every time someone says they hate sasuke and that he didn't deserve to be saved i just think to myself wow, how did you manage to watch 700+ episodes of this show and still miss the entire point. the complexity of his character, the anger he feels, the values he holds, and the way those things change as time progresses, more information is released, and he matures is so REAL
Sasuke is the one character who makes me cry the most, just by being Sasuke. He is so complex and knows so much pain, and I feel genuinely sorry for everything that ever happened to him.
The vile things that happened to this kid was really something else. Had to remind myself Naruto was a Shounen and not a Seinen (would've been even worse I bet since the manga did not tone things down). Always thought Sasuke was a Seinen character stuck in a Shounen world.
Same. And somehow every single time I watch a video discussing Sasuke or think about his suffering it makes me cry. More than any fictitious character.
Sasuke is an outstanding character, his complexities are what made him so relatable to me. I often enjoyed when the story focused on him and his team more than Naruto at times.
thats such a lame manipulated answer...the show loves sasuke...I fee they run his flashbacks into the ground so much I stopped caring by the itachi fight...like did they think repeating flashbacks would remind us more than piss us off and thus not sympathize with sasuke?
I used to defend Sasuke solely because I wanted to play devil's advocate, but I actually ended up understanding his character more. I think Sasuke's narrative is important for showing the hipocracy of the leaf.
sasuke is naruto if he didnt have iruka...but see sasuke made his life worse by killing itachi and then taking it out on others ...thats when I lost respect for him ...a normal person admits they got involved with the wrong side for the wrong reason they caused their brothers death and should repent not go deeper into darkness....he became sensui once he realized the side he had been fighting on was dirty..smdh….I was like bitch your not sensui hes far more conflicted then you you already changed sides
i used to defend him because i used to think 5 kage summit sasuke was rlly cool, idk maybe i was just edgy or something but all i wanted to see was sasuke actually destroy the village and see his goals through, i also wanted to see him kill naruto in the end but back then i was only concerned about how powerful people were so i also had wished naruto went all out(since we NEVER have seen him go all out since he went to his prime.)
@@lilac_queen5942 exactly why do people who make these type of videos do this there was a video of madara similar and the narrator said hashirama achieved peace and I was like when after madara and hashirama died tobirama made more wars and hatred towards the uchiha and sasuke is similar in the sense that how is konoha good they're the same people who ordered the death of his clan so why should he go back
@@razkable Repent for causing his brother's death? Itachi manipulated Sasuke into being a revenge driven murderer. Why are people surprised that finding out Konoha ordered his clan's death and made the brother he just killed do it led to him becoming an enemy?
People need to realize that characters like Sasuke are FIFTEEN (15) YEARS OLD living in a world where he is being trained to be a ninja warrior. He is thrown at a lot of other forces that could at any point kill him ALONG with being impressionable around the world he's in (Like any other teenager). Sasuke has gone through so much at as a kid and just got worse as time went further until he finally just went down the road of redemption in Boruto.
A lot of Naruto's messaging is lost because it was popularized to a Western audience that skims over all the nuance. Rewatch the episode. Shikamaru had to put his personal revenge for Asuma aside because it would have gotten him killed by Kakuzu; therefore he had to serve as a Leaf Shinobi so he could strategize. His father had to stop him. Revenge was not the answer for Sasuke either. Had he continued to attack Konoha forever, he would not have done so for the entire village was he had rationalized but instead because of his disdain for how the Shinobi system treated Itachi.
@@shinybreloom4027 Agreed. The context was different for both characters. This being because Sasuke was consumed by his quest for vergence, making him desolate and cold towards the world and his comrades. Ultimately leading to him becoming bitter and insecure around Naruto; viewing him as a sign of his shortcomings to reach Itachi. Distorting Sasuke’s young mind so much so that he tried killing his best friend so that he may finally get his revenge. Whereas Shikamaru, as you said, entered his battle as a Leaf Shinobi best equipped to take down Kakuzu and Hidan. Not rejecting the assistance of his comrades or trying to close off the world because of his grief/rage. Which is why the Leaf Village entrusted him alongside his squad to succeed in their mission. As he had faith in them, they had faith in him. Though I will admit that the Leaf should’ve been more understanding towards Sasuke’s ambition and should’ve chosen their words more wisely when speaking to him of his ‘revenge’. We all have a fight in life and Sasuke’s was Itachi. Also, I watched it Dub and believe to have seen the differences anyways. So there’s that
Sasuke is by far the most misunderstood character of the entire anime. I will never understand how people can be so quick to defend Pain, Gaara, and more for the wrongs they did just because of their tragic past, but not Sasuke. He was born into a cursed clan that is programmed to go through intense trauma because of Sharingan. He went through hell when he was kid, he was mentally tortured by Itachi for hours. Then he believed his only purpose was to kill his own brother. He was manipulated and lied to by the people that should have his best interests at heart. Then when he finally achieves his goal, he learns the heartbreaking truth about Itachi. Konoha organized a mass murder of his clan because they were scared of power. Konoha failed Sasuke. Of course he goes a little crazy, who wouldn't? All these people are acting as if they wouldn't do the same if they were in Sasuke's shoes. Nobody can go through that and be like Naruto, despite how Sasuke haters love to argue. Sasuke was so scared of becoming closer to someone and losing them again, he didn't want to put himself at risk of going through that pain again. He didn't know love, he was pointed at in the streets and people were whispering about him behind his back, just like Naruto. Sasuke didn't go a day without hearing about the masacre. Sasuke has shown multiple times that underneath all that rage and hatred, he's a good guy. He's shown he's ashamed of who he became, but truly, it's not his fault. "Sasuke is a victim of the times we live in." - Hatake Kakashi "Sasuke lost everything overnight and was left all alone for the sake of peace in Konoha." - Uchiha Madara
Honestly Sasuke's character arc when he departed from the village in pursuit of power is what shifted the series of Naruto in a far more intriguing direction (at least for me personally). By making Sasuke leave the village, Kishimoto was then able to use Sasuke as a means to explore the historical world-building of the Naruto world by making Sasuke unravel the secrets of the Uchiha Clan Massacre, which by default needed to explore the generational conflicts of the Warring States Period, mainly with the Senju. Without going down that route, Kishi would have found it difficult to do so because Sasuke would have been restrained by his commitments to the village as a shinobi.
sasuke leaving the village ultimately was pointless..he just caused himself more pain and guilt and had to pay for it since in the end he was back to good and he killed his bro learned the truth and did bad things for what?..more sadness ...it's in the end just a total betrayl of his character to have him just accept a loss like that...his character is dumb
You have a point as much as I hate how the Uchiha took most of the lore space it bring reveal much about the Narutoverse in fact it makes me wonder what if Kishimoto did the same for Naruto unraveling the secrets of the Uzumaki Clan equally as much as the Uchiha for Sasuke with Naruto learning about his clan Konoha kept from him during his training journey with Jiraiya and slowly learning why or how they were nearly eradicated having Naruto understand Sasuke but with the former dealing with the pain of not knowing any other family members due to the other villages causing their destruction only for Naruto to discover Nagato/Pain a fellow Uzumaki who he wanted to take vengeance on just as much as Sasuke wanted vengeance on Itachi which will make Naruto understand Sasuke more because they both wanted to take vengeance on their respective clan members Itachi for killing the Uchiha Clan and Nagato for killing Jiraiya and destroying the Hidden Leaf. Hell maybe by discovering more about the Uzumaki, Naruto would've learned about their blood cousin relations to the Senju Clan.
Add the fact if Kishi had Danzo be the reason why Konoha couldn't save the Uzumaki Clan it'll make Naruto and Sasuke have more in common than ever aaaaand would make the Waterfall of Truth more impactful for Naruto due to Dark Naruto ranting on about how the 3rd, Jiraiya, Kakashi, and Tsunade kept the identity of their clan from them yelling about how strong they would've became to save Sasuke if those 4 got their heads out of their asses and actual helped them learn Sealing Jutsu believing with it they would've incapacitate Sasuke by sealing his chakra that way they would've dragged him back to Konoha. Thus making us see Kakashi, Jiraiya, Hiruzen, and Tsunade in a new light with Jiraiya being his godfather, Tsunade being a distant cousin, Kakashi being his fathers student and Hiruzen for knowing who his father(Despite Minato telling Naruto how he understood why Hiruzen didn't tell him) yet he would understand why they didn't tell him about his father but deep down he would have resentment for them not telling why they didn't tell him about the Uzumakis, he literally has a clan that's scattered out into the wind like the Uchiha dwindled to a handful.
RokuNami4ever (Sora Lockhart) do you know Danzo ordered Itachi to kill Naruto when he ordered him to kill Uchiha clan Anime didn't show anything from Itachi novels
Sasuke was my favorite character because he was so realistic. Not everyone is like Naruto... no many are more like Sasuke. Our perspectives change in life, we change through experiences. Sasuke wasn't a typical antagonist, I sympathized with him and understood him more than any other character. He is misunderstood by many. (sry for my english btw)
An avenger born from the loss of his clan. A shinobi who struggled to protect himself and comrades. A ninja who desires to become stronger. An antagonist rebelling against a corrupt system. An anti-hero who protects from the shadows. A master raising the next generation. Uchiha Sasuke.
Ignoring the hate Sasuke gets due to Naruto's obsession with saving him, he actually made Shippudden way more interesting than it would otherwise have been. I think his highlight was the battle he had with Itachi, a longstanding obstacle that prevented him from moving on. I do feel like he always wanted to surpass Itachi, since during childhood his father was always outspoken about Itachi's genius.
Sasuke is one of the best written characters of the show. The only reason some people don't like him is because they don't fully understand his character. What makes sasuke my favourite character is how achingly human he is. He is driven by emotions, by the anger at the injustice he suffered, and by the love for his kin. Survivor guilt affected him a lot too. He made mistakes. However, one thing that makes me love him so much is his willpower, he will do anything that he thinks needs to be done, screw himself and the rest of the world. Its like, every time he is shattered, he transforms the shattered part into a sharp weapon to retaliate, he takes an insane amount of pain, probably more than anyone else in the series and just keeps going. What sets him apart from typical shounen rivals is how integral he is to the plot. Normally, heroes surpass their rivals and eventually the rivals get pushed back to be supporting characters(albeit prominent ones), however, in the whole ordeal of naruto, I felt like there were always two protagonists, neither of their ways very great, they are the same kids who turned out differently, driven by circumstance, as naruto said, their positions could have easily been reversed. This was the only story, where the hero didn't defeat his rival outright in the final fight, because sasuke isn't a typical rival, he is the equal without whom naruto is complete, without whom balance cannot be found . Yin and yang, dark and light, sasuke and naruto. This is a story of them both, equals, rivals, brothers and best friends.
Sasuke was only written to emo negative qualities that contrast the main lead and pretty much represent the problems of the ninja system by being it's most tragic figure. If Kishimoto cared about his humanity, he would have let him sta in the village instead of going off and joining organizations that keep making his goals more self destructive and horrific. To me, Sasuke was more an underdog than Naruto, he knew from day one who wouldn't find happiness in his goals and the only way he could make something of himself is if he joined Naruto and supported his beliefs for a peaceful ninja world that ironically still runs on the same path as the old one did, Sasuke wanted to destroy the old ninja system but failed now accepts the new ninja system that Naruto now rules over. Tell me how is that strength of will or inspirational?
to each their own, because we all have different understanding of things, but to me, what you said sounds very wrong and simplistic. Kishimoto didn't have to care about his humanity. As i've metioned as well, i think he wanted him to be written as very realistic. What Sasuke ended up being was just one of the human, real life paths. He could have been different, like you mentioned. Staying in the village, right? But he didn't because he wanted to give him a different, darker path. He was consumed by his past and his demons. That happens to people in real life, too. In real life, we all know, things get tough before they get better. Ad i think that's what he aimed for with Sasuke. An "it gets better" scenario.
