It's great to see steam locomotives still doing real work like they're supposed to.

Live across the tracks from hwy 84 at Maydelle. Family homeplace. Never tire of that old whistle.
Tastefully and well done video. Thanks.

I was born in 1943, so that's the sound I grew up hearing in my hometown where the SP and MoP operated. UP's Big Boy came through my old hometown in November and it sounded like a river boat whistle. lol. The diesel and caboose must be news additions, which are great. I was there in 2014 when the Magma steamer was in operation, as well as an early SP alco diesel.
The tank cars are bigger than the engine.

Those oil tanks are much bigger then the tanks it was pulling when the engine was built. Nice video and engine! I really enjoyed watching it. Thanks for sharing it with us.

My husband and I were on that train that day May 26, 2023, we rode in the upper dome car. He was dressed as a US Marshall and I, as saloon keeper (like Miss Kitty from GunSmoke). What an awesome adventure!!!

"AAAAAHHHHH! AAAHHHH! DRIVER, WHAT IS THAT THING?! IT'S NAKED!" screeched the diesel.
"Silly," said his driver, "that's a steam engine. She's part of a legacy."
    "A lego seat?"
"A legacy. She was hauling freight before you were even thought of."
"PEEEEEPEEPEEEEEP!" whistled the steamer. "I'm back again, boys! I'm back again! How are you, young man?"

I had heard that they do pull revenue freight, glad to see that this is true. Is there a schedule for these services or are they Ad Hoc? I would like to get some images of this operation, however as I am usually working and I am unable to photograph the passenger excursions on the weekends so it might be worth making the haul from Houston on a weekday to photograph this magnificent beast.

A piece of machinery from back in time when they didn't needed a sofisticated 250K computer system with 290 sensors to give the message on screen 'The train is not moving', but could just use their eyes and look out the window 'hey Bob, we are not moving!'

I'd hate to say it but I think the age of steam roundhouse doesn't lease their locomotives. Plus I don't think there's an adiquite rail connection between Texas and Ohio for #19 to take. And even if there was it would be an awful long trip for an already worn out locomotive

Dillon Trinh Studios technically it was, the railroad was being paid to store them. So no they weren’t going to a business, the railroad was the business in this case.
