- So many of you suggested I try these WYZE security cameras here at the cabin. So I finally did. I'll share some advice on install and let'd take a look at the WYZE camera versus the Reolinks I already have. Cheers!

I run Eufy cameras at our cabin in northern MN. The Eufy cameras run off provided rechargeable batteries. The camera's need to be recharged about every 9 months. I have one camera outside and the other 3 inside the cabin. The outside camera does not work when it is below 0 degrees F (-17C). The other cameras are inside the heated space and pointed out windows. These cameras work great. One camera is pointed at the main entrance door. I have a large round thermometer sitting on the sofa so I can see the inside cabin temperature. There is no monthly fee with the Eufy camera system. I may try one of these solar camera's to see how they work in the cold. Thanks for sharing.
My Eufy work well at home and cottage . Wyze were a disappointment and I got rid of them .
I had the wyze cameras and started out ok. Then they started charging pre month. Added charges for upgrades. I just gave up on them.
I started with much more expensive NEST IQ Outdoor cameras. 3x the cost of Reolink. One failed after 2 years. Video is much better but sometimes had connection issues. I added Reolink cams and been very happy with those. Video is good, very reliable. Going on 3rd year with Reolink.
Thanks for the video Gord , good coverage of your trying different security systems. Stay safe and keep up the fun up there. Fred.
It's refreshing in a DIY wireless security camera review for the reviewer to admit there's no comparable difference in this feature or that feature, or in the relative price. It makes me trust the review much more, particularly on a negative point that might come up later when that's important. One "review peeve" of mine are reviewers who feel like they have to check off a negative feature box and wind up bringing up some mundane point that's in fact not exclusive to the camera at all but to the technology itself or the price range.
Good review as always Gord. I love my cellular Reolinks. Haven't had a single issue in years. Cheers!
Thanks Gord! I think I’ll be investing in the ReoLinks! Cheers
GP, it's been awhile, just got this notification. Guess I'll be looking into the Reolynk. Thanks for your help. Times are a changin. World is crazy!
Cheers John!
Be well Sir GP !!! Cheers !!!
Cheers Dave!
I use Arlo security cameras that work off solar and not only WiFi but cell phone service also!
Thanks, Gord. I installed two Reolink solar-powered cameras in two different geographic locations after your earlier reviews and have been very pleased with them, summer and winter. At our cabin, with very poor wi-fi only available via old copper phone land lines, the gamechanger was installing Starlink. I plan to add more Reolink cameras elsewhere and take advantage of the 5 camera plan included in my subscription.
Pretty clear (pun intended) which is a better set up. Good and useful vid.
Great information. Good fair comparison. Great job on the video. Thank you 😊
Thanks for the work involved to do these informative videos.
Thanks for another excellent review! I can't tell you how many products I bought after seeing your review on them 🙂 My wife even insisted on the Goodnature rodent removal system after I showed her your video!
Thanks Gord. I bought a Reolink based on your earlier recommendation and it has worked great. I need another camera so am looking forward to your Wyze experience.
Thx for the review. I have a fairly isolated cottage on 26 acres north of Montreal. I also bought Reolink based in part on your positive review and it has been great. If ain’t broke, I won’t fix it. Otherwise, I face many of the same challenges as you do so I really appreciate your videos. Keep em coming!
Good work as usual! Many cottages are limited by their available internet speeds. The critical part for cloud connected camera's is the available upload speed. For DSL, when more than 1900 cable meters from the phone companies DSLAM, upload is a mere 920 kbps. This barely keeps up with one video upload stream. A Wyze camera will do a 12 second video snippet for any motion it detects... which will bring all other cottage activity to a crawl, even downloads, due to the delay in the ACK's going back up. To avoid costs of upgrading to Starlink, consider a more conventional wired camera system with Network Video Recorder (NVR). Basic systems are available from Costco, or Amazon. Then all recordings stay local, but you can still access remotely through apps and upload what you really need to see. Just an additional perspective.
Those are a few significant advantages for the reolink. Faster reaction, better picture and cheaper cloud subscription.
Thanks Gord, great job.
Good to know about Reolink/ Wyze
Whatever camera you get, always make sure it is RTSP or ONVIF compliant. This is what makes the camera work with great open source software such as iSpy. If not, you will be stuck with the not-so-fun android app from the manufacturer of the camera.
