Terry Williams on the drums was epic.
The whole band had a great time!
I was there in 1983, I was just turned 18 and I'm 57 now and its still one of the best performances you will see.
Now you just have to watch Telegraph Road from the same gig, its even belter

i don’t know if you can say one is better than the other honestly. they are both absolute top tier performances, it’s kinda like chocolate vs vanilla, you can really say which is better, it’s just a question of your preference

I cant help it but ever since i first saw this alchemy live concert, unfortunately on dvd but still great i tear up every time. Not thru sadness but thru pure joy, pure happiness. Doesnt matter how bad a day can be, doesnt matter the state of the world, this band , this concert does nothing but put happiness back in yo your soul and just creates such pure bliss for an hour or two. I listen to Telegraph road and Sultans of Swing every single day since they first got released and theyve never failed in over 40 yyears to make me smile and be happy for some part of every single day.

Mark plays his guitar with his fingers, same as Lyndsey Buckingham - a finger picker with such 💥 ENERGY 💥 with the drummer giving the whole performance such drive.

Saw them at the Roxy on Sunset strip in 81, nobody knew them. Asked people who had a taste for music pretty close to my. The band was not well known by Americans yet, went with my girl thinking tickets won't be a problem. Parked the car and walked to where ticket was sold nexr ro the entrance, sure was sold out. For some reason did not walk to the car cursing myself and rest of the world, stood in front the booth talking with myself. When my girl came to me saying let's go home, 3 to 5 seconds went by saw the guy waving abd calling me. He said two friends can't make it and have here two tickets still want. They were still playing the first tune. sure how much? the price on the ticket, gave him the money a girl walked us to our table.Sat down called the waittress order two Heinekens, when she was back they start playing Once upon a time in the west. Great show in a kind of bar with perfect acoustic, had won the lottery

Just found your channel this morning - TH-cam knows I like watching this performance! And watching people discover it for the first time.
Sadly I never saw Dire Straits, but I did see Mark Knopfler in solo concert a couple of times in 2019. Like many of us he's put on some weight and lost some hair, and maybe he's not quite as dextrous on the guitar as he was. But just to be there in the arena with him, watching him play, thinking, 'That's the man who did that amazing performance of Sultans of Swing' - it was a great experience. (Sadly he didn't do 'Sultans' so I'm hoping for a new tour sometime soon.)
And then you have to realise that this isn't just a moment frozen in time. They were touring all over the world, playing hundreds of dates, and so were doing this EVERY NIGHT. Just astounding.

I agree with you concerning M.K's unique guitar style. In my humble opinion, he is in my top two favorite guitarists, sharing that spot only with Derek Trucks, who played with the Allman Brothers from the age of 9-19! Derek then had a self-titled band for awhile before playing with his long time wife, Susan Tedeschi, who is also a force to be reckoned with both vocally and on the guitar, They have many live hits, but one of my favorites is, Susan Tedeschi blows the roof off the Orpheum! "I Pity the Fool" 12/4/21!

Proud of you, Phil. Saw them back in the day (opening act SRV and Double Trouble). They played my fave (Telegraph Road) but the crowd really went nuts for the flash/ bang enhanced drama of Private Investigations. Peace, love and bellbottoms.

You know I love the album cut of this because it came out when I was in high school I think and I ran out and bought the 45 RPM single and played it a lot. I was an aspiring guitar player at the time and later I did become a guitar player and I play a lot of instruments actually. But yeah what hooked me of course and I could tell you were waiting for it, and I could tell the audience is waiting for it it was just that classic arpeggio stuff at the end. And what's amazing to me is that it sounds like flat picking you know with a pic, but he does it with his fingers and that's a much older School approach to things. I also think it's amazing that they're from I think Northern England and yet they synthesized all these different sounds. There's a bit of jazz bit of Blues bit of Creole a bit of all this stuff. And wow what a great combination. But the live version here, it is one of those where it's actually better than the studio version. At this point I think they played it a whole bunch in front of people but wow. Everybody in that band was going nuts. And it's great as his guitar playing is and everything else? That drumming just blows me away. It's too bad we don't see more of him. Sometimes when they're not showing him he's actually doing the most complicated crossover patterns and crazy Kick Drum stuff. But he's just workmanlike and gets the job done. I love how tight they are. Thank you for reacting to this.

@@PhiliminizzyReacts the funny thing is I bought that single when it came out when I was young, but I never saw this video until probably 4 months ago. That is the magic of youtube. And at first I was skeptical but I watched your reaction and I think I've watched one other reaction to it before that and of course being a musician I look at it really closely even though I'm much older now than when I bought that single in high school, laugh. And it really is phenomenal. It really really is.