I literally wonder sometimes if people watched the same show I did........Sasuke was one of the most poorly written characters after fucking sakura..... After Itachi died literally NOTHING sasuke did made any fucking sense ot me anymore.... the cherry on top of the shit-cake was when he declared himself hokage...I was fucking DONE
Sasuke helped me reflect on where I was going in my life growing up. I used to get picked on and feel alienated in what I enjoyed and who I was as a kid to the point that I began to hate everyone. I finally found a character that I related to in the manga of Naruto when Sasuke was introduced in Shonen Jump when I was 13. As he continued to develop, I made two of my greatest friends and realized what they were doing to my character and overall happiness. Together, they made me into a better person and as Sasuke went down his dark path of vengeance I realized I didn't want to follow and found myself liberated from what Sasuke showed me to be the inevitable conclusion of my frame of mind if I kept thinking in that way. Seeing his story come full circle like that really was cathartic and made me appreciate the story and my development even more. Sasuke showed me what I didn't want to become.
@itshollywood0726 I appreciate you sharing your journey with me. I am proud of you for reflecting on it and recognizing your faults. May you continue to shape your own destiny. Be well, brother.
Thats true. Naruto never considered things from Sasukes perspective. No one did, not even Kakashi, who's failed "talk" just made it worse. No one in Konoha took the time to understand and connect with Sasuke, and that's their fault, not Sasuke's.
Also, Itachi's treatment and plans for Sasuke were wrong and cruel. Sasuke wasn't right in attacking the village and the kage summit, but I completely understand why he did it. Konoha did not deserve Sasuke or Itachis loyalty, and itachi was wrong to choose the corrupt village over his family, and, to an extent, over his little brother, by trying to manipulate Sasuke and force him to go back through a genjutsu that would take away Sasuke's free will.
@@helenawheaton5577 i get your point but i don't think you should say things like "He was wrong, he SHOULD have chosen his family", like, heck, he did his best in his convictions at the time and in all ways possible to keep the world stable and protect it... He made his mistakes but like can you judge him... Y'know what i mean? If you get into all sorts of things Itachi is a very relatable character. Very close to the reader
@@helenawheaton5577 I almost completly agree with you expect the Itachi part. It was obvious for him, the hokage and elders that if Uchiha will attack it will be death for everyone. Regardless who would win, any other nation could then attack weakened Konoha. All clans and villagers would be doomed. Itachi has made the right choice for choosing Uchiha slaughter. As for Sasuke, yeah that's questionable a bit but I guess he wanted to make him eventually the hero of village and to be judged by Uchiha for what he had to do. Indeed it was cruel and didn't quite work out as he wanted. As he admitted multiple times during Kabuto enounter about himself - Itachi ultimately was a failure and he is aware of it.
@@helenawheaton5577 I totally agree but I just cant fault Itachi either, The third hokage was spineless and completely ignored Danzou's shady politics. The third didn't even confront Danzou after Kyubi's attack when Anbu didn't take part in the rescue. After Kyuubi's attack everyone blamed the Uchiha and the situation became very oppressive towards the uchiha clan. The uchiha clan was at a breaking point too. But instead of a negotiation the village decided for a genocide. Also both itachi and Shusui were too submissive towards danzou when ms sasuke was able to beat him. This part was a bad writing on kishi's part, sure if it were realistic then Itachi had to follow danzou, but itachi himself is probably the strongest one back then except minato in the konoha....
Both Sasuke, Itachi, the Uchiha, the leaf and many people in real life have one fatal flaw, and that is lacking talk no jutsu. Had the Uchiha and the village decided to talk it out they might have found a compromise. Had Itachi and shisui found allies in their clan and village and tried to convince people that they are allies from the same village not enemies they might have made a difference, the difference between a purge of extremists and a total genocide. Had people tried to understand Sasuke after what Itachi did and give him proper mental care as a kid straight out of a ptsd inducing event he might not have had so many issues. Had Sasuke talked to naruto and shared his burden with him instead of compromising and expecting naruto, who didn't have the maturity to see things from sasuke's perspective, to reciprocate. Had Kakashi tried to understand Sasuke and took the time to explain to him that strenght wasn't everything, instead of tying him up and giving him a condescending speech, he might've convinced him. Something as simple as : "You're not strong enough to beat Itachi, even I was not, but remember, I wasn't strong enough to free myself from zabuza's water prison, but you and naruto helped me do it, you weren't strong enough to defeat haku, but by teaming up with naruto you managed to prevail. Find allies, people who understand you and care for you, grow alongside them, protect them, and let them protect you, and when the day comes, if you still care about vengeance, they will help you bring him to justice together. Your brother is a monster, and monsters aren't matched or looked up to, they are hunted" Could've made a difference So on and so forth But sadly only the retarded blonde brat with whiskers had the maturity to understand that sometimes, talking to someone can go a long way
Every time I see Sasuke smile when he says that he lost makes me think about how deep down inside, he needed this defeat. He knows this path is wrong, this is not the correct way to do this, but he's just too compromised to go back, if he turned back now what would await for him? But he still *wants* to go back, he wants those bonds, but since Naruto was never able to prove him wrong he had no reason to go back, but when he lost he had a reason, he had been proven wrong, and he was happy to know that the dark lonely path he was walking was not the correct one.
this is so true, its as if he had always felt that what he was doing was not right, but noone could really materialize why since he did have some heavy food for thought about the world, at least until Naruto confronted him
@@Turquoisekitten9 cause they’re idiots. They don’t have the intelligence empathize with him and everything he’s gone through. I come back here once in a while cause this is literally the only comment section I’ve seen that understands Sasuke’s character. Y’all don’t hate on him for dumb stuff and realized how much of a character development he had throughout shippuden.
Right? It's rare to see logical discussion and EMPATHY/SYMPATHY for a child/teenage boy who had a lot of vile things done to him and his world continuing to crumble the more he discovered how the world actually was. Tragic. Even as an adult, Sasuke acts like a veteran who came back from WW2 - almost killing his daughter + almost killing another child until she yells from him to stop.
My favorite thing about Naruto and Sasuke’s final fight is the look on Sasuke’s face when he admits he lost. He’s smiling, like he’s relieved about it. Happy to admit he was wrong, happy he was saved from himself.
Exactly I hate when people call him emo but ignore characters they like who are more emo like pain gaara madara obito but defend them I like madara but he is easily more emo than sasuke
Exactly! That’s why people love and hate him. Sasuke is probably the most relatable character the show had to offer. Whether you agree or disagree with his decisions, they are easy to understand why he chose them.
@@aggressivepianonoises813 actually thank u because noone has ever told me so directly that they agree with me in this subject JKASDFJKLDJAS i also felt really validated so tyvm
Sasuke is honestly the best part of Naruto for me. People like to say that he's a murder and terrorist but that is far from the case. Yes, he attacked the kage summit but the original plan was to tail Danzou then attack after the summit but Zetsu spoiled their plan and forced them to fight or be caught. Orochimaru even said that Sasuke didn't kill anyone during his time with him and he went on to take out orochimaru and free all the prisoners the snake man held captive. Sasuke was never consumed by darkness and hatred as the series would like readers to believe but he was a victim of genocide, systematic oppression, and severe mental trauma at the hands of ltachi and the konoha higher-ups. Even worse is that the Uchiha clan helped build konoha but then the 2nd hokage gave them a prison as a home, made them all into police to increase tension between the uchiha and konoha, and created the curse of hatred because of his fear of the sharingan yet it's been shown that sharingan can awaken due to positive emotions like Sarada, kid Obito and sasuke protecting his friends. Seriously this series wants readers to believe that people are evil because of genetics. It should be noted that Madara was the only Uchiha who left konoha in his lifetime and the rest of the clan stayed loyal yet konoha blamed them all for the 9 tails attack and began to persecute them by pushing them to the outskirts of the village and preventing them from taking part in konoha politics. Then when they planned a coup several years afterwards all the konoha higher-ups except 3rd hokage wanted them dead (Danzou was even gonna do it with the anbu). ln an effort to stop the uchiha, ltachi and Shishui planned on using genjutsu but Danzou ripped Shishui's eye out and drove him to suicide but why ltachi didn't report this to 3rd is beyond me. Then Danzou and ltachi in chapter 590 of the manga decide to kill all the Uchiha despite the 3rd's wishes for a peaceful resolution. Itachi agrees and gets the help of Obito to do it. Despite the fact that Obito was a rogue ninja and Itachi foolishly led him to konoha to kill the uchiha and did nothing to stop him afterward in case he wanted to attack konoha plus, Itachi's actions allowed Obito and Danzou to get Uchiha eyes and konoha became weaker because they lost an entire clan. Sometimes I wish Danzou's sharingan arm was shown to all of konoha on screen and then we could see their reaction and know as an audience whether or not konoha supports such things. Then Itachi puts Sasuke in a severe 24 hr mental genjutsu, tells him to kill his best friend (Who would be a konoha citizen and thus make Sasuke a criminal), get strong through hate, and leaves him to take care of himself. Even konoha did nothing to help Sasuke recover at all. Sasuke grows on his own trying to get stronger and is assigned to team 7 where he slowly starts to heal but then ltachi comes to konoha. After that encounter, he is left with a broken arm and in another 24-hour genjutsu that needed healing from Tsunade to escape from. Getting healed by Tsunade makes him feel weak as he now believes he needs help to beat Itachi thus leading him to leave konoha and gain training from Orochimaru. Then later when Sasuke finds out the truth that ltachi purposefully kept hidden he obviously goes ballistic and wants the konoha elders dead. But people just write him off as "emo" and "edgy" without a second thought. To some extent, this may be true but he is a loner because his older brother took everything away from him and made it hard for him to trust or open up to others again. It also doesn't help that Naruto wanted to force him back to konoha and even agreed to keep the uchiha genocide a secret at edo ltachi's request. Kakashi gave up on Sasuke and tried to end him personally. Sakura tried to force her feelings onto Sasuke when he didn't care about her romantically at all. I also find it funny that for all the nonsense about Sasuke will attack konoha he never actually harmed konoha in any way unlike Itachi. And though most say that edo ltachi recognized his mistakes l don't see it as edo ltachi still pushes Sasuke away as he withheld the truth till Sasuke almost forced a promise on him and he refused to acknowledge his mistake in what he turned Sasuke into. He even said that "Sasuke is Naruto's problem now" and he stupidly believes that a 7-year-old Sasuke can do things better than a 13-year-old ltachi. Lastly, even though Itachi was a spy in Akatsuki we never actually see him leak any info on Akatsuki in any way, shape or form. If anything Itachi made Akatsuki stronger and even attacked konoha to kidnap Naruto. Also, in the anime, Itachi defeated Orochimaru but never killed him and did nothing to stop Deidera even though Deidera said he wanted to end Sasuke.
I can justify what itachi did by saying he was trying to uphold shisui will by trying to protect the village and UPHOLD THE UCHIHA name. He considered shisui as a big brother who BTW was a grandson of an Uchiha (forgot his name but) who fought along side danzou sarutobi and was a subordinate of none other than who else if you watch the show lord 2nd hokage tobirama senju and shisui was acknowledged for that by lord 3rd. Itachi understood the dilemma the lead village was in. Killing the Uchiha in itachis eyes was not only justified but mandatory wen danzou did that phukk shyt. Itachi had no other choice telling hiruzen may have finally been wat woyldve ended danzo but remember sarutobi forgave danzou for trying to kill him when danzou practically admitted it. Itachi understood wat the village and konoha needed an working with danzou was was only way to accomplish this but itachi invents a compromise he protected sauske his little bro. He wanted sauske to not only make up for his mistakes but to understand this yes compromises are needed in this world but through team work of the right people