Good comparison video between Reolink & Wyze. I've tested these, too, and Reolink wins hands down. Glad you did the video; keep it up & the updates.
Good video comparison. Just keep in mind that that all the camera apps are also available for all Android phones and not just Iphones. Thank you for the good work
after seeing your video for relolink i purchased the reolink go pt ultra. we are in northern michigan and my pole barn is about a mile from our lake house.. so internet wifi was not easily available. camera performs very well with eiotclub simm card which always connects. i am amazed how well the solar panel charges the battery even with our cloudy weather we get this time of year.. a convenient camera to keep track of what's happening around exterior of barn.. cold weather has been no problem. although our last several weeks weather has been quite mild. we'll see how it does next winter when we get some well below zero temps.
I'm running 5 ReoLink cameras and run the Wyze smart plugs and LED light bulbs. I have some Wyze light bulbs in my detached garage I can turn on and off and also have my John Deere tractor coolant heater plugged into a Wyze smart plug that I can turn on before going out to the garage to start my tractor in the winter.
Another good review - it's like GP Marketplace with honest reviews, sold on Reolink but always looking for options, Cheers and have a great weekend.
I think I want to make my purchasing agent for anything I’m looking to buy, GP!
good video bud thanks for sharing take care
Good review, I have many questions but for now I will hold them to myself until we get more information.
Wonderful info thanks 👍
Thanks Gord, I just ordered a Reolink. All the best fellow Canuck.
Great review bud. Zero experience with either cameras on wifi but I do have a Vosker camera that runs only off cellular . Cheers
GP, I like my Reolink cameras. Cheers
Thanks for the great review…….
Wyze makes a good camera for the money for sure Gord. Unfortunately they also have changed to the subscription service like all others. For more money the Ring makes a better camera and picture with less false notifications. My two cents. Cheers, Mike.
ThanksGP
Great video as always Gord. I have 9 Reolink cameras around my house and they all have performed flawlessly. I had one fail out of the box and was quickly replaced by Reolink within a few days. You cant beat these cameras.
Hey Gord. I have a Reolink with a sim card. I find that it doesn't capture soon enough, or record long enough. I'd imagine the wifi version is more reliable. It has impressive video quality though. I'm pretty committed to the Ring system for the most part since we have strong wifi. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to your follow ups!
I run the same reo link cameras and I will agree. I’ve had mine for 3 winters also and are flawless. Thanks Gord!
Based on the comments I think Reolink should be paying you 😂
GP, always love your reviews, but not sure if you clarified the fact you do not need a cloud service from Wyze, I have several cameras for over 3 years that record to their SIM card that can keep data storage for playback at no cost. When the art is full, I records over the existing file. And when away, you can always check you phone to see existing coverage. I love them. I do plan to purchase the solar panel version in the near future. Thanks again Gordy.
Morning Bob! Yes, great point and an important one. Thanks for sharing it for everyone. Cheers!
Very informative video Gord, as always!! On your poor Wifi, have you tried Starlink, I made the switch a year ago and it's incredible. Worth a try! Cheers!
How's she goin'? When you have to leave your camp for extended periods it is vitally important to have security cameras. The better they are the better they will be. So far it looks like the Reolink are the winners. Take 'er easy!!
As someone who has gone away from the wyze to reolink funny enough I would highly suggest the reolink over the wyze. For monthly costs/features ratios the reolink is a clear winner (and that's not including wyze constant security intrusions against them either)
I really like my Wyze camera
I have 2 Simply Safe cameras, the night vision of those sucks
I also have 2 Wyze camera which have great night vision.
The Wyze cameras have been working great for 4 Minnesota winters with zero problems
Good info - thanks for sharing Larry!
Good morning Gord..
I have 7 Wyze cameras up and running.. Two are on a solar panels.
I just put up a new one that turns and will follow what ever it detects..
We have had them up for about 5 years.. I do pay for there plan and I think it is $119 a year for all the cameras.. I think can’t remember exactly but our stuff is saved for a month as well..
Any way we are pretty happy with how they work..
But as you pointed out the notification time is a little slower.. But it has never been a problem..
Yes I have another of brand camera that I started with it is a second or two faster but it is a turning camera and will follow what’s detected but something is wrong and you can only turn it one way now so that’s why I replaced it with the new Wyze cam..
