I think you guys might have focused too much on it being a dueling game and failed to recognize it as an engine builder. The example stated with the 5 card cool down can be drafted around using mana removal effects such as the one in your how to play example. When I play this I draft a card at the beginning and think about how to draft cards that work around it .
Exactly. That's what I thought as well. Thi is a pretty decent card game out there and it's pretty quick to play as well. I consider this a hidden gem out of clutter of games out there. They are pretty low in the radar but the game experience it offer is something that would make you keep playing this game.
I have to disagree here a bit. There are combos in the game that can lead to swings wilder than this. Finding them in the cards that everyone can see is the challenge. This went over really well with the folks I have played with.
This was the hidden gem we got at Origins this year on a whim. We really enjoyed it and I feel there is some pretty neat engine building in it!
I really like this game, and personal love the feeling of the cards. Wayyy better imo than normal cardstock and even better than laminate

For me this game deserves much more attention. You can make some crazy combos and is quick to play.
Indeed. I feel bad that Zee didn't see it that way. This is a hidden gem for sure. BTW, there's a digital version of it in Boardgame Arena (Free) and has an incoming Kickstarter as well. I hope Zee would give it a chance and play it more.

I have been pondering to get this game for about 6 months now, but I am still on the fence now. I would really like to know if there is more than dealing blows and optimizing your only play style for balance between dealing strong blows and reactivating lighter spells more often, like defensive spells, so people can develop a meta. This game will probably benefit from an axpansion introducing some more mechanics.
Just saw this last week and ordered it right away from theri site. Shame I didn't see this during its KS campagin. Now this is our new favorite 2 player game! It feels like if Hero Realms and MTG will have a child this would be it. WotG is a fast and straight forward game.
We would choose this over Hero Realms. All spell cards are unique as well! And on top of this it has a free downloadabe life points tracker where the rulebook is also included in it! Such a great game indeed!
By the way, it has an incoming Kickstarter called Shifting Sands and also available now in BGA for free!
About the market card not moving, we did a simple house rule where a player pays 1 mana card and can reset 1 row (consist of 5 cards) from market and display a new 5 cards from the deck. So far it gives a whole new level of choices.
I'm going to need footage of the duel Zee describes at the end, please.

So you're saying its a balanced game and it comes down to skill on who wins? That's way better than luck based emotional highs and lows where the game determines the winner instead of who's more skilled.
I really enjoy your takes on games. I do have to disagree on a lot of things you said about this game. How can you say poor quality cards. They are very high quality. So high that I have never seen their like. I think you are confused about what is good and bad.
