  • Here is a slow pass video of Downtown Fresno between the last of the Union Pacific temporary alignment to the Belmont Avenue overpass.
    I call it a slow pass because it is not sped up, barely edited, with some ambient zen music to match the slow 26 mph pace. It is practically straight off the drone. This is actually two flights and there is one transition. This is just a quick release small stretch of the entire area I covered today. I will begin the edit on full Round 3 Part 3 video next. it will go from Church Avenue in Fresno to Avenue 19 in Madera. It will have all the usual side-by-sides and speed-ups :)

    In response to the comment about CHSR crossing over Fresno Street and requiring an embankment, according to the final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) under the Technical Section, "The Fresno St underpass would be extended under the HST structure. G St would pass over Fresno St, and H St would be re-profiled to provide an at-grade connection with Fresno St." In the flyover, G street is the street on the left running parallel with the CHSR alignment. Fresno Street will have to be closed temporarily and the approach from the left of the screen will have to be deepened and extended and G street will have a bridge crossing over Fresno Street. Thus, CHSR will be at grade over Fresno Street.

      Thanks for sharing. So still lots of work to be done. Do you all think 2033 is doable for the IOS?

    • @rwdavidoff
      @rwdavidoff หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for digging that up. So it will look like Tulare or Cesar Chavez when completed, I guess, without a direct interconnection to G street anymore?

    • @AxesoftheDanes
      @AxesoftheDanes หลายเดือนก่อน

      It depends on the actions of the incoming administration. The current administration awarded approximately 3.1 billion dollars to the Authority in December 2023 which, among other things, would permit the Authority to purchase trainsets for testing and operation and single track the IOS. The Authority application for funding that would be used to double track the IOS was denied. If the incoming administration attempts to claw back this funding, it will inevitably lead to a protracted legal battle that will tie up the funding until a final legal determination is made. According to the 2024 business plan, if this funding is unavailable, all they have funding for at the time of that presentation is completion of the initial 119 miles of construction, but single tracked and no trainsets.

  • @TinLeadHammer
    @TinLeadHammer หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I would appreciate either a narration or more descriptive titles, like the new track that snake into the old track - what is it? Is it for freight trains? Will there be more re-alignment? Where the HSR track will be? I guess you explained it in the earlier overflies, still, I don't remember much. Also, someone new may watch it, and without context it is not fully clear what are we looking at. Thanks!

      @jasondroninaround  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@TinLeadHammer Yes. They moved the UP line over temporarily to build those underpasses. I think it's supposed to be going back really soon. Then, they'll finish the underpasses all the way through and they'll be ready for the high speed rail line.
      These slow past videos have kind of turned into a quick and easy upload that I usually put up the same day or the next day after shooting. The main video it's pretty long and there's a lot of editing and it will take me several days for it to be ready, depending on how much I'm working at my day job :-)

      Most of the grade crossing for UP were level crossings. There cannot be level crossing in high-speed rail. UP is getting a bunch of "free" underpasses and overpasses. They temporarily realigned the UP freight lines to built the underpasses. I think they are done with those parts of the underpasses and now UP has to put their rails back where they were. There is a similar situation later in the video, just past the clown's hideout :) You can see where they temporarily realigned that branch line. The part of the Trench is finished where the branch line used to be. Now they are just waiting for UP to put their rails back where they were there as well.

    • @rwdavidoff
      @rwdavidoff หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The temporary diversion Jason describes is called a "shoofly" I think by analogy to waving a fly to get it to move away from where you need to do the work--there's also one up at the wye at 4:35, where the track is currently on the shoofly alignment, and needs to be restored to the original alignment (visible with the bridge and ballast just south of the shoofly) now that the canal and trench crossing have been constructed. I'm hoping to see that also in the works when the cut-and-throw for restoring the original alignment from the shoofly at Tulare/Cesar Chavez is completed.

      @@rwdavidoff I learned a new word on this comment thread: Shoofly. I updated the labels in the upcoming video :-) thank you. Before this adventure, I was an amateur rail fan and an amateur drone pilot. I'm getting better at both thanks to all you guys lol
      As for the video editing last night. All the labels got done and I started making the music. Sometimes it seems to generate the perfect songs and it goes really quickly. Other times, like last night, it doesn't. I don't know if it's my mood or just fate or whatever but I was listening to crappy generated song over and over and over and I just told myself I need to sleep on it.

      @rwdavidoff หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A user named AxesofDanes had a good answer in another comment you might want to check--basically, the Fresno street intersection with G street will be removed, and Fresno Street realigned to stay lower longer and then slope back up, with G street restored going over on a bridge, much like at Tulare or Cesar Chavez. As Fresno Street will thus be lower than it is, HSR can cross at grade, no embankment required.