@@donnyjones6717 If Itachi was trying to uphold Shishui's will then he should have told 3rd hokage that Danzo ripped out Shishui's eye and drove him to suicide not keep quiet about it. In chapter 590 of the manga 3rd told everyone in that room including Danzo and itachi that he wanted to resolve things peacefully but the two of them went behind 3rd's back. So Itachi had a choice as he chose Danzo over 3rd on two occassions. Plus, Itachi is a fool for bringing a rogue ninja (Obito) into konoha territory to kill the uchiha then letting that rogue go. This allowed both Danzo and Obito to get uchiha eyes for their own purposes. This is like bringing a thief into your own house and helping him take everything. If this is how Itachi decifes to uphold the Uchiha name then he failed. Also, killing the Uchiha weakens konoha as they have lost manpower. Working with Danzo is useless because Danzo is the one who held back the Uchiha during the 9 tails attack and during Pain's attack Danzo hid and didn't help protect konoha despite having a private army. Itachi screwed Sasuke over by killing everyone precious to him, mindraping him for 24 hours straight and leaving him to fend for himself. That's hardly protecting one's younger brother. And why should Sasuke make up for his mistakes? Sasuke had no say in any of this and Itachi selfishly forced everything into him and expected him to somehow turn out fine.
you know what i hate the most? is that you having to write facts from the show that was clear enough for anyone to understand and yet people hate his character and turn ignorant towards his mental health 😭🤚🏻 hopefully more people read your thing and understand fr
@@wasi6798 Yes, that's what I meant to say, although I worded it poorly. The video says Sasuke could have ignored Naruto when Naruto was chasing him, but he didn't ignore him for some lingering affection for him (which is probably true in part). But Sasuke's stated reason for wanting to fight Naruto was in order to kill him and awaken the Mangekyou. But in the end he could not bring himself to do that. Whether for care for Naruto, or not wanting to do things Itachi's way, or both.
I always think Sasuke is a Seinen protagonist trapped in Shounen world where he doesn't belong because of his complex point of view and everything that comes along. If you look at the ninja world from Naruto's view is basically bad guys going against Konoha, saving friends and becoming the strongest and the hero, getting all the attention and being always right. But from Sasuke's view there's a more realistic and mature touch, you fight against a goverment who oppressed your clan and possible have killed you when you were a kid which you didn't know for 17 years and used to fight for. Having a brother delusionally believing he did the right thing by killing your family for a broken system, mental abuse, revange etc. Sasuke gets a lot of hate for his personality and misunderstood intentions. Any character similar to him I see in other manga/anime doesn't get as much hate as him. A character that come close in my mind may be Guts from Berserk, edgy personality, fighting for revenge, mental abuse (surprising a cursed mark too). The difference is that in Berserk his actions and intentions are portrayed in a good understanding and serious way. As for Sasuke where he's pretty much taken as a joke and considered just another broken character. Because in Narutoverse only Naruto's needs count since he's the protagonist and he's point of view is showed the most. Most characters who come along with him either have similar or the same reasons as him or nothing else. And the rest of the cast that go against him or what he's protecting is labeled as a bad guy. Sasuke has all the reasons to make a revolution against the Konoha sistem that allows slavery and oppression, shinobi system that creates child soldiers, some of them being national weapons(with tailed beasts) and doesn't need to be sorry to anyone especially Konoha, the only ones he should be sorry are just Killer B and team taka. If Sasuke had his own story without characters like Naruto who cover all the bullshit and puts it in a good light the story would have a different turn and a different meaning.
I think Madara is also like that. Hmm, maybe being Indra's reincarnations got something to do with their similar nature. Ashura's reincarnations (Hashirama and Naruto) are boring compared to Indra's who actively search for better answers, unlike Ashura's who are settling for one thing and preferring to be silent and still (ironically, both Hashirama and Naruto mastered Senjutsu chakra and they have to be still so yeah)
Man, if Sasuke was the MC, he’d be universally loved instead of having a large fanbase with a very vocal batch of haters. The main reason Sasuke gets so much flack is because he is just as relevant as Naruto and the rival isn’t allowed to do that. People wanted him to be Gaara or Neji, a stepping stone to further Naruto’s journey or show how strong he was but Sasuke grew to be more than that and to western fans that is an unforgivable sin because no can be more important than the MC. Sasuke is the on Shonen rival who stands as a character in his own right and since most Naruto fans can’t understand nuance they hate him for stealing Naruto’s spotlight. I do take comfort in the fact that at least In the Japanese fandom Sasuke enjoys the universally popularity he deserves. The American fandom could only wish it was half as smart.
@4um4rs That makes me curious. What makes Sasuke and especially Sakura likable to the original Japanese audience but makes them hated in west? I know Sasuke still has a major fanbase here yet at the same time he’s disliked for being reduced to an emo edgelord(even though most of us would be moody too if our whole family got murdered and doubly if it was by your favorite family member) and I don’t think I need to delve into why Sakura is disliked. Is the west missing the original context and nuance? Do they behave in a way that’s obviously culturally acceptable to the intended Japanese audience yet will rub western viewers the wrong way?
@@lufsolitaire5351 It's not about East vs West, Sasuke has many haters in Japan too. It's about midwits who read the story superficially and self-insert themselves into Naruto's character vs readers with actual reading comprehension who are capable of grasping the story's complexity even that sometimes leads to a fundamental disagreement with the author's overarching message (as is the case with many Sasuke fans who were dissatisfied with the ending to his character arc).
Naruto would have been better show if it was called sasuke When i started watching Naruto as early teen i hated sasuke because i like most other saw themselves in naruto a under dog but as i grew up I realised how much dept and complexity he has as a character where naruto was boring asf and naruto sasuke dynamic got completely ruined due to reincarnation retcon also kishimoto completely ruined naruto ‘s character sasuke has better peaks and character arc than naruto
0:39 He wasn't impossible to root for, for me. I've always liked sasuke and felt that everything he did made a lot of sense. For example. He loved itachi, but loving someone doesn't always mean you agree with their ideals. Itachi believed in village over clan, while sasuke believe in vengeance against the ones responsible for the murder of his entire family. Something itachi would never have done. I agree with sasukes ideals, up till the point he wants to destroy the entire village. That isn't justice, but to kill Danzo and try to reshape the world into a better one isn't bad to me
Oh, and he was also an ahole to a lot of people like karin and sakura for a short period of time but it's all good since he changed and none of them died and the whole world owes their life to naruto and sasuke anyway
@@never5930 kinda like how Gaara was an Asshole to Temari, Kankuro and the Majority of the sand village. But its all good since he apologized and none of them died and he became the Kazekage.
I agree. He went too far with that destroying Konoha bit but the boy was pretty much traumatized at that moment by the truth about Itachi. He was 6 years old when his entire clam was massacred by the brother he loved the most, he was a kid. He was 16 when he found out the very village that he thought to be innocent was the one who's responsible for the Ichiha massacre and pushed him to the point of killing his brother, still a kid. And kids doesn't reacts to traumas around them, they lash out. I know it, i used to be 16 years old as well. So while i may not agree with his actions, i understand why he did it. And kudos to Kishi for writing a character based on how they supposed to feel at the circumstances, not on how the plot is supposed to be
Kinda got impossible for me to root for him when he was pretty much responsible for killing Itachi and then decided to destroy the village the guy gave his life- in more ways than one- to protect.
@@infamousplayer8772 i understand. But i dont view the village as somethung solely worthy to protect just because itachi died for it. Just like everywhere else, konaha was also corrupt to some degree and was responsible for many terrible things, and honestly, so were the uchiha clan in some ways
I didnt really care about Karin as a character but when Sasuke betrayed her it struck me right in the heart. If there is one thing I know in this world above all else, it's betrayal. My heart broke a bit at that scene. Poor girl.
The saddest part about that is Karin also had a horrible past. She was mistreated and molested. She even saw her mother being killed, she is always alone and had no where else to go. They can understand each other just like how naruto and sasuke connected. Sasuke saved her life that is why she fell in love with him. Sasuke is like her only light.
Never thought sasuke was a badly written character since I actually took the TIME to watch naruto from ep 1 to the end of shippuden and TRY to understand his perspective and way of thinking. But people wanna write him off as bad cause they don't like watching fillers and only pay attention to the action :/
Seriously, this video was great. I was a lot younger when I watched Naruto, on top of that, the length of the series and the constant filler episodes made it hard for me to properly grasp the themes or the more subtle character developments. At points I would completely forget characters motivations, let alone come to an understanding of those motivations. This video truly makes me want to revisit the series as you have legitimately opened my eyes. I may sound hyperbolic but I'm just genuinely in awe of how I missed such clear themes of compromise. It also never once occurred to me that in their first big battle Naruto was somewhat in the wrong. Like I completely missed the point of Sasuke's characters and the overall role he served to the plot. I guess it didn't help that I would watch reviews by people like Foneverworld, nothing against the guy but the discussion on the series was typically very surface level. This video was insane, and I can't wait for more!
Aha, can't believe you recognised me lol. But yeah, I think Craftsdwarf is extremely good at analysis, probably one of the best anime analysis channels imo, I always find he has something interesting to say.
Oh for sure, that would also be one of my criticisms; I often have to pause or backtrack to try and make sense of some of the things he says. It also doesn't help that relative to me, his vocabulary can at times be quite complex so occasionally I'll have to pause the video to shamefully google definitions lol.
The edge is not hard to swallow unless you're a mainstreamer. Sasuke's angst is justified and lovable. If you see someone you care for, taken from you by others, such anger and angst are completely justified. To hate on a perfectly rational response reeks of social pretense. Yes, when you're put into an unreasonable situation like Sasuke, the most rational response is Victim's Stance Complex. It is inherently robotic to put aside your own love and compassion for the sake of appearing socially acceptable. Hence the disdain for "edge" as the only reason why it doesn't have place in society, is that such "edge" would be its unraveling. Which is why people are compelled to repel their own honest, earnest desires, to function in society. Yet the question must be asked. Is it really right to support a society built on repression and suppression of one's own dreams and self-expression? Last I checked, society was meant in a historical context to benefit all of its constituents, not thrive upon a demographic of people being driven to misery and failure. So I find Sasuke's "edge" perfectly judged by a similarly rigid society. Easy to swallow, simple to accept. To truly accept someone is to acknowledge and forgive their flaws. Those who find the "edge" hard to swallow, demonstrate an unnecessary amount of immaturity for the sake of pretense. People come with flaws and therefore those who can't stomach a real aspect of the world, are simply immature.
Thank you for this. I am 2 years late to this comment but it perfectly sums up the psyche of the superficial. Its as if the cosmetic packaging should be socially acceptable as it is all that matters. Perhaps people are that dense that they cannot understand human reactions to the situations and their context. Reaction is in response to something. It cannot be taken in isolation. The "edge" is a reactionary mechanism to his extreme trauma. Sasuke's outward projection cannot be considered in isolation just for the sake of it because it doesn't exist like that. By discarding all the context, by discarding the inhuman suffering he's subjected to and labelling all that as "emo edgelord", congratulations, you became socially acceptable by being an apathetic asshole (what you accuse Sasuke of).
"Shinobi are people, not tools" is definitely a running theme in the series. It came back full circle in the 4th Great Ninja War Arc as that idea was what lead to Sasori being undone from Reanimation as well as the plea from other resurrected ninja being used as tools to be defeated.
calling sasuke emo and edgy is just a cop out for people who hate sasuke (9yo olds) , they don't even have a nice arguement they only know two words about sasuke 'edgy' and 'emo'
How DARE you make a compelling argument for Naruto's Talk no Jutsu being a reasonable character development to mature him enough to be ready and able to accept Sasuke back. Now I have to cry more than I already freaking have over these two.
"There was once a man who refused to heed the words of others and sought power regardless of the method. . . and tried to change the world by himself. He paid for it dearly. However, in the end, a friend saved him" --- Uchiha Sasuke
