  • We complete our latest Lennon journey with the conclusion of my analysis of some of the more telling quotes from the series of interviews conducted in September 1980 for Playboy magazine by John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
This episode contains a lot of clips from the original audio of the interviews and focuses mainly on John's comments about who wrote what in the Lennon-McCartney catalogue, including John#s analysis of the deeper meanings behind the song 'Strawberry Fields Forever'.
I have also included (by kind permission) an extended segment from the excellent 'Yesterday and Today' podcast that deals with a certain seafaring adventure that John undertook in June 1980 and which would have a profound effect on him.
Finally, there's a little bit of music from your humble host...
    Enjoy!

John Lennon was blessed. He gave all he had and made the world a better place during his short time here. And the after-world (heaven) is a better place with him now.

Thanks, really enjoying it so far ( still listening to it). What is the truth of Julia's death then, how did he misrepresent it?

From memory the only thing I can think of is that John was always under the impression the driver that killed his mum was drunk. He was an off duty policeman and he was also a learner driver so he shouldn't have been driving alone without a qualified driver. He wasn't drunk though. His name is Eric Clague if you want to have a little Google about him it's very interesting. Accidentally killing Julia had a massive effect on Clague for the rest of his life.

Lewisohn, of course, covers the issue very comprehensively and very well in Tune In.

He didn't willingly misrepresent it, probably just confused it with the fact that Bobby Dykins had had an accident in his car while drunk on the same stretch of road just weeks earlier (Dykins was represented by the Epstein family lawyer, you couldn't make it up!). Clague ended up as a postman, including delivering fan mail to Paul's house in the early days of Beatlemania. As Mr Green said below, Lewisohn covers it well, as he generally does with everything
