I'm of Irish descent, my husband is Hispanic and his family is from Chihuahua two generations ago. We call our daughter a "leprecana". Our wedding 33 years ago was a blast: mariachis and a bagpiper, tequila and Irish whisky, Guinness and Harp, Corona and DOS Equiis. Two massive families, 7 priests on the altar, and a three day long party. We got everyone back together again for our 30th anniversary and there were even more babies and toddlers and rugrats, and it was another heck of a party. Our families really like each other and totally get each other. Fluent in sarcasm, snappy with the comebacks, and emotional when they drink. Lol ☘️☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇲🇽🏴🇵🇹 Update to our family story. Our gorgeous, brilliant Leprecana just got herself engaged to a very handsome, very intelligent young man of half Portuguese, half Scottish descent. Like God shook the box and went just one country over to make a partner. His family is not quite as big, but after she graduates from medical school next December, there’s going to be another massive wedding. She’s the last of the grandchildren since I’m the youngest of the 11 kids, and she’s everyone’s favorite, so we’ve already started planning. Cheers, everyone, Salut and Sláinte!!!
during the Mexican-American war, many Irish fighting for the U.S. switched sides. United States discriminated against the Catholics, Mexico wanted an officially Catholic country.
Then the jewish socialist took power with el PRI during the 20-30 and went after Catholics/Christians, Irish, hermana/dutch, french, chinese/japanese settlers from the raíl roadd. Pushing for pogroms. And later would commit genocide. Massacres everywhere. In the "Guerra's Christeras". Finance by Jewish bankers and families. With the support of USA admin of the time. And crown in UK. And they did it as well years prior con los Hacendados. In order to repoces and take land from people. So I laugh at the irony when they say "never again". As they commit massacres. While playing the part of the victim. They did it in Mexico and throughout Latin America. They did it in Russia and Ukraine. Before and during the great Wars and wanted to do it un Europe. But somehow find a way to insert themselves in other peoples suffering. All those forgotten souls because they have great PR, gaslight and have there *scolors and professor re-write the history. They will like to say that they were persecuted. Mean while they would becomes heads of state, become judges and government positions bases on who you know and what your are. One of the reasons they are so pissed of right now in México b/c some of those positions will be voted in now. (Mind you with new morena juus admin that got installed I dought anything will change. They are pushing the same rethoric. Selling the country to foreign entities and talking about NO PRIVATE land ownership. And reposses people wealth. Yeah ok. I know what that rethoric causes.) Anytime someone has the balls to call them out for it. They try and remove there whole line from existance. And play the victim. Edit: large portion of my father's side died martors during that time. Yes we had an Hacienda. Yes we own large portions of land. But never own no slaves. The people were treated right. And because the family participated in having a "underground railroad", in the sense and hiding people from the church or protecting villages. Many where tortured, made to March with there plants of there feet sliced of for miles before they where raped, shot, hanged, ripped appart, etc. Many atrocious things done. To them b/c of there fate. They escaped religious persecution in Europe back in the 1600, same as 1700-1800. In Germany and France. And would settle in Mexico. Only to deal with the same ilk. That does the same thing every where every 100 years. Anytime it back fires on them. They are ready to play th e part of the victim. I say NO ONE FORGET WHO BACKED IT. AND WHO PUSHED FOR IT. Socialist Juus and South Mexican lazy useful idiots. Gentiles as they'd like to call them.
As a Mexican, I feel guilty every time someone mentions the Mexican-American war and the Irish role in it. I don’t think we’ve done enough to acknowledge what the Irish did for us. The whole country needs to be aware about it and proper homages to Ireland need to be presented. If I were a mayor I would certainly promote it.
@@wetzinalvarado6930they already do celebrate it in commemoration of the San Patricos Brigade I believe. Saint Patrick’s Day parades are common in major Mexican cities although it is more a somber memorial than a drinking party like it is in Ireland and other countries like the US.
Tbh as someone from an Irish background it already seems like a lot of Mexicans do have a tremendous appreciation for Ireland and our shared history but yes more should be done on a state level to improve and formalise the great relationship between the Mexican and Irish people 🇲🇽🇮🇪

Mi hermano. (as an irishman) - When I was young my father would tan well at work and my sisters would comment on it. He told us it was because we had that spanish-Irish blood and I never knew what he meant till I got much older.
The connection actually goes deeper , during the ethnic cleansing by Britain and the potato famine, native Americans tribes heard of the suffering and sent money for food, even though they had just suffered the trail of tears .the Irish never forgot this debt and helped the native people during covid.

