I love these onions in beef stew after they are pickled

I love these pickled pear onions. I’ve done them as refrigerator pickles but never canned for the pantry. I’ve added this to my 2024 canning list. Thanks for the inspiration and recipe link!

Pickel crisp will keep the onions crisp and keep the color as well😊

My step dad put these onions in his drinks, when I was a kid.
But I like the idea of putting them in a beef roast that someone else suggested.

I have bought the pearl onions in the freezer case ..and just pickle one jar at a time for the fridge. Delicious

Oh those look fantastic! So much better homemade as to store bought. I would keep the brine and put it in the fridge with some hard boiled eggs in it and after a week or so you have some nice pickled eggs. I have noticed last few years those pickled onions from the store just are not the same as when we were kids at Christmas time and mom would put out trays of cheese and onions etc. Can be a little time consuming peeling the onions like when I do Frog Balls ( brussel sprouts) but well worth the effort. Kitchen looks great Carter and as always so nice to see you. Cheers!

Hey, Sheila! One of these days, I'm going to have to put on my big girl pants and try a pickled egg! I have no idea why I have this aversion to even trying them, but I think it's high time, don't you?

Thank you Carter. Kitchen looks good. Did you relocate the sink? Love your new backsplash. I know you are ready for it it be complete. Always save my brine never know what you can make. How about soaking mini mozzarella balls for just a short time? Or making a tart/spicy giardiniera. I think a lot of people don't entertain at home because of this "perfect home look" from social media or thinking their food isn't "restaurant" quality. Back in the day everyone brought something for a pot luck and we played cards or games. No one could afford to go out. ha ha We were 27 degrees last night in North Texas. Glad I didn't jump the gun on gardening. Have a great week.

    • @growandpreserve

Good to see you, Donna! The main sink is still in the same place. I added a very small prep sink to the island, primarily so I could wash my hands while cooking. Love your ideas for using the leftover brine! More good things to put on a platter.
I hope entertaining at home will come back. I think we're all more critical of our own homes than others are. We definitely do a semi-potluck here. We have 3 other couples with whom we get together often. The hostess will generally do the main dish, a side and an appetizer. The other 3 couples are responsible for either a second appetizer, a dessert or a salad. Everyone brings what they're drinking. It couldn't be easier or more relaxed. It's certainly far cheaper than going out these days!
You were chilly last night! Glad you held off on the garden too. What's your average last frost date?

Kitchen looks nice but I am sure you are ready for it to be totally done and everything in its new place!... ps.. little side note...
