    The part that bothers me the most is him saying he literally can't read and evaluate a nutritional study because it's too "confusing" and yet he feels qualified to charge people for health and nutrition advice through his coaching programs. That just doesn't sit right.

      Jon just does all the social media advertising his wife Katherine is the one who is the dietician or nutritionist. She does all the cooking and designed the meal plans. I think she’s going along with this because it’s a business decision as he tarnished his reputation, influence and lost money. Her story and reasoning doesn’t add up either.

    He has very clearly made a business decision. His channel was dying with less than 10K views per video despite almost 400K subscribers and he just signed a deal with MyProtein so now he's able to market all of their products, not just the vegan ones. He was never a vegan for the ethics, it was always a business strategy. Now he's going to rake in the views from all the anti-vegan videos he'll be making. Literally his first post on Instagram after quitting veganism is about how it made his skin bad despite him having stated many times over the years that veganism cleared up his skin. I'll bet you anything he's going to try the carnivore diet as well, he already follows a bunch of its greatest defenders on Instagram. Don't get it twisted, Jon Venus is a dishonest liar who's only in it for the money.

    • @sugarplumk2381
      @sugarplumk2381 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @Baun92 I think you could be right about the business decision. I thought it was pressure from others but he’s not a school kid. I mean nobody ever pressured me into anything but some people bow to pressure. I just think at his age he should be more self-confident and own his decisions. So your explanation makes more sense to me now.

      I fully agree that for some people a brand deal is a big incentive to drop veganism since the best sold products out there are whey protein and pre workout! BUT Myprotein has many vegan options compared to most other brands. I'm also sponsored by an even larger supplement brand, Prozis, and selling out for sales didn't even cross my mind, and funny thing, I have the biggest sales in my country across all brands and influencers. I feel like selling out like that is such a petty reason especially since I can guarantee MyProtein ( with which I also have collaborated in the past ) doesn't enforce you to promote specific products.

      Funny thing here is that the more meat eggs and dairy you eat the more estrogens you get hence the more feminine skin you get. Your skin may look smoother but it's because it's collecting more fat, and the anti inflammatory effects. But you could just take estrogen and eat more fats for that look and not worry about eating animals.

      Miss Info
      everything in your statement is incorrect. It takes substantially more food to feed animals for us to eat than it would be for us to just eat plants. 85% of the worlds soybean goes to animal feed. If you want to look into the environmental impact, 80% of deforestation is linked to animal farming according to WWF. While yes, some animals die in the process of growing fruits, vegetables, grains etc. it takes more to feed animals then it would just humans. More animals are killed in the growing of crops for animals then the growing of crops for humans. Vegetables and fruits and whole grains have substantially more nutritional value than animals. Lastly if you would like to look into the ethical treatment of workers in produce farming, you also need to look at the treatment of workers in factory farming and slaughterhouses. If covid19 numbers are not proof enough, look into suicide rates of slaughterhouse workers. It’s heartbreaking.

Sounds like your friends are the toxic ones! What did veganism ever do to your friends? They clearly don't respect you being vegan if they abandoned you when you changed!
    If you will: "My friends found out I started supporting the abolition of slavery, and they respect that. They're good friends. But they don't want to be seen with me because anti-slavery supporters are toxic. It's not good for their *public image*, so now I'm pro-slavery again. It's the sugar industry that's the worst. They are much richer. That's why virtually every health related organization promotes grains and demonizes meat, the sugar industry sponsors them at a much greater rate than dairy or meat. Take for example - in the 1960s the US government told society about the link between saturated fat and heart disease, but left out the link discovered between sucrose and heart disease, because many sugar industry companies were sponsoring them and told the government not to release that fact. They will always win in the end, vegans need to understand it's not just meat and dairy that influence studies.

      "treat ALL people with dignity and respect" - All people, huh, do all people deserve respect by default ?(obviously there is a basic "respect" which should apply to not just humans, but that is more a neutral position rather than a position of respect on an individual level) If we go a couple of steps further, it must also include murderers, rapists etc. If you truly mean all. Since I went vegan almost 9 months ago the biggest challenge for me sticking with it has been how my social life has been impacted, i.e. having to bring my own food to gatherings, not being invited to things because a restaurant has no options for me, etc. I think a big part of this is that food service and other aspects of society aren't fully willing to accomodate vegans yet and this may lead to feeling like you occupy a different world from your non-vegan peers. Actually talking about the social challenges that come with being vegan could be a really cool topic for a video. At least I know I'd love to see it.

