    thanks for watching all - decided to make this video after doing some long distance riding on the KLX250 and put me up with some thoughts on the DRZ400 again. I will eventually come out with more videos and a true klx250 vs DRZ400 soon enough. tough to do. I know a few people asked me to do a drz400 vs klx250 video...soon enough

    It all depends on your needs. Down here at near sea level the KLX 250 is surprisingly good on the street. Shifts great. Very economical with 70-75 MPG. I bought it for light work in the desert and hills, not to run an enduro circuit. It will get you where you want to go but within limits. At the 250 level, momentum is as important as horsepower. Don't load it down with too much crap. It's not a KLR. Don't expect it to hang with a KTM. It's not hyper anything. What impresses me most about my fuel injected 2019 is the feel of it. It's simply a soft and refined machine. It's not clunky. I think the brakes (especially the rear) and suspension are underrated. Its fun to ride and puts a smile on my face. I'm not pushing it. For me, it does what I want.

    One suggestion. Can we keep the music volume and your voice volume the same so I don't have to turn it down every time music hits haha. Great review as always. Questioning going from the 250 to the 400 at the moment

    I have a 2017 DRZ SuperMoto and the ability to swap out the 17” wheels in 20 minutes for knobby-shod 18” & 21” wheels is so awesome. True 2-1 bike, I’ll be buried with it, LOL. My poor 1200GS stays in the garage...a lot! BTW, looks we ride the same areas (Rampart/Mt Herman/etc), we’re very fortunate!

    I have seen the KLX250 be the perfect stepping stone bike. Rider's start here then once confident and needing more power, suspension and handling they move on. Often to a DRZ 400! Perfect introduction bike but not a bike for life so to speak

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      definitely true! so I found its limitations the other day where it started becoming the bike and not the rider and this was in an area called Mt Antero. the KLX250 simily did not have enough power to climb the pass. it was very steep and rocky and even on 1st gear it would not climb it. it would bog down and I had to get off to push it. but this was not beginner trails. this was more for advanced riders. I will be making a video on it soon!

    Now they have the KLX300 Dual sport, which will bring it closer to the DR400 power wise, plus the KLX has EFI which at different elevations/temps would be a better choice than carburation..

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      so that is what I thought, actually thinking of making a video about this. the KLX300 dualsport and the R is not as close to the drz400. I thought the same. the KLX300R is 26 horsepower at 8,000 rpm, and 17 pound-feet of torque and the DRZ400 39 hp and 26 lb-ft of torque. the DRZ400 is still one the best dualsport lol..however the KLX feels a lot smoother and modern. also the klx300R does feel better offroad

      @@RWWRENTAL And the EFI might work better for me, I live at 4400 feet and go down to the desert & up into the mountains here in the southwest...

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      in my honest opinion, if you ride in areas with not much constant elevation change yeah drz400e is the bike to have. no maintenance practically and can handle some serious stuff as ive seen in our CO single track which is never easy

    Have you thought about installing the ACT wide ratio gears in the DRZ400? If you’re able to do it yourself, it’s a better value upgrade than a full exhaust because it’ll cruise all day at 70-75.

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      so I was actually thinking of adding the ACT gears. Im mostly going to be using my drz400 now for light adv riding and atv/jeep trails so that is definitely something I am going to consider.

    Weight the same and have a similar opinion to you on the DRZ and I own a klx250s. The klx is a fun bike but it's pretty horrible on highway despite everyone praising the 6 speed gearbox. The KLX400R(DRZ400E) has been a revalation to me picked it up last week and I don't see myself hoping back on the KLX250s often in the near future. The power is just there when you need it and the KLX250s has a truly aweful carburator that's a nightmare to get out. Wish I would have went with the drz in the first place coming off my KLR the KLX250s just didn't do it for me.

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah totally feel you man! when it came to light adventure riding, the KLX was pretty bad because of the power. great trail bike especially for beginners but I put the KLX250 to its test not too long ago with some serious hill climbs and even on 1st gear it didnt have the power sadly. this bike is meant for light trails and such

      I own DRZ400E and will tell you they're incredible...
      Unfortunately though im changing to a WR450F as the DRZ400 can be a little bit too heavy for intricate obstacles.

      Buttered Potato you will love the WR!! COMPLETELY different animal to the DRZ (which will then feel like a heavy 250 power wise 😜👌🏼 a great trade up!

    what's the point of 6 speed, when these 250's, 300's are a gutless moped anyways, LOL.

    • @RWWRENTAL
      @RWWRENTAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha yup! same for me! got a te250i for the harder stuff and speed. big bore is about 1k to install from what I researched but I heard its a much im currently fixing up my drz400e to take it on harder stuff now that I am more experienced. more technical single track and stuff. drz400 def better on the road though vs klx250 mainly bc of the power lol
