  • I posted this short on Instagram & TH-cam the other day • Iris in 30 seconds and someone asked about a tour, I thought that was a great idea and here we are. This is the tail end of the bearded iris bloom peak for me here in zone 7 Philadelphia.
I planted my first bearded iris in the summer of 2020, I had ordered most of them in winter before the pandemic began. As of today I have about 400 plants and 175 varieties give or take a few that have disappeared over the years. I would say my buying frenzy has slowed and I'm getting to know what I like in an iris and what I can pass on. I'm currently looking for dwarf and reblooming varieties as well as adding colors to some of my beds that don't have any.
I have gotten great rhizomes from:
    Sutton Iris
    Keppel Iris
    Mid America Garden
    Schreiner's Iris Gardens
    Iris Sisters
    Rocky Top Iris
    Iris Meisters
and I've learned a lot about iris from the Iris forum on garden.org
I get my music & sound fx from Soundstripe, as a newer TH-camr I wanted a custom feel to my soundtracks without the crazy cost of some of the big licensing companies that charge by song, with Soundstripe-it’s one monthly or annual fee and unlimited access to their library which I find full of cool, contemporary and interesting options. As an affiliate, I’m happy to recommend them to you all! Click the link below to see the available plans:

Your choices are always so beautiful! I have a deer issue and deer don't bother the irises -another big bonus for irises!

I love the dark ones too, and prefer that they have scent as well.

do you know I can't really smell flowers? It must be the years of working in rooms with them but I can only smell like 10 types. The dark ones are incredibly beautiful!

Rain, what is it? 😂 Hi from Montgomery County and thanks for the tour! I’ve been considering iris for that gap between spring and summer flowers. They have an old fashioned elegance.

hi there! yes, not a whole lot of rain but enough to knock down the iris-or that might have been the wind. I think they are perfect for that transitional time too!

Thank you very much for this video ! I really like your color scheme. Tango Amigo is marvelous ! Gotham is beautiful! You mixed them so well with your other plants. And the pennies ! Gorgeous ! Love your work and hope you will do another iris pennies tour next year. Your video is helpful because irises don't always look as the picture at Schreiners and we cant see all of them on their video. I saw irises in your garden that I will add to my order next year. By the way I'm French, so sorry for the writing. Love your channel !

Thanks so much for sharing! Your iris collection is stunning, as is the rest of your garden as well. I’m adding a bunch to my garden this year and already planning for next year!

You do an amazing job with the colour combos, stealing some ideas here. If only i could get my hands on some of the irises here in Germany.
But can you tell me what the repeared light pink flowers are in the outside border around 10:43... Salvia? Heucherella? Couldnt quite figure it out, thanks!

It's a native type of Salvia! sorry I don't know the exact name

Also do you have any particular Iris care tips youve learned from having them beyond just the general conditions (Sunny, low competition etc)? You said they need more attention?

    • @Sullivan_Owen

They really don't need much attention, it's the dividing every few seasons that I think puts people off them. I plant things so closely that it's giving me some trouble but they thrive even with neglect. I think there are a few French iris sellers that carry some of the US varieties, I'll see if I can find the names. They don't ship out of the EU so I rarely look at them.
And yes, that's a native type Salvia, pale pink seashell shaped blooms, excellent and easy to grow plant for sure.

@@Sullivan_Owen Thank you! that would be amazing... Ive seen a few little online sellers or collecters that have a couple of them on occasion over here (yet to order anything) but its slim pickings. The "Gotham" variety is a stunner!

What is the peony that looks like a itoh or tree peony at 5;36 mark? It is pink with darker center really pretty? thanks. Love the iris.
