a pair of long nose vise grips is the way to go , with a deep socket over each jaw , makes a very good hose clamp .

thanks dude . no one explained that this valve is responsible for this drop from first gear to second. it's annoying. I knew it delayed and prevented from hitting the dual-mass clutch

Made a massive difference on my Z4. Didn't need to bleed clutch after.

You are an absolute legend sir. Your boot swap video (still the only one I can find) gave me the confidence to do the hatch on mine which I did last weekend and now I have found this video it’s 100% getting done - that lurching in 1st gear is soooo annoying !! PEACE!!

Update on this… job done.. as per video, this job is easy, nothing stiff or hard to undo, I clamped my clutch line really well so only literally a drop of fluid came out so I didn’t bother bleeding the clutch.. can actually feel the clutch now and pull away from junctions as normal without the dreaded lurch!! top video 💯

I'm thinking it's easier to block of the brake master so it holds the fluid in the line.
Love that you validated the CDV can just be bypassed.

Great video George, doing this on my E92 335i next week to hopefully make my aftermarket clutch easier to take off with, by far the most clear video on this subject that i have found.

good video as it seems this is an odd thing BMW does with their manual transmission vehicles. everyone agrees when its deleted how much better the clutch feels. glad to know.

Your face at 9:40 hahah I told you it transforms the way it drives, it just changes gears like old fashioned proper cars, when you try and do a quick change it always tried to smooth out your changes and make you drive slower

  • @joebloggs4191

I have never bought a BMW with a manual gearbox because I never liked how they shifted, mainly from standstill. All manual BMWs I have driven felt like they were kangarooing in first gear and hence always purchased automatics. Seems like this CDV is the culprit for that behaviour and maybe next time i'll try a manual with the CDV deleted.

Ive just done this on my car, the bite seems really low now. When pulling away it bites almost straight away then its really light for about 3/4 of the way up. Is yours the same? I dunno if its just because the fluid can flow alot more freely so it feels lighter

Finally got CDV removed on my 2010 e92 - 320d M Sport , was having clutch judder issues on slopes and 1st to 2nd. Was qouted £55 to remove but it was tricky to take out so cost £100 labour but no complaints as the damn thing was annoying. After 3 months of driving with no CDV i have had zero clutch judder (massive improvment). Although the gears dnt seem to be shifting smoothly and have resistance untill the car warms up, will remove transmission oil soon.

£100? Certain any mechanic with a lift can get it done in less then 20mins, I done with a jack in 30mins and bled the clutch with a diy bleeder.

    • @scarletturk3892
      @scarletturk3892 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I can't think of anything that could be potentially problematic about that procedure for anyone remotely competent, let alone a professional mechanic. Only thing I can think of would be if the screws securing the undertray had corroded. If all, or most were knackered, it would take a bit longer as they'd need to be mole-gripped off and replaced. I think there are 12 or 14 screws, but I bought 50 for about £6 on Ebay, so they're not expensive. If it wasn't that, then I reckon they ripped you off there.😡 Good to hear it's an improvement.

Mate, i have a problem. I tried to delete cdv but it wouldnt come lose. Still had to bleed the clutch, but i failed and now there is no pressure on system.
Its full of air. Can i just use your method? Keep the clutch down and open the bleeder till bubbles are gone? Or do i need to add pressure again for it to work.
I forked up big time and also the bleeder is a little rounded and i need to find a way to open it...

You can remove it by taking it off and shoving a screwdriver through the middle of it and put it back on, so visually it’s still there but it’s got no valve in the middle any more, so to be sure by looking at it you won’t be able to tell if someone modified it unless you take it off yourself, this is sometimes done when the flex pipe isn’t long enough to connect the two ends