You know the Spanish are Anglo’s via the Visigoths right? There’s also Celts who settled in northwest Spain. We’re all mutts still fighting for what we “think” we are.
@mdc3148 maybe they have some other admixtures. But the Spanish Armada/Black Irish theory has been proven wrong by countless anthropologist and genetic scientists. As a Mexican American, I approve this guy. A lot of my best friends in the Marine Corps were Irish Americans and Philipino Americans. We have so much in common, and man, we loved to get drunk together.
David just mentioned the Irish connection to Mexico. However, there are other historical examples of Irish and Irish descendants impact Latin American history. Ambrose O'Higgins, the impoverished Irish nobleman who decided to serve the Spanish crown and became the Viceroy for Spain in Peru. His son Bernardo O'Higgins fought in the wars for independence from Spain and is considered the liberator of Chile. William Brown, the Irish sailor, is now considered the Argentine Navy's father.
I’m mostly Irish with a lot of Mexican. I used to think it was a bit odd until I learned the history but at the same time it made a lot of sense. This is kind of the reason I exist and it’s strange to think about

@@Duquedecastro It's not from one place it is just that in Ireland, Scotland and Wales there is the highest amount, then places like the Netherlands, Norway etc. Spain has red hair but at a much lower percentage. You can even get some people from India with red hair but of course highly unusual. There was a newspaper article about an Indian girl with natural red hair. The fact that it was news shows how unusual it is there. It's a recessive trait and can pop up anywhere. In some populations it would definitely not be an asset because inheriting red hair also increases inability to tan so a skin cancer risk.
@@Duquedecastro My comment was to point out that is where the redhaired thing comes from as being Celtic when it isn't really a pan-Celtic thing. The Irish and Scots are sometimes stereotypically portrayed as redheaded. People associate being Celtic with Irish and Scots. My comment was pointing out it isn't a pan-Celtic thing to be redheaded. My other comment is to say you can't associate having red hair with any particular population. It is just more common in some populations more than others. It's like how some people associate having blond hair with Viking ancestry. Silly really.

There is a monument dedicated to them in the Plaza San Jacinto, in the San Angel neighborhood of Mexico City, where a plaque commemorating the San Patricio Battalion was placed. This plaque lists the names of 71 members of the battalion, 48 of whom were Irish and 13 German.

Let's get some Guinness together
youre not one of us
I'm of Irish descent, my husband is Hispanic and his family is from Chihuahua two generations ago.
Lol
☘️☘️☘️☘️🇮🇪🇲🇽🏴🇵🇹 Update to our family story.
That’s great ❤
LOVE IT ❤🎉
Wish I was there! 😂❤❤❤❤
Damn! That’s actually a pretty cool story! Congrats!
If your husband's ancestry is in Chihuahua he's Mexican, not Hispanic!
during the Mexican-American war, many Irish fighting for the U.S. switched sides. United States discriminated against the Catholics, Mexico wanted an officially Catholic country.
True! Los Patricios!
And praise God they got it!
Only 300 marines defective the US
Really? I did not know that!!
Yeah ok. I know what that rethoric causes.)
Anytime someone has the balls to call them out for it.

