Take a look at my side by side video comparisons to see the difference in video quality between the GoPro Max and Insta360 X3. Both cameras feature different lens and colour technology and both feature a 360 and standard video mode.
The Max is quite a bit older than the Insta360 but the company also has two decades worth of experience creating amazing action cameras.
I'll also be comparing the software available for both of these cameras as 360 cameras lean heavily on software to create the special effects that only they are capable of.

Do we know if GoPro will release a Max 2..?
I enjoyed the Samsung Gear360, but hated the poor resolution when using a VR headset. Have you tried either of these with VR? I would assume the better image quality would mean a better experience and less screen door... Informative videos as always, keep up the good work!

i scratched the lens of my gopro max and got the X3, it is not the upgrade i expected. if you shoot flat and sharpen in post the gopro
Max holds its own in 360 mode. everything else the x3 is slightly better.
Having the insta X3 on my motorbike would it need to go into a case, as I borrowed my friends Insta One X but in the case it caused blurr in the video

Probably the X3. More editing options and a waterproof case if you also want to go deeper underwater

Is it me or if i download videos/photos from gopro 360 to my iphone13p, it’s distorted. Any advice?
I hope you will make another video from 4k boost .I just saw low light test from Osmo action 3 which is enough for me but this camera have worst mic and baterries from insta 4k boost .
Insta upgraged their firmware
For now i care mostkly for car driving front glass without dash board on front view . I have telesin mount and i see insta have mount grip from down side which is a bit compilated for me now .

Is there any zoom on the Insta 360 X3?
Gopro has crap software. I got rid of mine after one ski trip. I was really thinking they would outshine Insta360, but if you shoot sports, Insta360 has the software to grab the action you want. I will say that I trust Gopro’s hardware more. I’ve had plenty of hardware issues with Insta360. They still capture crap sound for one, and the boast that they’re cameras are waterproof is just not so. In my experience, mine couldn’t take a slight splash or even a drizzle of rain, with the cheap door closed.

@@user-pp6si6to4g, for a helmet mount, a 360 camera is not your best bet if it’s front mounted. You’ll lose resolution when you reframe, and the backside of your video will see mostly helmet. However if you get the Insta360 ONE R, you get both options. You can shoot 360, then reframe to somewhere between 1080p and 1440p, or shoot 4k straight video. The camera is Gopro shaped and very light in weight. It can utilize all the Gopro mounts. I usually shoot 360 video, then reframe to the view what I want when I ski. I sometimes shoot in straight video in 4K off the top of my truck with my Gopro Hero 7 Black, but it malfunctioed on me on the last shoot, so I tried the 4K lens on the Insta360 ONE R for the first time, and was amazed at the quality of the video. But keep in mind that the audio on Insta360 cameras is crap. Gopro is superior in audio. So for helmet mount, I would go Gopro.

If you do timelapse, the gopro has the option to set the speed of recording the timelapse/timewarp. I really do mis that on my insta360 rs1 inch

When comparing the photo modes, you say that the X3's photos look much better but, at least to my eyes, the GoPro's image at the 7:58 mark is clearly better than the Insta360's. Same with the example photo right after that one. I'm wondering if perhaps you mislabeled them? In any case, thx for posting that video. I don't have a Max but was curious how it compared to the X3.

@@Lurvas777 the 72 mpixe is a gimmick. tons of compare shots.. its the same as 16mpix or 18mpixel..
it uses the same gimmick as we saw on Air2 by splitting each pixels in numerous.. often called a Quad bayer pixellayer.
it's definitely better but it is also much less zoomed in. it is not comparing the same area and pixel density to area being shown is much lower on insta for that reason... no idea why it is set up like that
I'd add on the waterproof part: my Insta360 X3 was just destroyed as I ziplined into water. The impact caused the USB door to open and the camera was flooded. 😢
oh my gosh! sorry for your loss. You'd expect a bit more robustness for something marked as "waterproof" at that price bracket
c'mon, the fcus is all over the place on the GoPro? 3:14 thats not ideal..
If I didnt had any 360 cam, I would likely go for the X3, or perhaps X2, as I dont see much difference between them.. some shots I prefer X2 and some X3.. find the colorprofile on X3 a tad to greenish at times on human skin.
If I had X2 and wa´nted to upgrade, I would look at 360-1 inch as X3 aitn really a step that makes much sense for the cost... the step from X to X2 was bigger in my virew on pure pixelfidelity, even though the spec bump was a no show.. the footage quality were siginificantly sharper and more vibrant.
the battery been bumped a bit on X3 but also quite a bigger weight and over 20% heavier than X2 and now 180g that is quite an ask for fx drones..
would not even consider a GoPro360 in 2023.. its a dead dino... and far inferior..One R, X2, OneRS, and X3 IMO.
Why do people keep comparing the gopro to the insta x360
Gopro is greedy this days they make an app with subs and no video editor for pc

One of the worst aspects of the Max is that, in common with other GoPro kit, its WiFi in the UK (Europe) does not support 5GHz, so transfers of video are at the painfully slower 2.4GGHz. For a device that is only a couple of years old that is unforgivable. I have the Max and the Insta 360 X2, and it is the X2 that gets to see the light of day very much more than the Max. I really should sell the Max off ...
Mine supports 5GHz in the UK?

Clouds look a lot better on the max imo. I have both and the x3 is a real letdown for outdoor skies/clouds compared to the max. But the x3 software is way better...

Other thing that is anoying on the max, the drift when making video, even on shorts it is noticeable.
7:56 The photo from the max is pretty much 10 times better than the x3
I have a Max, if I smash it in use, I’d replace it with another Max right now, the Insta size and shape and build is just not that of an action camera. One point is that the Quick app is updated regular and has not been abandoned, just not very much in the way of 360 gimmick stuff that Insta’s app has. Thanks for doing the comparison video.
