If you don't know by now, trains can carry almost anything if the occasional calls for it. Military equipment, construction vehicles, transformers, you name it. Some areas see certain special moves more than others, and in the case of Atlanta a certain type of high and wide move is not common: turbines. Out in the West, with open land and wind, turbine trains are expected, but in the southern corner of the U.S. such trains are sparing and quite the sight to see. Fortunately, there was a little sprint of these uncommon railroad moves that happened in the course of about two months, and I fortunately was able to document one of them for your viewing pleasure. I pray you enjoy.

Train terminated in Morehead City NC to the CLNA (company I work for) then trucked to Elizabeth City area as you have posted at 21:44
i railfan in brighton, some times BNSF take empty flats to the facility, then I believe Union Pacific takes them up to Denver and hands them off to BNSF. I could be wrong on that, and at that facility they have a little switcher WAMX 1216 to move the flat cars around, and move loaded cars to separate tracks for Union Pacific or BNSF to take.

Nice video! Those wind turbine trains are definitely one of the coolest trains I’ve seen around here, never thought I’d ever see them without having to go out west (I got the first two that ran, I was right beside iceclimber when he was getting that video). The train in this video as well as the three other turbine trains were going to Morehead City, NC where the parts were offloaded to be taken to an offshore farm. The blades were sent in by ship so we won’t see those come through here unfortunately (probably because of clearance problems).

Kinda unlucky with 4641. There were just 4 C44-9WLs built for BCOL. One of them was scrapped due to a fire, and of the 3 that remain, 4641 is the one unit that doesn’t wear it’s classic BC rail red white and blue scheme. The other two active BCOL units, 4642 and 4644, wear that original scheme. I say “unlucky” but even just seeing a C44-9WL is a rare event. Only 26 were ever built and they are one of my personal all time favorites. I’ve seen one of the CN units, 2517, which is one of 22 of them that CN got delivered.
Man I KNOW, I was actually in disbelief when I found out it was the only one. 😭
I remember when this train ran thru Denver. I believe the CN motors came from Eola or Galesburg (off of the CN) with the empty flats and ran West as a BNSF train. They then interchanged with the UP in Denver and loaded at the Brighton facility before heading to New Orleans as yet again a BNSF train.
It’s interesting, it never seems like these trains originate in Brighton at the facility, but they bring the cars from elsewhere and will load within a matter of hours and leave.

For the crane, the boxcar is a tool car, anything they could need incase it breaks down, and the gondola holds other booms the crane can change out depending on the job

Hey Loco! It will be my first time out railfanning in Atlanta Tomorrow! Got any tips? Where should I go?
Hey there, so sorry I’m late on this. I’m assuming you’re out now so here’s my advice:
If you’re driving, only places you really need to be going are Howell Wye and Inman. If you’re parking at Inman, you gotta park in the median, so be very watchful for the roads because a lot of trucks go through there. You have to cross the road to see the shops and go to the other side to have a view of CSX. At Howell Wye both NS and CSX are right there. Don’t be dismayed if you are not seeing a parade of trains as soon as you go out. Give time for the magic to kick in. ;)
Also, do NOT stay out at night. Stay safe, fam.
