    Don't sell yourself short, you're way cooler than those guys, you've given honest opinions on gear and have talked me out of many marketing gimmicks and have steered me towards reliable gear.
    Those other guys you name drop cannot find a way to make a profitable channel without pushing marketing narratives, and while you sometimes have to he careful with your words, you deliver the kind of honesty a consumer needs to navigate a market filled with paid sponsorships. Thanks for all you do

    In 1982, I bought (and still own) an original Dean Cadillac. It was badass then, and is badass now. All of the sustain of a Les Paul, with about 1/3 less weight.

      I have never played a Cadillac. I have played lots of Dean guitars and own a few. I just find it strange that these guitars have great QC, speced pretty high and the prices are really low compared to some others I would say at least 200 less sometimes almost four and they come with hard cases most of them. I hope Dean guitars are around for a while I really like them. Don't know why everybody talks shit about them?

    Modifying your cheap guitars is just a fun way to express yourself. You can make it completely unique. Plus, if you get a good low end guitar and put everything you want in it, it'll cost the same or less than a more expensive guitar with no mods, and you might want to swap out parts on that anyways. One of my cheap guitars is so good that it spoiled expensive guitars for me. It was setup professionally, so it feels amazing to play and feels as good or better than any other guitar I've played. If you like it and it plays well, do what you want with it, make it your own, and save some money. I also refinished it myself without a clear coat so the paint is gonna age terribly, which could be cool or very bad depending on how the paint chooses to react. But it's been a couple years and the paint is still as it was back then.

      Perfectly put 👌
      Last year I bought an old Washburn strat diet cheap, 40.$ to be precise, from a kid that bought it and just parked it under his bed. That thing feels, sounds and plays unbelievably good. Invested on a set of locking keys, roller string trees, a titanium nut and a Dimarzio virtual vintage blues in the bridge. I have two way more expensive guitars that are really, really good instruments and they've been collecting dust for months. I never thought it would be possible but there you go 🙄

    Excellent tube amp for home/practice: Monoprice Stage Right 15w 1x12. Once channel but very rich sound with a dual EL84 and triple 12AX7 tube design, 3 band EQ and reverb. A switch takes it down to < 2w and gets a rich, inspiring tone at bedroom volumes. The 15 watts is loud enough for a band practice. Use the volume pot on your guitar to go from a whisper to a scream. Currently $260 US. Very well-made and solidly built, and it sounds great with single coils and humbuckers. You could buy three of these for the price of a Blues Junior.

    VICTORY motorcycles was SHELVED because the parent company Polaris wound up also owning INDIAN motorcycles. They shelved Victory motorcycles so that they wouldn't be competing against themselves. Indian Motorcycles was the legacy brand with a long history so they went with that instead of favoring the relatively brand new brand (Victory).

    Boss sued behringer for their pedals being too close and they settled out of court. Don’t know which pedals exactly or what element (sound, look, etc) but the behringer pedals I have sound excellent and the the behringer synth does too, and in TH-cam comparisons sound like the originals. And I’ve never had any problem with them breaking - plastic is pretty strong actually 👍

      As a bedroom guitarist I can spend £25 on the behringer or £200 on the CE2

    • @DrKevGuitar
      @DrKevGuitar ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was about the "trade dress", i.e. the look was too close to the Boss pedals. They adjusted it and all was good. The circuits in guitar pedals can not be protected e.g. no copyright, patent etc (theoretically they can but in practice it's very tough). Electrons don't care what the box looks like, the same circuit will sound the same whether it's Boss or Behringer (noise performance or durability aside). I like Josh Scott's take when asked about Amazon pedals: cheap pedals bring people into the market. People who buy cheaper pedals now get an affordable introduction to what is possible and will in time move on to higher priced pedals. Everybody wins.

    • @Bagledog5000
      @Bagledog5000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only real difference I’ve found is extraneous noise tends to be higher with Behring ear stuff, but it’s been a while since I us3c there stuff so it may be better now.

    • @DrKevGuitar
      @DrKevGuitar ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Bagledog5000 And with modern technology and circuit board design the Behringer gear could be less noisy than vintage Boss gear.

    31:28 I think the Internet search is just a small bonus in the decision. Car makers have resurrected old model names for a long time: the main reason is the easy boost in interest, excitement, and media coverage because of the heritage of the model name and the nostalgia factor. Also the built-in narrative: when Dodge brought back the Challenger, you immediately have an idea of the market segment they are going for; there is less need for explaining the product.

      Ford ranger is a perfect example. The only problem is the old Ford ranger was super reliable and was the number one selling vehicle in America for 18 years. Ford took it away in 2012 but yet it was sold in every other part of the world except USA. Well they brought it back but all it is is a smaller version of the F-150. Why do we always get screwed in America like we have a lot of money?😢

    A thing about Behringer not mentioned. They don't have buffers,like Boss, (they're not even true by-pass, I think) which means if you have cabels longer than 12 feet you may notice a drop in signal clarity. I noticed.

What if I get a straight-straight, or another brand of chord? I’ve got a Epiphone 1960’s Les Paul Standard. Is “hissing”, a problem with those models? is it in my pick-ups? Just got a Tokai LP MIJ , the entry level model, and damn still find it hard how good it is. The QC is outstanding, and this guitar in feel and neck feels more similar to the R8 I had than the 2 Gibson LP Traditional I had. Similar because is a closer neck profile and overall details than the trads.
    Can just imagine how good then the higher tier Tokai must be.
    So if I were going to japan, would try many different MIJ guitars from different brands and get my favorite. Getting to try them damn, that would be awesome.