again its all Naruto ..sasuke had to be stopped not accepting of Naruto....which is why their fights after part 1 make no sense...he tries killing Naruto but yet we are suppose to act like hes fully changed just cause its a draw?...in reality that's not true...
Sasuke Uchiha is #1 favorite character in naruto besides other characters! It bothers me that people say sasuke deserves to die and/or to be in prison forever! They don't understand sasuke's character he was the most"humanely written" character in naruto besides Gaara!
The Legendary Shogun sasuke is by far my favorite character as well, but saying he doesn’t deserve to be in prison is a bit ridiculous. If sasuke would have stayed in prison that would have been a satisfactory end to his character in my opinion
Sasuke was one of the best characters in Naruto not just because of his overwhelming abilities but because of how he lived, the multiple what if moment's especially with the theories fans like to come up with and he also gave Naruto a reason to get stronger and become the shinobi he is today. Also Sasuke is just so bad ass
This is a fucking legend of a video. I seriously have no words as you have perfectly done Sasuke from my perspective I can definitely relate to this vision of Sasuke. You have truly made a wonderful video. Definitely a sub from me.
I've recently said that I hated Sasuke but i dont think it sits right. I really only saw him for his actions and not his convictions. But i think i hated him because of how real he was and how he reflected myself. He's just too human, it really hurts.
A competent rival whose almost always stronger if not "equal" to the main character. Important from start til end (never tossed aside & replaced like usual). Actually defeats main villians. Is independent enough that he doesn't rely on the mc for relevance, leading his own arcs. Isn't outshined by the mc - story makes it clear they're both needed as they work together to defeat villians (Obito, Madara, Kaguya, Momoshiki). Remains undefeated (physically) by the end. Having won multiple times. Unique character shifts that made the series more interesting (leaving Konoha, rebelling against the corrupt ninja system, overcoming his desire for revenge when speaking to the Hokage to gain knowledge, having his own plan for peace, reconciling with his team, taking Boruto as his student). Sasuke is without a doubt, one of, if not the best rival character.
Ok so Sasuke isn’t my favorite character in the series. However I do think he is a pretty well written character. Think about this imagine seeing everyone you’ve ever know and ever truly loved killed by the person you look up to most. So you become a full on introvert and put the weight of killing the person who cause your pain on your shoulders alone. Not just for revenge but you see it as a moral duty to rid the world of true evil. That was his burden. So now imagine that you were forced to join a team that yes you would grow attached to but also eventually see the bonds you have made with them as holding you back. You begin to stagnate in power while your teammate thrives. Your inferiority grows even further and you start feeling worthless as your team has saved your life against someone who is far weaker then the person you need to kill. So now you decide to abandon these bonds in order the get stronger. And so you eventually “kill” the person who caused all your pain. Now what do you do. Now imagine that the person that you saw as the embodiment of evil. The person who took away everyone you’ve ever loved. Imagine that he did all of this to save you and he was forced to do so by the leaders of a nation you were once apart of. Imagine the entire base of your morality has shaken to its core and you now have to start from scratch. What do you do? Can just let the person who caused your suffering off easy? Or do you try to make sure something like what happened to you can never happen to anyone else? So you now wish to destroy the place that you now see as true evil. And you kill one of the people responsible for your suffering. But your curious as to why exactly did the event that changed your life happen in the first. So you learn the history of the world and now you have more questions now there’s no single outlet for your rage. Why did your brother kill your family? Well because he was force to do so by world leaders. Well the world leaders only did so because your family was planning a revolution and the nation didn’t need any more destabilization. Well why was the nation so destabilized? Well because a terroist attacked the nation a decade earlier. Well why did the terrorist attack your nation? Because his morality was destroyed by war that the world has been fighting for centuries. Well now you know what caused your suffering the failure of society. So what do you do? Do you let the world continue as it is and quite possibly let something that happen to you happen to someone else? Or do you change the world so nothing like that can ever happen again? That is Sasuke’s burden that is why he does what he does. Some one ruined his life and he doesn’t want that to happen to anyone else. However he burns every bridge he’s ever crossed along the way falling further into darkness until the one person who never gave up on him brought him back to the light. Sasuke may not be my favorite character in Naruto. He may be an edgelord who puts no thoughts into his action and just seems to be the grumpy rival trope. But considering his story and his very morality. I think he is a very well written character.
Well said, I dont understand how people hate on Sasuke and still be able to say "I'd die for my mother"...Sasuke is a literal example of throwing your life away because you love your family
Ur conclusions about Sasuke compromising with Naruto are right on point. Sasuke did what Indra and Madara couldn’t and that is accept second place or coexistence with Naruto. But the difference is Sasuke and Naruto are true equals whereas the Sage of Six Paths decided that Ashura was superior to Indra and Madara just was literally not as powerful as Hashirama so there could never be any true compromise between them as equals on equal footing because Hashirama was inherently stronger/superior. But Naruto and Sasuke were true rivals that were individually equally powerful when compared or contrasted to one another. Ur right that the thing that gave Naruto the edge was his bonds and alliances with Kurama and the other ninjas whereas Sasuke was fighting alone even when he was in a group. Sasuke only grudgingly and reluctantly accepted help whereas Naruto cultivated it. That all goes back to Indra and Ashura and the Sage of Six Paths favoring Ashura because of how he worked with and bonded with others and assuming that he could get Indra to go along and work with him too as a subordinate. But Indra couldn’t accept being subordinate to Ashura just like Madara couldn’t accept being subordinate to Hashirama and the world that the God of Shinobi was making even though his friend begged and pleaded with him to accept the program and work with him to achieve their shared dream of world peace. But Madara couldn’t accept that. I thought the 4th Hokage giving Kurama to Naruto is what really made the difference because whether he knew it or not Naruto always had a partner inside him whereas Sasuke just had himself. Kurama’s power and chakra are the only things that allowed Naruto to surpass/equal Sasuke even during their last fight which Sasuke would have won if not hot Kurama giving Naruto all of his remaining chakra for that one last exchange that wound up costing both Naruto and Sasuke an arm. But even then Sasuke was able to concede the victory to Naruto even though he didn’t technically lose which is something Indra and Madara could never do. And that produced the compromise you talked about with Sasuke agreeing to do things Naruto’s way for the most part. True compromise between equals.
I always saw Sasuke as a character who is part of the Naruto character, like the Joker to Batman. From the beginning of the story, Sasuke was always doomed to fall down the path of revenge and Naruto's unwavering certanty that one day he would be able to save his friend is the essence of the story. I like it how Kishimoto first sets them as kids rivals , then as friends, and when Sasuke is finally turning away from the dark path, everything comes crushing down. From then on, Sasuke, the Uchiha prodigy of the leaf, first has the full support of the village and they are all desperatly trying to bring him back. As the story developes and Sasuke keeps falling darker and darker, so diminishes the support from the village, first the Elders, then his friends, and finally even team 7 gives up, all except Naruto who despite the whole world telling him forget Sasuke, not only insiste that there is no doubt he will turn Sasuke back, he's also able to inspire Hope on others.
Thank you for this video!! I've heard a lot of people say Sasuke is a bad character and I disagreed but I couldn't figure out why. There's just so much to his character throughout his journey, and it's too much for some people. But as someone with an older brother, you can truly identify how he feels throughout the show
Kishimoto's writing always seems to lean on seinen level with characters like Sasuke but has to keep it consistent with shonen themes as he is writing for Jump.
Sasuke was seeking authenticity and realized that he had to sacrifice his relationships to go down that path of authenticity but later realized Naruto accepted him unconditionally regardless of who he was or what he became.
It's the Rant Cafe debating shonen villains where I guested on. When we get to Madara, somehow the topic switched to Sasuke end I mentioned the upcoming video.
Can we turn the sasuke alone cuts into a meme? That was the most accidentally hilarious thing ever. Best video on Sasuke possibly ever; wouldn't expect anything less from Craftsdwarf :P
Sasuke is easily the best character in the series if we don't count Madara (and if it wasn't for Naruto's talk no jutsu, he would have surpassed him in every way). Sasuke learns from the world around him. People don't get him at all. His revenge is not a selfish obsession, he is determined to bring justice to those who killed his entire family, since no one else will. His goal of destroying the Leaf is not madness, it's about punishing the corrupt elite. His character only got even better after talking to Itachi, and that hardly seemed possible. Sasuke's revolution without a doubt is the most solid plan and close to perfection there has been in the series. Better than Pain's and Madara's because true peace and cooperation exists in his world, add the fact that he's not a puppet with ideas put in his head by a higher power. And it's most certainly better than Naruto's foolish idealisms. Like I said, Sasuke observed, Sasuke learned. He realized that union between nations was possible thanks to a threat like Madara. So he put every selfishness he had left in him behind and decided to become that threat himself, forever. People don't get his goals in this scenario either. Sasuke does not plan to become a dictator, he does not think he has the authority the rule. He'll just be there. Watching from the shadows. Any corruption and potential threat will be eradicated. But good developments, he won't intervene there at all. He's literally a Batman with superpowers, with a global territory, and no "no killing" rule holding him back. An absurdly great anti hero. Too bad this is a shonen and we had to have the happy ending. Sasuke could have been so good. I would like to add, Sasuke's character could have greatly benefitted from a romance with Sakura actually taking place in the series. Not only would that have made people see Sasuke with a better perspective, but all the shortcomings Sakura's character has would have been gone. Because Sakura was such a great character at the beginning of Shippuden. She was no longer an annoying little girl, she was a great medic with strong and legit convictions and even beat a fucking Akatsuki. It was only when Sasuke entered the picture what made her go back to an irrational girl. If said love for Sasuke was real, no one would have a problem with that. And I really think that this love of hers is not an obsession, but a very real thing that was put in the backseat by Kishimoto, but it was still there and he gave us plenty of hints. Still, I maintain that he should have actually made it real and a big plot point like he obviously wanted. Seeing how Sasuke actually ended up marrying Sakura and having a child with her, we can't throw out the window that Sakura was perhaps Sasuke's greatest weakness, and not his friendship with Naruto. Him trying to kill Sakura means he knows that love is holding him back. That is why he did it, to get rid of that burden that was standing between him and his goals. Also, he wasn't able to kill her and used genjutsu on her. That says a lot about his limits and introduces a glaring flaw to what he wants to become. If all of this had been properly and fully fleshed out, it would open the door to amazing potential stories, such as Sasuke trying to convince Sakura to join him, or him looking for descendance to continue on for him, along with giving Sakura an amazing arc of conflict trying to save Sasuke and question the black and white world that Naruto is trying to sell to everyone, which simply doesn't exist. It's such a shame we didn't get that. We can blame this being a shonen or crazy NaruSaku shippers, still, we missed it and it's a damn shame.
While I agree that Sasuke is still pretty great as of right now, I think that the realistic approach, what Sasuke would really do in the future, is ditch Naruto and go back to his "evil" ways much like Madara did after founding the Hidden Leaf Village. What would really keep him "in the light" is his wife and daughter, which I like to think about it that way, even if the series won't adress such a fascinating thing, not to mention that one must ask himself what would happen if Sakura or Sarada died? Would Sasuke change back? The answer is a very obvious yes. The Boruto series purposely avoids the issues presented in Shippuden, because there is no way that Naruto's idealisms solved them. I mean, how are shinobi maintaining themselves if there is no conflict? The natural response is, there is still conflict, which means, Naruto has failed. Yes, there are no more grand scale wars, but there are still problems. "Democracy and cooperation are quieter forms of conflict" we have already been here with Madara. Before you know it, things will escalate, and we are still trapped in the vicious cycle of hatred. This is the thing about Naruto, it deals with pretty heavy and philosophical stuff, but it can't go "balls deep" because children watch this too. It's crazy to think that Madara, Pain and Sasuke are not only correct in this fictional world, their philosophies apply to the real world too.
