The difference between SCH 40 and SCH 40S lies in their applications and standards. SCH 40 refers to "Standard Weight" pipe, which is commonly used for low-pressure applications such as water and gas supply. It is designed to handle less pressure compared to SCH 80 or SCH 160 pipes. SCH 40S, on the other hand, refers to "Standard" stainless steel pipe. The "S" stands for stainless steel, and it is used to denote the wall thickness and pressure rating of stainless steel pipes. In summary, SCH 40 is a standard weight pipe for general applications, while SCH 40S specifically refers to standard stainless steel pipes.
