  • In the last episode before we notch up our century, Antony flies solo to muse on and discuss various items of Lennon interest.
In order, these are the 40th anniversary of the ‘Milk And Honey’ album, the cancelling and virtues of the Lennon-penned Beatles song ‘Run For Your Life’, May Pang’s 2022 documentary ‘The Lost Weekend: A Love Story’, the work of Mike Williams and his theory on the impossibility of the recording of ‘Rubber Soul’ (Antony gets tied in knots at this point negotiating his position in the middle ground of the mainstream-conspiracy continuum!), and an extended look at the 2000 ‘Gimme Some Truth’ documentary.
Finally there’s a look at the recent Apple TV documentary ‘John Lennon: Murder Without A Trial’ and David Whelan’s new book ‘Mind Games: The Assassination of John Lennon’, both of which naturally focus on the grisly events of December 8th 1980.
There are multiple audio clips as ever and what is probably a record number of links in the show notes.
Episode 100 will appear in March
    Enjoy!

My mom called me early that morning 1980, I got so angry and devastated I slam the phone. My world became before and after that day. So traumatizing. Keep up your good work .

Good to hear you acknowledge some of the questions raised by Mike Willliams and that you recognise that we all have the potential to buy into a narrative without critically thinking it through. Why not interview him? Truth fears no questioning and it would seem in keeping with Lennon's tendency to scrutinise sacred cows.

I watched some of Mike Williams stuff too and agree with you. Also I'm a song writer and when I was in my 20's and when inspired you can really push songs out, specially under pressure. and these were two young guys.in a perfect storm

I commend you on your being open to info outside of the official version of events, Mike Williams has some pretty far out takes but I found his 4hr Rubber Soul dissection pretty compelling, you yourself I'm sure have toured so you'll know it's the least conducive environment for creativity, throw in a bunch of photo-shoots and constant interviews I find it hard to believe they were churning out hits during stolen moments along the way, let alone the time needed to refine/experiment/fail/redo, all things that a song needs to breathe and take shape but we're told they - in such little pockets of time - just struck gold time and again, there's definitely something we don't know at the heart of it, some 'helping/guiding hand/s' of sorts, whether anyone will 'fess up' one day is another matter, having some daft construct to cover even the most trivial of matters doesn't do the suspicions any favours either, there's 3 stories of how they ended up on Ed Sullivan alone, why the need to create myths? why not just be straight about it? anyways nice to see you back Antony

Thanks for your comments. Who the hell knows but as I said on the show they had a full 6 weeks to write the Rubber Soul songs after their 1965 touring had ended.

I'm glad you brought up Mike Williams because people seem to fall into opposing camps, but you seem open minded. I've watched a lot of MW's stuff but so much of it seems tenuous to me. I think it all stems from John Coleman's The Tavistock institute which claimed the Beatles were constructed by Tavistock and their music was written by Theodore Adorno. I don't believe in PID either, and much of Mike's work revolves around the Memoirs of Billy Shears. One of the most fascinating aspects to me is the difference beween Britain and America in the Sixties and how much more turbulent were the societal changes that took place in America. I don't think Mike has an understanding of how much of the push in Britain was brought about the relaxation of the class system and makes Brits out to be a tool used to destabilise America, whereas we know that initially, Capitol were resitant to releasing the Beatles in America because they thought the music was rubbish. On the other hand, I firmly believe that Tavistock/CIA had a big hand in shaping society through the Fifties and Sixties, knowing that the huge baby boom generation would need to be controlled.