@@TheJotaroKujo Ssly dude....Madara's way is THE ONLY WAY for true peace in this hatred ridden world although it is a very extreme one and Madara understood that, he foresaw the future of shinobi world way before Hashirama or any other kage ever did....
The fact that the dynamic relationship between Sasuke and Naruto actually has so much meaning behind it makes it even more disappointing to me that they are just reincarnations of Indra and Ashura
Ahhh, i was waiting for this video... grats on 10k!! (let's see if i'm convinced XD) EDIT: Great video, really great, i definitely see your side better now, although my position on Sasuke hasn't changed :)
I think Sasuke is a strong aspect of the series. And I think many people read some of his acts wrong. He DOES like Naruto and Sakura. That's why he tried to leave the village in the middle of the night without them knowing. If he had really planned to murder Naruto, then why leave Konoha first? He could have simply visited Naruto, waited until the knuckelhead turned his back and just stabbed him or something. But he wants Naruto to stay alive and fulfil his dream (he even says so, kinda, when they first meet in Shippuden). And even when they fight in the final valley (and let's remember that the curse mark is obviously having a strong influence on his hate and pain, like a drug) he still tries to talk Naruto out of a fight. Why doe that if he DOES want to kill Naruto? Yes, he does it in a rude manner, but only becouse it would (1) be more painful to have a friendly and kind conversation - and (2) he knows that Naruto can't be on this mission all alone (I mean, why else should the sound Ninja be missing?). And it is only when Naruto refuses to leave that Sasuke tries to swallow down his feelings and get the "Job done". And yet, he can't bring himself to really kill his comrade. In his eyes the hidden leaf failed to kill his brother - or atleast put him in Jail. The third Hokage - in theory the strongest Ninja in the village - was killed by Orochimaru. And Sasukes Teacher was defeated by Itachi as well. AND Itachi - as he says in Sasukes presence - is part of an secret, most likely evil Organisation. So time is running out. And did you notice how quickly Orochimaru arrives at the end of Sasukes first Shippuden Fight with Naruto? Doesn't that imply that he was keeping an eye on this confrontation for some time now? And woudn't Sasuke see through that? I think he speculated that Sai would stop his attack. He hates Orochimaru (even says so). And I don't think that he ever planned to give that guy his body. But in becoming Orochimarus apprentice he could do three Things: Keep an eye on that guy. Obtain further strengh. Take down another villain on his quest to stop Itachi from cousing more harm. Before the Kage Meeting Sasuke does all he can to never peform an unnecessary kill. Even in the training with Orochimaru. I dare to speculate that Sasuke wanted to murder Itachi in order to prevent people going through the same nightmare as him. And once that would of been done, he would of gone in to exil, find a small village and live a peaceful life as a farmer, guard or something. Or return to the leaf and explain himself. He isn't an idiot. He knows that Tobi isn't his friend. That he told the truth about Itachi, becouse he knew that Sasuke could never forget that, live on. So he could use him for his own goals. But the fact remains, that he DOES now know the truth. And let's not forget that Sasuke is now a Rogue Ninja. And Kakashi clearly states that Rogue Ninjas get killed. The only reason why Tsunade didn't order for that was becouse she knew how Naruto would feel, maybe she was able to see though Sasukes deception towards Orochimaru, hoping he would come back after this. Hoped, that Team 7 (similar to her own) coud experience a better ending. Remember when Sasuke noticed how Konoha followed him (after he "killed" Orochimaru) and he destroyed Narutos Shadow Clone? Sasuke doesn't feel worthy of love. So from his positon it makes no sense that Naruto (still) would think of him as a friend. He must think Naruto now (in the best case) only want's to bring him down. And (in the worst case) take revenge himself. It is only after Danzous death (remember that Sasuke at this point feels like his live is worthless) That Naruto makes clear to Sasuke how his intentions never changed. Sasuke want's to believe in Narutos words. But how could someone love him? And how can he feel that wish? Did he learn nothing? But Sasukes sees no way out. He probably thought the leaf chased after him ever since he left. That they want to kill him and Kakashi is lying. And now that he knows the truth about Itachi (and of course he believes it. To not believe it is to face the fact that HE killed his own brother for literaly nothing - which is to mutch to shoulder for most adults, let alone a teenager) it gives him something to live for. The war against the people he blames for everything. Who (as he believes) want to kill him anyway. And let's not forget: Even with Sasuke helping to end the war and defeat Kaguya, the decision about Sasukes fate afterwards came out very close.
Why did you make me cry like that? When Senya started playing and you were explaining this so perfectly I couldn’t hold my tears back..thank you for this amazing analysis
this was such a good video, every naruto fan should watch this, it makes me like sasuke a lot more. like alot. this video does a better, clearer way of explaining sasuke than what I thought. so good.
Absolutely beautiful video. Breakdowns of my old favourite series always gives me such bittersweet nostalgia. Analysing and furthering understanding of old favourite characters is always a sort of endearing.
Nice indepth video. It goes really well within how Sasuke changes across the stories in contrast to other antiheroes and eventually goes back to a more caring side.
The implicit details of Naruto is why I like it even though it gets so much disrespect. Assuming Sasuke is an edgelord in the original show (while its and easy conclusion to come to) is wrong. Due to the fact that Sasuke fully activated his sharingan through his fight with Naruto shows that it hurt to push Naruto away. Also the internal struggle of Sasuke if paid attention to justifies so many of his actions throughout the show and the best part is none of this is stated outright. The show starts and remains in the perspective of its namesake (for the most part) which means that details about other characters are left out so one can live vicariously through Naruto.
Honestly Sasuke and Obito are some of the best written characters and most complex in the show, yet they get so much hate because people don't understand their characters. If people took five minutes to focus at the subtitles they would understand the true motivations behind these characters. They are the most complex characters in the show fr
@4um4rs And the fact that they like Pain, Itachi and Madara when they've done horrible things as well, but call Sasuke an emo or Obito a simp. Llike Nagato and Konan went into despair after losing Yahiko but you don't see anyone calling Nagato/Konan simps just because Yahiko is a dude. (ik he isn't the motivation behind their actions but still) Like Rin wasn't even the cause of the war and both Nagato and Obito went through similar crap yet you don't see people calling Nagato anything. Funny how they prefer the abusers over the victims
Ritzuh he was always in top four most popular character I always find it weird that on TH-cam Itachi seem like the king of popularity but in official polls he is less popular than Sasuke
people that don't watch naruto or pay enough attention. a lot of the smaller details and his dialogue prove that he's a pure kid up until the death of his **entire family** fucked him.
he did ruin my enjoyment of shippuden for sure....the show wasn't about Naruto and sasuke but it sure became about them real quick after their first real fight that ended part 1...its like the fans wrote the series for kishi ...he let idiot fans rewrite the messages of the story to fit the whole rivalry thing shonnen fans love about action shows especially between two friends ala goku and vegeta ..I had a bigger emotional connection to fucking garra and narutos battle than Naruto and sasukes first second 3rd or 4th fight honestly and I hate garra...but hes better written than sasuke is into this story about Naruto ..garra and Naruto are similar..narutos bond with sasuke is just dumb...never really explored past surface level jealousy and admiration...sasuke never treats him well..Naruto became way too attached to this ideal in shippuden..its kinda gay
no we just got bored because by the time they show his flashabacks we are at like 130 episodes into this backstory festival and they show it so much from different angles we resent him more than fell bad for him like its trying us to feel...
I agree. He's the most human character in the show, he represents all of us. Trying to cast away his emotions and act without them even though that's the sole thing that's driving him to his actions. I agree with his ideology as well. The one about using himself as a martyr for peace. Making everyone else hate him giving them a mutual enemy so that they can band together and create peace
Thank you Sasuke is a much deeper/complex character then everybody thinks He isnt just some emo with anger issues, that's a lazy character analysis Saying he is a kurapika clone is also lazy, Both characters are great in their own right
Nice and Thank You, I really wanted to watch such a good representation of Sasuke like this instead of telling he is emo, edgy and no sense. That´s just what I though, maybe even more than I thought
Removing the shit filler and cutting down the Ninja War arc considerably, Naruto is actually a pretty good manga. Not the best but far, far from the worst.
His clan was slaughtered when he was only 6 and learned that his own village leaders ordered his own brother to do it, yet people still can't understand why he became a confused mess V_V
Child Of God It also doesn't help that Naruto pretty mich forced Sasuje to come back yo Konoha against his will and Naruto agreed to keep the genocide secret at edo Itachi's request
th-cam.com/video/VvINs7iXeWM/w-d-xo.html Sasuke is not unique, he is driven by emotion to the point of wanting to kill an entire village because he thought he was special.
@@grimaldus1523 Maybe if Konoha's so called peace wasn't build on the mounds of an entire dead clan and if the konoha elders didn't order ltachi to kill the Uchiha, Sasuke wouldn't want to destroy that trash of a place. Besides justice must be served.
Maybe if an entire clan did not try revolt and prove the fucking point of the Second hokage. Oh yeah, kill an entire fucking village because of the Uchiha massacre despite the fact that most of them did not even know the government did the massacre, real fucking nice, what kind of sociopath do you have to be to come to that revelation? That is called Guilt by association, but that doesn't apply here since they never knew how fucked up the government was. The Uchiha are a huge overemotional clan who are much more of a burden to the village than a help. Tobirama senju hates the Uchiha and think's they are evil, to prove his point Madara leaves the village and comes back to destroy it, later Sasuke tries to destroy it along with Madara, but before then the Uchiha tried to revolt against a village instead of negotiate.
@@grimaldus1523 Tobirama hated the Uchiha clan and gave them a prison as a home. He even made sure that the Uchiha were all put in one place and couldn't become anything more than policemen so as to increase the tension between the village and the Uchiha. Not to mention Tobi blamed all the Uchiha just because of the actions of a few and went so far to create some "curse of hatred" bull to villify the Uchiha even more. How would you feel if you were told that your family/genes is cursed and have a predisposition to always do negative things? And If someone killed your family l highly doubt you would be all happy and buddy buddy. Besides why are you using guilt by association for all the Uchiha just because of Madara? Not all Uchiha have the sharingan and not all Uchiha are ninja yet ltachi and Danzo had no problem killing them all in their sleep including kids and the elderly. Also, Shisui tried to brainwash all the Uchiha into accepting konoha's will with his genjutsu but Danzo removed his eye. Heck when Madara rebelled, all of the Uchiha stayed loyal to konaha and no one supported Madara in the least. And the Uchiha helped create konoha but they were treated like second class citizens and so far only a Senju/Uzumaki or someone related to a Senju/Uzumaki has always been the Hokage. Plus, Danzo diliberatley kept the Uchiha from helping out in the Nine tails attack which led to the Uchiha receiving the blame for that attack and being pushed to the outskirts of the village. So why wouldn't they try to change things when they were clearly being treated unfairly? Maybe Sasuke came to the conclusion of destroying all of konoha because of Itachi's mindrape of seeing his entire clan get killed for hours on end and living alone for who knows how long after the death of his entire alone and not receiving therapy or any form of help to recover from trauma in the slighest. Konoha's inhabitants may not know about the corruption of their government but they clearly have no problem obeying said governments orders to allow for the training of 8 year olds into becoming full fledged assasins and turn a blind eye to those same kids murdering each other in the chuunin exams, or for children to be taken from their homes and have giant demons put inside them (Kushina and Naruto) then treat those same kids like trash for reasons beyond their control, allowing for the undertaking of assasination missions for money or the use of child labour and other shady stuff but as long as things are done "for the sake of the village" no matter how immoral then its somehow all right.