    I don't know if anyone else noticed but something seemed to be off with Jon Venus for the past couple of years.
    He used to really wear his veganism on his sleeve where he's promote it heavily on his channel. He even did humorous response videos to anti-vegan comments and he really seemed proud to be a vegan.
    Then he started to really downplay the veganism and even went so far as to say he preferred to be plant based. Even after he reverse coursed on this his video content was very PC, like he went out of his way not to say anything to controversial; he may as well have no longer been a vegan channel.
    I'm not surprised at all he quit veganism considering, it feels like he's been transitioning out of it for a while now.

    If some of his fellow vegan influencers have made a choice not to hang out with him, or have him in their videos anymore I can understand that. Having a non-vegan in your vegan content could send a mixed message to your followers and when your income depends on it. If your not rich (most vegan TH-camrs aren't) then that could be a big risk.
    As far as his friends ditching him, I can kinda get this too. If you believe a person shares your ethics but then they reverse themselves on those ethics and won't give a good argument for WHY they're ignoring the ethics you thought you shared, that can be very confusing and hurtful. Should you kick everyone out of your life who doesn't share your ethics... No probably not, there's only room for growth when there's also room for conflict. However, the feeling of betrayal, anger, and hurt that you may feel in response to a friend's revelation regarding abandoning shared ethics could lead you to make decisions about your friendship that cause a relationship to dissolve.
    Basically, I can understand why he's hurt by his friends' reactions. Relationships ending, no matter how or why, is usually really painful and this situation certainly doesn't cast the vegan community in a good light. Still, I'm sure his friends are just as hurt by his decision to not honor the ethics they thought they shared.

      Maybe they just didn't want to hang out with an anti-science hypocrite, and it had nothing to do with their "image". Jon and Katrine did a Q and A when their son was born and were asked their opinion on vaccines. They gave a fluff answer implying they didn't vaccinate their child, but now they suddenly care about his health? Katrine also follows (or used to, I unfollowed her ages ago) an anti-vax advocate on instagram. Now Jon is saying peer reviewed studies don't matter or statements from offical health organizations can't be believed because they might have bias? He's so dumb he hardly has two braincells to rub together but he thinks he's enlightened and more intelligent than everyone else because he "thinks a lot about things". He's the definition of a Himbo.

      He has proved to be untrustworthy to his friends and when he revealed he was eating eggs, it caused backlash not just to him but also to those he associated with. On the other hand, I can also see how the Violife ambassadors might have been told to break ties with Jon Venus. And if the dollar is more important than the friendship, then I can see how that's hurtful to him.

      I agree with what you say about fellow influencers distancing themselves. That is business and that’s how it works.
      I completely disagree with your statement that you find friends ditching him understandable. If you are hurt by another person’s ethical stances, then you are not respecting their boundaries and that means you haven’t been friends in the first place. I am rather puzzled how anyone would be dumb enough to believe someone to be their friend who ditches them based on a dietary decision. Apparently Jon is not convinced of the ethical superiority of a vegan diet, he seems to be scared, maybe confused, maybe pressured, and so that is his reality and a friend respects that by default. Unless you are a pathological narcissist or some other personality disordered individual with an inability to to distinguish the self from others, you are not hurt by a friends personal choices and convictions. I think it is important to stress that to anyone outside of the vegan community, the idea of ditching a friend for not being vegan anymore sounds completely crazy. I believe, Erica, that it is attitudes such as these, the my way or the highway entitlement while operating out of the position of being only a radical minority is what damages the image of veganism massively and sabotaged its progression into mainstream. Would you only be friends with people who share your exact same belief system and if so, how do you think veganism can ever make its way into the mainstream? It is the positive actions, the cooking a really nice vegan meal for a friend, the showing people the game changers, telling about all the good things of being vegan and lead by example that win over people’s minds. Not shaming and harassing people, betraying friends, and the likes. Unless your goal is a violent vegan power grab and ostracizing and incarcerating non-vegans.

