    Thanks for the video. Two things, first did you do a video showing how you connected the ecobee to your HomeKit? Second I had to contact Ecobee Customer Service for some help with my installation and their tech support was amazing. I know you didn’t need them, but wanted to share in case your viewers need to call them for installation help.

      Thanks for the heads-up! I didn’t do a connect to HomeKit video, but it was very easy. The ecobee displayed a HomeKit barcode (looks like a QR code) on the screen, then I just pointed the phone camera at it. The iPhone did the rest of the magic on its own.

    You didn’t really talk about HomeKit. What besides the thermostat is exposed to HomeKit? I saw 4 accessories. Are you able to use non ecobee motion sensors to trigger occupancy to control the AC?

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can. Every light and fan switch in the house is a Lutron Caseta, and all of them are exposed to HomeKit. I also have outlets, security cameras, and a few other devices on the HomeKit network. I don’t typically use the ecobee sensor to trigger HomeKit routines because there’s a bit of a delay, which makes it impractical for turning on lights. Instead, the Casita motion sensors are instantaneous and I’ve had pretty good luck with Aqara sensors as well (contact sensors, leak detection sensors, and vibration sensors. I love HomeKit and outside of the convenience of just calling out to Alexa since I have echo dots everywhere (they’re much cheaper than HomePod minis), I prefer it.

    Have you found the thermostat conflicted with your other echo devices?? Was leaning towards this model but my echo 10 is about 10 feet away in my kitchen and I'm thinking they both think I'm talking to them?? Lol

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t had any issues. My echo show is also in the kitchen and close by, but only the Alexa device that hears you first will respond so they don’t both talk over each other. You can also disable Alexa and enable Siri on the Ecobee if it becomes an issue.

    I have an old HVAC with a panel with no C circuit to connect the blue wire to. Should I connect it to the B or the O circuit? Please advise

    It is possible with the App to remotely control the Ecobee while outside of your home and not home your home network? As in load up the app and turn on the heat from a friend's or family's house.

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that’s completely possible. I usually do it through HomeKit on the cellphone or the app and it works even when not home or on another Wi-Fi network

    Ditch that original plate and see what it looks like without it. The Ecobee back plate would look better. But other then that good video.

    Do you control this your smart radiator thermostat or how this controls you warmth?

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, this can also control heat but my A/C unit is generally used for cooling since I’m in a pretty warm climate.

    I would like to change my thermostat but I have 2 wires that are marked I+ and I- and I don't see any of those letters on another thermostat.

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you may have a communicating thermostat with a communication module at your A/C unit or furnace. You might be able to bypass it if your unit has traditional connectors at the control board, but only if you have a single or dual stage compressor, instead of a variable-speed one like some of the Lennox modules. Some Google searching may give you some additional useful info, but I would consult with an A/C or HVAC professional to be sure.

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a “common” wire that provides continuous power to your thermostat (as opposed to traditional battery operated thermostats that may not have needed one).

    • @_thediyguy
      @_thediyguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bummer. Check the wiring between the unit and the thermostat, be sure you have the right voltage, and be sure to turn off the circuit breaker for the ac before conducting the install.

    • @fpanadero2626