I blame hiruzen, kakashi, and the rest of the citizens Hiruzen: did nothing to prevent the coupe de tate allowing danzo to intervene and make a terrible desicion of assigning itachi to carry out the assassination plan. All he said on the issue was that the uchihas are and I quote "brothers in arms, let's make a compromise so we can reason with them". But never actually did nothing so badically he was all talk and no bite. Neither did he try and give sasuke any help, he literally let sasuke continue to live in his house after the massacre Kakashi: failed in his little "let's talk" scene. He of all people should understand revenge all too well and also taught him chidori when it was clear as day what hed do with it and also knew of his intentions when he was asking him about the team members hopes and dreams way back in the 3rd or 4th episode of the show Citizens: now this is a collective between them kakashi and hiruzen. They made it seem like sasuke was in the wrong as if he was the bad guy for wanting revenge even tho in my opinion its completely justified, especially with how it looked to me as a viewer. But at the same time never offered him any help after the massacre they just kinda expected him to just somehow forget the fact that his whole clan was killed by his brother and pretty much frolic through the flowers. And whenever the villagers talked about him they just simply praised him for his skills as an uchiha, disregarding the real emotional trauma and mental issues he had deakt with alone. Now obviously the villagers didn't know the truth about the massacre but simply watching a kid carry around that much baggage is wild
every time someone says they hate sasuke and that he didn't deserve to be saved i just think to myself wow, how did you manage to watch 700+ episodes of this show and still miss the entire point. the complexity of his character, the anger he feels, the values he holds, and the way those things change as time progresses, more information is released, and he matures is so REAL
I agree
Sasuke is the one character who makes me cry the most, just by being Sasuke. He is so complex and knows so much pain, and I feel genuinely sorry for everything that ever happened to him.
The vile things that happened to this kid was really something else. Had to remind myself Naruto was a Shounen and not a Seinen (would've been even worse I bet since the manga did not tone things down). Always thought Sasuke was a Seinen character stuck in a Shounen world.
@Pyro Sasuke is a Seinen protagonist trapped in a Shōnen world.
Same. And somehow every single time I watch a video discussing Sasuke or think about his suffering it makes me cry. More than any fictitious character.