      @vfta7906 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Southy at the time it wasn’t, the idea that they could be murdered was widely mocked and dismissed in exactly the same way you dismiss animals being murdered. At the end of the day there is still someone that did nothing wrong and that wants to live being forced into a gas chamber, being shot in the head and having their throat sliced open. Feel free to call it whatever makes you feel better.

    • @vfta7906
      @vfta7906 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Southy yes you use euphemisms for killing, also your analogy is fallacious, “is me going down the road and shooting some random person in the face the same as me shooting a kangaroo on my land to provide food for me and my dog?” That is false equivalence. Try this “is me going down the road and shooting a person to provide food for me and my dog the same as shooting a kangaroo to provide food for me and my dog?” At least that is logically equivalent. The only difference is that laws protect the humans. Kangaroos, cows chickens and pigs are all fair game. You will not be prosecuted for taking the life of the animals. But to that animal, does it value its life any less than the human? Do you have a right to take it when you could easily eat something else? Again either way their is an individual that does not want to die versus your ego, your convenience and your wants. It is very easy to avoid unnecessary harm and you make that choice three times every day. Peace begins on your plate.

    • @vfta7906
      @vfta7906 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Southy just because I destroyed your nonsense you fall back on you can’t tell me what to do. The point is you don’t care about animals and never will, you “love” your dog but that’s it. Everything else can die. I made no assumptions that weren’t true.

    I always look forward to your videos; they are so thorough.
    I like your point about family pressure. I am a mother of 3 kids; since I do the cooking, my husband and children also eat plant based. But outside of my immediate family unit, my parents and others have given some push back. For instance my mom will almost always offer or put put at least one animal product when we visit, and family dinners are always standard American (/Canadian). My younger sister has made some not quite genuine, almost condescending, comments about my "commitment and dedication to what I believe in". Luckily although my twin sister isn't plant based, she is supportive and has my back when shots get fired lol
    I feel you on the family pressures. It is also a point that I hadn't heard suggested in the other videos I had watched on this issue. Thanks Mic

    everything aside, it really bugs me some people think they are somewhat important enough to "coach" others with no actual qualification. just because they post pretty pics on social media and talk whatever on camera.
    i've seen myka stauffer drama this week for the first time and ermahgerd, she talks like a child, posts her children and thinks she is doing a -- great service to the humanity -- with her baby voice & clearly unhealthy, immature mindset.
    jon is the same. his 'pep talks' were ridiculous. dude, there are a ton of people out there doing a great job about anything you need. you keep lifting those weights and yo-yo dieting. he had sold enough vegan themed shirts I guess, now gotta sell whey bRoteIn powder, cuz b12 tho.
    your brother has more legit advice on nutrition (duh he's md at least) also guys like brian turner is better resource for vegan bodybuilding than your look obsessed, vlog themed channel anyway

  • @PavelBarber
    @PavelBarber 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Thanks for this it was a great breakdown.
    It's funny because he references so little in the video, and the things he chose to reference were vegan sponsored studies (which I'm not sure is even true) and the judgmental vibe from the vegan community.
    1) The meat and dairy industry have been funding & cherry picking studies for years and they are far more guilty of that.
    2) I've honestly never felt so judged than when I became vegan 6 years ago. I'm sure there's judgemental ppl on both sides, but I never noticed it when I ate animal products but now that I'm vegan whenever it's brought up (and I avoid it as much as possible because of this) I'm faced with an incredible amount of judgement from mostly uneducated people.
    Lastly I don't really see how you can be a fan of someone like this whether you consume animal products or not. The way he went into veganism he boasted about it being for the animals and how he couldn't believe what they were doing to them, then talked about environmental impacts etc. Now none of that seems to matter and he doesn't even come close to giving a convincing point as to why he's going in this direction.
    And worse, we all know that now this will be used as a reference to show how you "can't last on a vegan diet." *Despite the fact that tons of people are at that nutritionally speaking you can get everything you need so long as you supplement B12.
