This always sounds better the smaller the orchestra and choir that sings it. This is about the right size. Nothing bigger. And whatever you do, don't rush through the "Amen".
Heard lots of Messiahs. Lots of adjectives to describe them too. This one I stumbled across. Right off the bat, attracted to the size. Music already dramatic enough without needing a small army to perform. So there's that. Everything else? Remember said lots of adjectives? This one? "Exquisite". Thank you Maestro Dahl, Choir, Singers. and Orchestra.
How refreshing to see a small choir and a small orchestra performing this well-known piece, which is normally performed by huge choirs and a full orchestra, Thanks for posting.
Wonderful. Sublime. Who does not hear and sigh...who does not hear and weep...who does not hear and float...and smile. One can feel the depth of Humanity by watching the players and singers faces...for me they are as much a part of the music as what was composed in notes.
Lively but unhurried rendition, with real clarity in all the vocal and instrumental lines. This is due to the expertise of this small ensemble. Beautiful!
THANK YOU for not taking the opening, before the fugue, of the Sinfonia like a gigue! Long overdue. Had Handel only written "All We Like Sheep", he would have established a place in love from his fellow man. But when The Lord says our cup will overflow, you can rest assured it will.
@@DanielHartvigsen There are lots. Check out the Christopher Hogwood version with the Academy of Ancient music or the Steven Cleobury rendition with the Brandenburg Consort. These versions have excellent soloists with more original and unique versions of the arias.
From my readings about The Great Handel and the development of this great work of his, this rendition follows much more closely than most of the others out there in presenting this piece as Handel had intended it to be performed, not by some mega-sized army but by a smaller and more intimate ensemble. This is a fabulous performance and carried off quite well by supremely talented people. At most, only 16 singers in the choir! Leave it to the Danes! Thank you for doing it right!
The list under "Soloists" is all correct. But please ignore the paragraph about renowned tenor Mark Padmore. The tenor here is Timothy Robinson, as in the Soloists list. To verify, do a google image search.
Good performance but this is an edited version which is missing at least 4 pieces 👎: 49. Recitative Alto Then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." (I Corinthians 15: 54) 50. Duet Alto & tenor O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. (I Corinthians 15: 55-56) 51. Chorus But thanks be to God, who giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Corinthians 15: 57) 52. Air Soprano alto If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8: 31) Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth, who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is at the right hand of God, who makes intercession for us. (Romans 8: 33-34)
except an 18th C timpanist would have covered his wooden sticks in chamois to get a more musical sound indoors, and his concluding roll was wrong...it would have been performed not as a series of single strokes but rather like a snare drum roll with multiple bounces per hand....
Your spelling of "mis-spelled" is misspelled. I could not resist taking your delicious, low-hanging fruit. You know what they say about people in glass houses.
I love this, but im still trying to find a version where the women are not indecently exposed (bare arms, chest, back, cleavage, etc.). Im not their judge, just want to enjoy a very sincere pure version of this, still talented.
It can also be played too fast! I've got a CD that sounds like an accompaniment for the Keystone Cops. It's ridiculous. Something about the "Dream Team." More like the Nightmare Team. The alto is UNBELIEVABLY bad. I LOVE this Mogens Dahl version!
I DO *NOT* like the Bahrenreiter edition of "Messiah"! It turns "But Who May Abide" into an alto solo which makes no sense with the previous bass recitative. The G. Schirmer edition has the aria as a bass solo. Having sung the bass solos in concert dozens of times, I would even prefer the alternate aria of "But Who May Abide" that is in the Bahrenreiter that just stays in the three-eight all the way through. I've even sung that, too. Anyway, blah blah blah!
This always sounds better the smaller the orchestra and choir that sings it. This is about the right size. Nothing bigger. And whatever you do, don't rush through the "Amen".
Absolutely, the rendition requires just the right amount of cantors. This is just perfect.
@Karrie Dee Yeah, but I still find their performance with Australian sign language pretty good. That soprano, though!
Amazing how small orchestral forces and choir can produce such a magnificent performance. Definitely a case of "Less is More"!
According to me, this is largely the best version on You Tube

TO GOD ALONE BE ALL THE GLORY. Handel Proved that Jesus is The Messiah. Hallelujah.

Love Handel Messiah Songs and Singers.
small ensemble, magnificent performance
I agree with Karrie's comment! The peace of listening to the uninterrupted singing, particularly in these troubled times🙂
The king of England, George II, was on his feets when hear for the first time, the majesty of Handel´s Hallelujah. Historicall moment.

Fantastic version of The Messiah ! One of the best I have ever heard.
Fantastic and very Beautiful. Bravo !
Fantastic!! Just a single cellist and one Bass but such precise and alive musicianship. Subscribed!
This is the best, the most heartfelt rendition of Messiah I have ever heard. This deserves to be recorded on DVD
I would have to disagree. I have seen more original versions with better soloists performing them too.
@@therealtornadosam It would be great if you could mention the names of those soloists or performances.

@@therealtornadosam totally agree. This performance is a bit rigid and cold, while the ones you mention are airy and lively.

Felicitaciones. Magnifico.
Amazing! Glory to GOD.
No performance is as inspirational and captivating and intriguing and magnificent as this performance
The diversity’s depths of Handel is immeasurable

I like the more intimate setting and the great clarity. Thank you! I couldn't see the trumpeter though for 'The trumpet shall sound'.

Es interesante su trabajo, saludos desde México.

The cellist is a good musician!
Just wandering, is this available on CD and/or DVD?
Unfortunately not. Maybe next year if we are able fund it:-) Thanks for asking.
Magnificent timpani.

Yes, you can play the Messiah too slow. This is the perfect example. Not good! Listen to Marriner's version, the reference recording.

Great music,competently and ably sung..
But found it all a bit lifeless.
Was the tempo a tad slow.
Videoist may be the problem

Sometimes people do the Bass recitative, which doesn't make much sense when compared to the full Aria.