"Sasuke is a victim of the times we live in." - Hatake Kakashi
"Sasuke lost everything overnight and was left all alone for the sake of peace in Konoha." - Uchiha Madara
RokuNami4ever (Sora Lockhart) Agreed!

@@muhammadzeagham4092 true
A well written character doesn't actually mean you have to like him. In the same way, an unlikable character doesn't mean he is a bad character.
Preach
to each their own, because we all have different understanding of things, but to me, what you said sounds very wrong and simplistic.

If Sasuke were a real person at this day and age, he'd do a school shooting TBH

Something as simple as :
"You're not strong enough to beat Itachi, even I was not, but remember, I wasn't strong enough to free myself from zabuza's water prison, but you and naruto helped me do it, you weren't strong enough to defeat haku, but by teaming up with naruto you managed to prevail.
Find allies, people who understand you and care for you, grow alongside them, protect them, and let them protect you, and when the day comes, if you still care about vengeance, they will help you bring him to justice together.
Your brother is a monster, and monsters aren't matched or looked up to, they are hunted"
Could've made a difference
So on and so forth
But sadly only the retarded blonde brat with whiskers had the maturity to understand that sometimes, talking to someone can go a long way
Every time I see Sasuke smile when he says that he lost makes me think about how deep down inside, he needed this defeat.
Thanks. Until now, I didn't understand why he was happy to have lost.
amazing thought!! I totally agree.
this is so true, its as if he had always felt that what he was doing was not right, but noone could really materialize why since he did have some heavy food for thought about the world, at least until Naruto confronted him

Bro u spit so much fax holy shit
Go off
I can justify what itachi did by saying he was trying to uphold shisui will by trying to protect the village and UPHOLD THE UCHIHA name.
One note: Sasuke didn’t ignore Naruto because he intended to kill him to awaken the Mangekyou. However he could not bring himself to do it at the end.
i didn't know that, yikes
yep thats true, thats where he started saying that he didnt want to follow Itachis exact path and that he would find another way to get power
No he was definitely capable. He might've done it too. But he knows that's what Itachi would've wanted, so he strayed from that path.
He didn't kill Naruto not because he cared, rather he didn't want to take Itachi's advice to get power ( getting MS by killing your bestfriend)
Indeed
Agreed
I agree with all of this 💯👍🏾
I would actually love to watch that show
I think Madara is also like that.
Sasuke’s the only reason I kept watching Naruto. His story and character was compelling and dynamic
Naruto would have been better show if it was called sasuke
When i started watching Naruto as early teen i hated sasuke because i like most other saw themselves in naruto a under dog but as i grew up I realised how much dept and complexity he has as a character where naruto was boring asf and naruto sasuke dynamic got completely ruined due to reincarnation retcon also kishimoto completely ruined naruto ‘s character sasuke has better peaks and character arc than naruto