I did relocate it and keep it in one direction… Oh well
It will be interesting to hear your thoughts and opinions..
Thanks for sharing your thoughts..
Cheers my friend
Good morning Gus! Thanks for the great info - helpful for everyone to read. I have one of those following cameras inside now. So funny - a fly or lady bug flies by it and it tries to follow it. Too funny. I guess I should reduce the sensitivity at some point. Have a great weekend and say hi to Sally!
Thanks for the video! How do you get your internet connection?
Hery Gord I just would like to see the company make the items in brown show you don't need to look at them stcking out like a sore thumb.
What your take on that.
LOL! I was going to mention that cause Carol is not happy about the white cord and panel or reolink camera sticking out but yes, I agree wholeheartedly.
Sounds like the test is over! 5x cheaper cloud storage and better resolution…….😊
LOL! Well, I have to be neutral. Just the facts...:)) Dragnet.
Hi, GP -- I hope you'll do a review of the tonneau on your pickup. Thanks!
Hey good day. Not sure I would do a video but this is the 3rd Tacoma that I have bought this hard Tri-fold cover on - it is the Toyota accessory you get from the Dealer. Hands down - BEST cover I have ever had on a pickup (which is why I keep getting it.) It is properly secured to the bed, each section is a locked, latched, section, easily disengaged with a handle, and comes off and on super easy. It has a "guide" piece bolted to the front of the bed that helps you to slide it back into place exactly, in place, unlike others where you have to struggle to find the exact resting position and find the latches to line up. It does not interfere with my Tie-downs along the side rails and it is hard enough that I can stand on it ( although I probably shouldn't LOL!). No nasty velcro adhesive but has rubber molding to help keep water out (very effective but I still get a little water in the bed after hard, or long rains). Hope that helps. Good luck and thanks for tuning in!
Thanks. I have a Ford F250, so your tonneau wouldn’t work for me. BTW, I’m busy trying to clear my driveway (about the length of yours) of 50” of heavy snow. It’s a struggle.
Very informative and well-done video. Does your Reolink connect to your computer as well as your smartphone?
It dies yes- I can access on my computer and see the live or recorded views. Much bigger than on my phone for sure. Cheers!
Thank you @GP Outdoors for showing those to different Manufacturers, I am trying to make up my mind as well, Have you ever looked at the eufy security Video Doorbell Dual Camera's as you can add many extra camera's ??? Thank you, Liked#39 N Subscribed
Morning! I have not tried the Eufy cameras yet but I have heard of them. Good luck with your decision - hope they work out great!
have you tried BLINK ?
What is the model number of the Reolink solar camera?
Have you tried vosker? I have one at my remote cabin, solar panel and NO WIFI, runs on cell signal
Reo link ! Not even close !! Just ordered !!!
What model of wyze cam did you install. Maybe I missed it
A Wyze Cam Pro.
Hi are you going to build a garage .
LOL! Morning John. No immediate plans at all - just bought something for the family so it will be a while yet. Can't wait though. Cheers!
In a busy city reolink poE rules.
Wyze has a great storage plan cheap cameras and sd card backup. The newest battery powered unit work great with cheap Amazon solar panels for 100% cable free install
Wyze are not worth getting. Crippled cameras (not rtsp or onvif) and you have to pay subscription fees for basics like AI. Tapo camera are awesome. All the features, twice the resolution and low price. I just pulled about 6 of my wyze and replaced with Tapo.
As per the guy in the video, the most important thing for him is the clouds response time lol. Not only is reolink and wyze a less secure option, but on top of that they don't even give you the option to secure your home by offering RTSP or ONVIF as you've mentioned. With a simple ESP32 and a cheap laptop I can take down any wyze cam in seconds rendering them useless. This guy needs to be educated on what's really important and the fact that corporate greed and the mentality that they own you and the product you purchased while not keeping your best interest in mind.
That's what's most important? You sure? Not being forced to use a cloud services or trusting these companies with your privacy? What's most important to you can be bypassed with a $4 ESP32 and a cheap laptop and flood deAuth with a few other easy commands that will drop that cameras wifi quicker than you can say "why is my cabin empty and who took a dump in the foyer"? Thanks to corporate greed, these cams are less secure than ever.
