Oh, it is a good game. Oh, it is a Kickstarter. That probably means a lot of stuff will be unavailable. Oh, the Kickstarter didn't have any exclusives? Looking to buy now.
Kickstarter comes with promos of 3 extra building cards, 3 extra apprentices, 3 new crew cards for Raiders, 5 additional player boards (with extra variable player powers), and walls for the tax stand. All of these you can also buy afterwards anyway. Also kickstarter got discounted metal coins. So nothing exclusive, but several optional extras that others would have to pay for.
I love the little bits that are there from his other games, like kinda needing particular craftsman from Shipwrights, etc, brilliant, can't wait to get it.
During the kickstarter campaign Shem and Sam did a live stream. They played 2 games of 2 player in 40 minutes. Two player is really tense as you are more able to keep track of what the other person is doing. You can also add the bot to make it a 3 player game. In my opinion this game plays well at all player counts, although I prefer more because it is more social and interactive the more people there are. Even at 4 or 5 it is quick (as long as there are no analysis paralysis players). Be aware the first play can be long... but once people know how to play it will rarely go more than an hour.
I generally also love variable player powers. I'd put forth Stockpile as a rare game where I don't think player powers improve the game. Stockpile is otherwise a great game, but I think the optional player powers detract from the experience.
Out of curiosity Tom mentioned in the overview that the game has a solo mode with a special deck. I was wondering how that worked and what they thought of it (if anybody tried it)
Certainly looks like a cool game, but I was wondering if it really is considered a worker placement game. Some of the more conservative people would say that blocking each other off of certain spots is a defining criteria for worker placement, making this more of an action selection type thing. Granted you do actually place workers on the board, but I don't think anyone bought into Sam saying Scythe was a worker placement game either even though there are workers that you place on a board ^^
I wanted to sooo badly, but I restrained myself...it was like nails on a chalkboard every time he said it...but I kept my mouth shut. I was a good boy...until now...
@@SamHealey6 hahaha I thought I noticed you subtly emphasize the pronunciation at the beginning of the intro. Of all the Tom-isms, that one is more annoying to me as well.
Am I the only one that can't stand this style of character artwork? When Gabe from penny arcade started drawing his characters like this years ago I had to quit going to that site I disliked it so much. All the characters look like alcoholics or they have a severe cold.
Love the intro music for Miami Dice.
5:30 The Thief does not make you lose virtue. It actually makes you lose one LESS virtue each time you steal from the Tax Stand.
Excited to play this one! I already love Raiders of the North Sea! Thanks guys for reviewing!!
The Thief doesn't make you lose virtue instantly. The Thief makes you lose less virtue when robbing the Tax Stand.
Really liked the look of the mechanic. Seemed cool like Raiders. Glad to see it came out looking okay.

I believe the Kickstarter came with 5 free Promos, don't quote me on that though.

Yeah but, it's not like there are exclusives components, like whole expansions. Promos can usually be aquired.
Yep. All promos will be available to buy. Just meant those who kickstarted got those for free.
Whoa, a three-way two [insert whatever here] up! When was the last time that happened?
Idd! I wondered about that too. First game that comes to mind is Blood Rage. Don't know if there been any since.
With the mass of worker meeples that can be placed where others are to collect resources, it sounds like it has a touch of classic RTS feel to it.

So does it get the seal of approval?
When can we see the solo play, Zee? :)
I'd be keen to see this!

Alexandre Bernard Thanks!
nice review! but you guys skip solo mode :) any thoughts? works well or to easy???
Super excited for this, went in for the KS and very eagerly awaiting delivery. Huge fan of Raiders so I know were gonna love this one for certain.
Tom, you're really good at explaining board games! Maybe you should do the rules for all the games!
There’s been a few architect games that have also been funded via KS
How does it play with two players?

Hard not to be sold by this review! Especially if you’ve played Raiders.
Wonder what is this necklace Sam is wearing.
Thank you all who announced that you kickstarted this. Please be sure to pat yourself on the back.
I kickstarted someone to pat my back for me. :-P
What can I say except you're welcome
For the tides, the sun, the sky
Hey, it's okay, it's okay
You're welcome
This will be my first worker placement game, really glad I kickstarted it.
Awesome review, loved Raiders so I was curious about your thoughts on this one. Can’t wait to get my copy!

Hoping to get this soon.
Looks a lot like Pillars of the Earth. Is it?
Excellent review gentlemen, as always! Any news on a release date? October possibly?
It'll be available at ESSEN, so right around then.

Hi Doug, this video is not by the same people but it gives a great overview of the Solo Variant: th-cam.com/video/7daLoLtmk_w/w-d-xo.html
Awesome!!!

Sam and Shem the game designers have been using the term "Worker Investment" as a more precise explanation of the game mechanism.
There is 1 game where I do NOT like player powers, and that is Ca$h n Guns 2nd ed.
This vs paladins?
Such a great game!
I was disappointed with base raiders so I'm glad to hear see say this is superior.
love it
So much enthusiasm... lol
that box looks tiny!
architects or viticulture?
Glad i backed it then :D
New mat for component drop!
bought
Smilversmifth xD
You cannot tell me that Tom Vasel doesn't know who the MICO is...
Someone should probably tell Tom it's not arc-EE-tects...
I wanted to sooo badly, but I restrained myself...it was like nails on a chalkboard every time he said it...but I kept my mouth shut. I was a good boy...until now...

LOL! So trivial! Love it!

Art is highly subjective, and that’s a good thing
You aren't the only one. I'm happy for those who like it, but for me it's a huge deterrent in buying a game.
Mikos artwork is being extremely overused since the Valeria games. All games look like the same game.
I like the art but I agree it's getting over used.
So, Tom likes Raiders better, however he gave this game two thumbs up, and Raiders 1 and 1/2 thumbs up. :/
I love the channel.
But seriously for the love of all things holy.
STOP DUMPING THE GAMES!
I throw up in my mouth a little but every time you do it.
Art style is terrible. Easy skip.
You might not like it but objectivly it is very well made from a technical standpoint.
I think it looks great