He wasn't impossible to root for, for me.
Poor girl.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Betrayal
The saddest part about that is Karin also had a horrible past. She was mistreated and molested. She even saw her mother being killed, she is always alone and had no where else to go. They can understand each other just like how naruto and sasuke connected. Sasuke saved her life that is why she fell in love with him. Sasuke is like her only light.
I think you werent told everything, sasuke told her not to move so he wouldnt hit vital points, plus karin knew sasuke wasnt himself
I’m a big Sasuke fanboy but ngl I hated him for that move.
@Star Killer just because she is annoying doesn't mean she deserves to be killed and betrayed
Never thought sasuke was a badly written character since I actually took the TIME to watch naruto from ep 1 to the end of shippuden and TRY to understand his perspective and way of thinking. But people wanna write him off as bad cause they don't like watching fillers and only pay attention to the action :/
Simply "Great". Sasuke has been the most relatable character in naruto to me at least and the best of the cast.

You pretty much said what i was thinking.
@Satya Hira oh ok bruh happen sometimes
@Satya Hira kid you’re correcting grammar mistakes lmao dont talk
How DARE you make a compelling argument for Naruto's Talk no Jutsu being a reasonable character development to mature him enough to be ready and able to accept Sasuke back. Now I have to cry more than I already freaking have over these two.

The best and most beautiful video about Sasuke. This is a yearly rewatch for me since it came out
Karin's flashback of Sasuke is one of the saddest moments in the series.
This!
What an excellent video. I’ve always liked Sasuke, but never been able to put it into words like you have. Great stuff 👍
Papa Aeon facts
Fax no cap
Well said
Well said, I dont understand how people hate on Sasuke and still be able to say "I'd die for my mother"...Sasuke is a literal example of throwing your life away because you love your family

When Sasuke said he lost, he meant the argument, btw a lot of people seems to misunderstand that...
As the story developes and Sasuke keeps falling darker and darker, so diminishes the support from the village, first the Elders, then his friends, and finally even team 7 gives up, all except Naruto who despite the whole world telling him forget Sasuke, not only insiste that there is no doubt he will turn Sasuke back, he's also able to inspire Hope on others.
i love sasuke soo muchh

I would have actually read a story from Sasuke's POV if that could be possible, your retelling has a very engaging plot. Alas that's not happening :(

This Is Awesome. Such A Deep Dissection Of Sauske I Love It.
The fact that the dynamic relationship between Sasuke and Naruto actually has so much meaning behind it makes it even more disappointing to me that they are just reincarnations of Indra and Ashura

WELL DONE!!! Very well done. I regret that I have but only one like to give.
Mmmmm, this hit deep. Very well done.
Ahhh, i was waiting for this video...
grats on 10k!!
(let's see if i'm convinced XD)
EDIT: Great video, really great, i definitely see your side better now, although my position on Sasuke hasn't changed :)
Nux Taku I love your channel.

Zz-M'dank Scoperz how is he a moron for having an opinion
King Jay You can be a moron with an opinion. Ex. Women shouldn’t vote, it’s an opinion but it’s retarded.
But in becoming Orochimarus apprentice he could do three Things:
Keep an eye on that guy.
I like sasuke’s character more than kurapika
But people think otherwise
This looked great on my subscription feed
this was such a good video, every naruto fan should watch this, it makes me like sasuke a lot more. like alot. this video does a better, clearer way of explaining sasuke than what I thought. so good.
Sasuke rigged the game so damn hard that him losing leads to his good ending.
Sasuke has much better character development than Naruto.
Naruto wasn’t supposed to develop that much. He’s just supposed to be the kid that never gives up or goes back on his word- which he doesn’t. Perfect

@Itachi Is superior to you Yeah, right. Justlook at Kakuzu and Hidan, and you still bulieve Naruto is worse?
@Spare Slipstreamz They were Major Villains for an arc. They are Akatsuki Memebers. If we don't count them, then Orochimatu is the only real villain.
Damn what a great analysis this is top tier hidden gem levels of excellence thank you sir
Absolutely beautiful video. Breakdowns of my old favourite series always gives me such bittersweet nostalgia. Analysing and furthering understanding of old favourite characters is always a sort of endearing.
Nice indepth video. It goes really well within how Sasuke changes across the stories in contrast to other antiheroes and eventually goes back to a more caring side.
this is so good 😭
The implicit details of Naruto is why I like it even though it gets so much disrespect.
What a great view on sakuke thanks for the insight.
still think killing him off makes more sense ..neji should live..tsuande raikage tschukage mei should all die maybe garra too
Honestly Sasuke and Obito are some of the best written characters and most complex in the show, yet they get so much hate because people don't understand their characters.
Funny how they prefer the abusers over the victims
a seinen protagonist trapped in a shonen world
Finally someone gets it
Great job
Who tf misunderstood Sasuke? He was the best part of Naruto
Ritzuh he was always in top four most popular character I always find it weird that on TH-cam Itachi seem like the king of popularity but in official polls he is less popular than Sasuke
people that don't watch naruto or pay enough attention. a lot of the smaller details and his dialogue prove that he's a pure kid up until the death of his **entire family** fucked him.
itachi has been dead for like a decade so that makes sense and he wasn't around much like sasuke was...
he did ruin my enjoyment of shippuden for sure....the show wasn't about Naruto and sasuke but it sure became about them real quick after their first real fight that ended part 1...its like the fans wrote the series for kishi ...he let idiot fans rewrite the messages of the story to fit the whole rivalry thing shonnen fans love about action shows especially between two friends ala goku and vegeta ..I had a bigger emotional connection to fucking garra and narutos battle than Naruto and sasukes first second 3rd or 4th fight honestly and I hate garra...but hes better written than sasuke is into this story about Naruto ..garra and Naruto are similar..narutos bond with sasuke is just dumb...never really explored past surface level jealousy and admiration...sasuke never treats him well..Naruto became way too attached to this ideal in shippuden..its kinda gay
no we just got bored because by the time they show his flashabacks we are at like 130 episodes into this backstory festival and they show it so much from different angles we resent him more than fell bad for him like its trying us to feel...
19:29 damn that hits hard
this video finally relieved my soul.
Thank you
Sasuke is a much deeper/complex character then everybody thinks
He isnt just some emo with anger issues, that's a lazy character analysis
Saying he is a kurapika clone is also lazy, Both characters are great in their own right
hunterxhunter.fandom.com/wiki/Kurapika
Nice and Thank You, I really wanted to watch such a good representation of Sasuke like this instead of telling he is emo, edgy and no sense.
That´s just what I though, maybe even more than I thought
That Edo Itachi & Sasuke scene makes me cry everytime
Stop making me think Naruto might be decent
EDIT: Naruto good can confirm
WatTheWut but it is if you take out fillers
WatTheWut I guess the stuff in the video is there, but it's not particularly well-executed.
The only part that's bad is really the Great Ninja War arc.
(The problem is that that's about a quarter of the series).
Naruto unravelled as soon as land of waves ended I stick by this. Its like half the plots missing
Removing the shit filler and cutting down the Ninja War arc considerably, Naruto is actually a pretty good manga. Not the best but far, far from the worst.
damn this video really brings up the real focus of the plot of naruto
My man this was beautiful. My perception of sasuke has definitely changed thanks to this video.

Sasuke is not unique, he is driven by emotion to the point of wanting to kill an entire village because he thought he was special.
This is truly one of the great video essays on the complex contradictions of Sasuke.
Wow guys it’s almost like no one took a closer look at sasuke character to actually see if he was bad or not, opting out to just hate him because a a few big anime brains didn’t like him
The people who didnt like him clearly weren't that smart. They think big words will get their point across and clearly they have succeeded with it but they are now also missing the bigger picture.

19:30 I'm glad someone talked about this A-O scene its powerful
Excellent video. And excellent understanding of his character.
I blame hiruzen, kakashi, and the rest of the citizens
Hiruzen: did nothing to prevent the coupe de tate allowing danzo to intervene and make a terrible desicion of assigning itachi to carry out the assassination plan. All he said on the issue was that the uchihas are and I quote "brothers in arms, let's make a compromise so we can reason with them". But never actually did nothing so badically he was all talk and no bite. Neither did he try and give sasuke any help, he literally let sasuke continue to live in his house after the massacre
Kakashi: failed in his little "let's talk" scene. He of all people should understand revenge all too well and also taught him chidori when it was clear as day what hed do with it and also knew of his intentions when he was asking him about the team members hopes and dreams way back in the 3rd or 4th episode of the show
Citizens: now this is a collective between them kakashi and hiruzen.