    Mooer is almost as cheap as behringer, and they sound a lot better. It's weird that something only five to ten dollars more than the behringer model when they aren't the same price would be so much better. On the other hand though, outside of highly sought after things like Space Echo or the Waza craft versions, I can almost awlays find a great deal on a Boss pedal.

      As far as components, the cheap vs expensive-> probably the only a difference of $2 in resistors. The price is just what they can charge for the name reputation, and of course sound options/quality.

    The last SUNN amp I bought back in the 80s new was their Colleseum bass amp and matching cab. What a piece of garbage. First the 18" woofer (10/18 cab) Blew at moderate volume on stage and the repair shipping was at my expense both ways. It cost nearly what a new speaker cost. I decided to sell it on trade for a GK. Well the store I sold it to was a SUNN dealer and ended up lending it to an act who was plating at the "Boittom Line" a well known club in NYC. The amp blew up in a spectacular fashon in the middlke of a song resulting in an on stage fire. I guess that amp had bad mojo and I was lucky to wish it into the corn field when I did. With all of the EQ on that amp it never sounded quite right. The GK was by far a better amp, until it was stolen that is. The perils of living in NYC...

    Behringher pedals usually sound ok to good, but the controls are weak, and they don’t like being stepped on, which isn’t good for something that’s designed to be stepped on.
    Great tools for beginners, but don’t expect to gig with them unless it’s an always on pedal. Hard to beat $15 to $20 used

My impression was tat Fender just wanted the brand, try chewing it out and making a couple of expensive models. Didn’t know what to do with and just let it die. Mission Sunn is hella expensive… the sixty watt heads, very basic and I’m sure they sound great… $3700.

    I give a thumbs up to anything that I liked even a little.
    Why?
    Because...why the hell not? It costs me nothing, and it gives encouragement to another human being.
    I would add:
    please give a thumbs up to people who post videos on Ultimate Guitar.
    There are a lot of little kids just learning guitar, who post videos there.
    You see a video of a ten-year-old in Thailand playing and singing a Paul Simon song. He has three likes. THREE...
    Why would you NOT give this kid a thumbs up???
    (I mean, REGARDLESS of how good or bad his singing or playing is, why would you not at least offer him some encouragement?)

    Actually near the end of the Guitar World story it mentions that Dean is going to court with the bank and they have their side of the story so the sale of the brand is not quite a done deal.

    I'm right there with you. I ordered my pink&green swirl Kiesel this morning too -- so new guitar day for me too. The quote was for 14-18 weeks, though Jeff mentioned something a little more in his live stream. Mine is very similar to yours, except mine is an A2 with a maple board. I have a swirl from the first run too.

    I traded up for years and then found the industry of guitars are not really that much better than the new cheaper guitars in many cases compared to ability. So I have been trading down. I am like a stock market.

Because it’s like you’re having the most fun and practically laughing through everything you say. So that uplift my day if I’m having a crappy day. So keep on keeping on man. You’re one of the better TH-camrs that I’ve ever listen to. You’re great and I appreciate you brother..

    Berhingers are great placeholders on a pedalboard. You can cover all tones/shapes you are looking for until you realize what you are really going for, replacing them with whatever upgrade helps you to get there.
    Shawna does have a point though. They are very (although not entirely) Boss-Centric, which is why they are great for starting out with. Over time though, a beginner will replace most, if not all of them with the real Boss or other equivalent clone-circuit. The plastic housing almost ensures this at some point

      Same, I still have their chorus and 808 on my board, I would love a ce2 but they're very expensive, all I use it for is keeping the ds2 under control

    Dean Guitars was founded by luthier Dean Zelinsky. The Z and V guitars are directly based on the Gibson Explorer and Flying V, except for the V headstock. The ML is a cross between the Z and the V. The Cadillac is a cross between a Les Paul and an Explorer. The original Dean's from the late 70s and early 80s are amazing guitars. I don't remember who bought out Dean in the 80s, I don't think it was Armadillo, but the quality of the guitars was nowhere near as good. It's similar to Jensen. I worked for Jensen from 1989 to 1995, when it was still an independent company. They were purchased by Recoton in 1995. The home and car audio became cheap, imported junk. A few years later, SICA Altoparlanti secured a licensing agreement to build all of the original guitar amp speaker designs.

      I have a Korean made (World Music Instruments, I think?) Dean bass that is about 5 years old now. It had an MSRP of $800, but I got it for $400 on clearance because they were retiring the model. Like a lot of Korean imports, it's actually really nice. I've owned a lot of basses including an American Fender P-bass and an MIJ Fender P-bass, PRS SE, Warwick and others, and I can say with some confidence this was a great deal for $400. If it was $800? Eh, no, I probably would go with something else with better resale value. But they've made some decent stuff in recent years, pretty much on par with the various other good Korean stuff.

    Depends whether you’re gigging or clumsy. Boss pedals are built to last, while Behringer are generic. Some are very good, but they’re built to a price. You can also spend a lot more on a bag of shite which are nothing special, but just generic products at boutique prices.
