Problem solved.

Because no one wants to live in a community that started nice and then was ghettosized by the homeowners. I have a million bad examples. You can always mind your own business but good luck selling your home if you need to. An HOA community is nicer, but unfortunately the managers of these have turned into nazis. They are the problem, not the idea of an HOA.
As Ben stated, HOA helps keep value of the areas. Or at least it's supposed to. A major issue is that the owners never do anything until the people running the HOA really start turning into NAZI types. There aren't many laws to dictate what HOA's have the power to do, so on that aspect it does make me wonder why bother with them.
People who don't like homeowners association one nobody should buy a home in hoa or sell your home and move into a place where you can live happy and free I can't see anybody being happy in ho and I don't understand why anybody even buys a home that is part of hoa
