... the most amazing thing is not only the contents of what he's saying but the permanent smile he has tattooed on his face ... !!! ... that helps a lot ... !!!
One of the greatest conversations that every human being should listen to. I wish I listened to it 6 years ago! Why did only 1 thousand people listen to this conversation? Thank you William Ury
In respect to the need of going through a dark period, in order to grow into the positive version of oneself. I would say it is not necessary. I believe I have reached (or that I'm working towards it) this level of personal perspective. I'm happy to say it is because of people like you two. Keep up the amazing work and know here is one more example of how you're making a positive change in the world. ✌️
As some one who is looking into Systemic Coaching, I am very pleased with this talk. As you call up the dark hours that initiate changes, I remember a statement that "biologic systems tend to keep their behaviour until they get stuck in a crisis. Then, just then they try a change, not before". So do we, do I. Thank you very much for this inspiring talk. Axel Funke
Oh and Ury, i very much enjoyed your insights too. I find you very much remind me of Don Miguel Ruiz, and the toltec wisdom. The Four Agreements are something everyone should strive to understand. Be impeccable with your word. (Words are so powerful, but remember In the beginning was the word and the word was with "God". Knowing that all thought can be associated to a high or low vibratory frequency, the words we choose are soooo important. Those vibeation feilds of thought woukd logically resonate our body to either a higher or lower dimension, or bring a living state of 'heaven' or hell) thoughts become things, and where attention goes energy flows. Don't take anything personally.nothing others do js because of you. Ego makes us take the action of others personally, when in actuality what we see in others is but a projection of what we judge within our own subconscious. Don't make assumptions. We dont know what another persons why is.. We must always be indifferent until we have asked for clarification. One must not form their opinion of a situation until both sides have been objectivly heard. Always keeping in mind to be kind for everyone you meet is fighting an inner battle we know nothing about. Always do your best. If one is giving their best, then even if they fail, there shouldn't be any self loathing. If i fail at something but i know i did the best then to me its not a failure, only a ruling out of a system that wont work. Its not a failure, now we know that way wont work and we can move forward with a different approach. Hopefully im conveying this in the right way, im only 30 but ive had a very large spectrum of experience, being on voth ends of nearly every situation.. Been above been below and find i like the baseline, the true gray area. Que sera sera whatever will be will be, or give it to God and keep the faith and hope that in the end, everything will be fine. A wizard is never late! He arrives precisely when he means to after all!
I have yet to read the book (though have now added it to my reading list), but your discussion is reminiscent with military folks who get deployed. I've often you cannot get deployed to a warzone and NOT come back a different person. Sometimes that difference is profound, and sometimes it's much more personal. You talk about opening your mind. Being deployed forces you to confront biases and attitudes that were previously tolerated and unchallenged. I came back with a significant (and positive) attitude adjustment after a couple deployments. I hope your book can resonate with those who may not have the forcing function of a deployment to look inward and can help them more clearly see their place in the bigger picture.
I really enjoyed this one. So Simon, i totally relate to what you said where the common factor in failed relationships... Has been our self. It's taken me a long time to realize that wherever I've been unhappy, no matter how diverse the various partnerships i have chosen, i always bring me with me haha. So its been a challenge to push the ego aside and not place myself as a mere victim of circumstance, but take accountability as an active cause of the disharmony. Nobody wants to admit they're blocking their own way, and it's extra challenging over the course of gaining those insights when the other party in the failing relationship doesn't think they are ever wrong or they want you to also be the reason for their shortcomings. It's kind of like for me.. Im learning to value the friendship and civility more than the fleeting satisfaction of winning the argument or being "right". If that makes any sense.. Because regardless of how i emotionally associate something, the situation gives no care, because it is what it is regardless. Ive also come to this realization that can even is a way be considered my theory of God, Or Truth, is that it needs nothing to believe in it or accept it. You can be good or evil, light or dark, happy or sad, but the situation is both and neither at the same time. Its the gray area in the church of the Jedi..yes real thing Jedism. Which i think is brilliant. The force is what it is.. the constant... The "i am that i am". So truth, or the baseline of the situation, is the middle ground. As above so below, but ever present is thw baseline that is not attached to eirher polarity. Thus the opinions of either party labled by the ego ... which MUST associate the outcomes as either a polarity of yes or no... good or bad right or wrong, must be made to stop and view things from an objective, not self serving perspective. We must learn to acccept the present moment as though we have chosen it for ourselves. Any resistance to things is going to create imbalance upon being labled, because without the light we wouldn't know what darkness is. Im learning this.. Cause i am neurotic and struggle with wanting to control ALL of my life situations... My learning has been to learn to be submissive or consenting to the present moment... Learning to let go of the need to control and manage. I never again will assign anything to am absolute, only the sith deal in absolute jaha im a nerd i know, but i believe in the fluidity and changing form of energy. That which never stops, is only transferred. It is in motion, allowing change and growth through each experiemce. Sometimes accepting without lableing is all u can do with the cards you've been dealt, and keep in mind like the Grateful Dead say.. Sometimes the cards aint worth a dime, if you dont lay them down. Sometimes you're flush and sometimes you're bust, and when you're up, it's never as good as it seems, and when you're down, you never think you'll be up again, but life goes on. Kinda rambled there but i hope i conveyed the thought appropriately.
Very satisfying to know how to diffuse a difficult situation by very basic human-to-human conversation. It will be interesting to know what those 39 thumbs-down (till date) want to say otherwise.
Thank you for sharing the art of changing your own mind. i was in turmoil because i fail to see the wall existed in all my relationships. Then, I decide that if I can change my mind, I can just lead the conversation to the point where they had to accept that I was never wrong. I finally feel right again. They have put up the wrong why as a defense and it kill the brainstorming session.. I am tired of making sense to people that see the life as a glass half empty..
Love this conversation and series of interaction. There is one additional weird comment that I have, just wanted to let Simon know, it is 'Swag Bag' - bag-of-swagger gear, not Schwag Bag, which is a low grade bag of weed. Not to distract from the awesomeness and praise I have for so many other parts, but wanted to help him with that if I could- for the future interviews.
Dear Mr. URY. I was an interpreter for you when you came to Venezuela at the time of having the Oil Industry Stoppage (with Governor of State of Zulia). You told me then that Venezuela was far from being an issue to the rest of the world. I had never live a war until now. Can you tell me how to read of this paticular subject from your own perspective? I attended the private dinner at the Governor's House. Since then, I am a follower.
What has kept me from quitting my dream is exactly what Mr Ury touches on, (BATNA) that I will take care of my own needs if I don't receive support for my campaign www.gofundme.com/Jinho
Neither an interview, nor a talk. King of weird. Neither of them is listening, they say random things that absolutely don't make any sense :-/ I like both of them but this meeting went sideways.

Over 100k now!
I always see Simon Sinek gives a speech or being interviewed. This is a conversation and I enjoyed watching these two!
I have recently found these two gentlemen on TH-cam, i wish i could meet either or both. Gentlemen you inspire me.
I've never seen Simon smile and laugh nearly this much! Before this, I think I've seen him lightly giggle a couple years ago.
Really love the last part about the leader who changed first and the whole work place changed. Inspiring. Thank you
This is what kindness looks like
love Simon Sinek. His smile is contagious...:)
Simon and William are the best figures ever!!

You can tell Simon respects him a lot
It would be nice if some of the US gov and military leaders could hear your wisdom!
Great conversation between two genuine people......Ury, Ron Buda - any Hungarian roots?
Cheerful faces!