I’m mostly Irish with a lot of Mexican. I used to think it was a bit odd until I learned the history but at the same time it made a lot of sense. This is kind of the reason I exist and it’s strange to think about
Esteemed and Revered Mr. Nihill, GRMMA for keeping your informed, intellectual and hilarious senses about yourself! You have the Gift, both genetic and nurtured!
Hearing Ireland history and facts in your work is heartwarming and evokes deep pride!
Once again, GRMMA!!!
P.S. Anacleto Pizarro below hijacked this thread apparently for perpetrating a scheme. Very unfortunate.
P.P.S. It seems you purged Pizarro’s conversation/sub-thread! Good on ya’!!!
@davidnihill you have a knack for culturally connective comedy , I’d love to hear you’re perspective on the African American community and our proclivity ( especially the fact that black church gets out way too late for the day and too late for the night ( you have my permission
I have heard twice now, an African activist American published results that 60% of black people in the South have irish DNA,whilst in the North its 40%...I haven't looked up...
I live in Dublin and I’m Latino! Dublin, California!!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Amo tu comedia, eres el comediabte que rompera el internet muy pronto
I EVEN MADE A SONG ABOUT ST. PATRICK'S BATTALION I'M MEXICAN!!!! AND GRATEFUL FOR THE CONNECTION!!! THANK YOU IRISH PEOPLE FOR ALL THAT LOVE !!! MEXICANS NEVER FORGET !!!
I would never be offended by a gringo or european for them talking in spanish; if they're good at it I'll feel flattered, and if they're not, it's the funniest thing I've heard in my life😂
😂😂😂❤❤❤
John Railey was buried in Veracruz and some streets in Mexico are named Irish martys. If you go the inside the senate you can see the names of the all Mexican heroes with gold letters in the walls and you can find San Patrick's batallion
Nice one! From a Galway lad, married to a Colombian, living in Spain. Got a good laugh from this!
I love the cultural appreciation in his bits! It's clear that cultures are a great passion of his and it's great to see. And honestly Americans can definitely benefit from experiencing some culture considering that they don't have any of their own. 😉
(Before white Americans start mass complaining: I'm joking. Now go back to eating your unseasoned boiled chicken.)
Lemon Pepper seasoning thank you very much and grilled. But I'm the weird one in my family who enjoys "spicy" foods. 😆

come on we eat wings

You're AWESOME and very hilarious David, this was only standup? You fooled me, for a second there I thought you were really Irish Latino, I haven't done any geneology research, I just know my paternal grandfather was the son of a Mexican lady who was the daughter of an Irish man with the last name Scanlan who married a Mexican lady.
Haha, that a good craic.
As a mexican living in Dublin I agree with this video Haha 😂❤
i love this guy.....❤....saludos..🇲🇽❤️🇮🇪 desde México
Just found you, you are hilarious 😂😂, saludos de una mexicana, bienvenido!! 🇲🇽🇮🇪
Como mexicano siempre me sentiré agradecido con los irlandeses por lo que hizo el Batallón de Sab Patricio 🇲🇽🫂🇮🇪
You've done your homework! Indeed, I'd read about all these before, but I feel particularly impressed you caught about Alvaro Obregon!
?, dijo algo este wey sobre Obregón?
David, I love your stuff and particularly the history, but the guy who inspired Zorro was William Lamport not Langford.
consistently funny. brilliantly witty. Where can I buy your stuff? Would love to see you live. Take my money!!
Thanks a million! davidnihill.com
Proud to be Irish and this man epitomises who I am as an Irish ancestor , 4th generation Australian.
John Riely, San Patricio brigade ( Saint Patrick's brigade) .
Stood up for his own soldiers rather than be partisan to the filth.
He was hanged for treason along with many others including Polish and Germans who were denied their right to Mass , to our god .
Also appreciate the states of Texas, Arizona and New Mexico plus half of California was once Mexico.
So .
John Riley's death by hanging has never been corroborated.
There are other entries and records indicating he continued as a soldier in Mexico
My mom is Mexican and my dad was American with English, Irish and Scottish with a bit of Spaniard thrown in!
So your mom is native American and your dad is NOT ethnically American but European.
@@veroland3768not all Mexicans are native anymore

I can't remember the comedian, it wasn't Dave. He said one parent was Irish one was Mexican and he used to eat "Lucky Charmos" for breakfast. Dave is so Frecking funny ❤
I'm Puerto Rican but my favorite beer is Guinness and I love a good Whiskey and I relate to The Troubles and I love me some Pogues and drinking shanties and my sister is a ginger with green eyes. We've gotta have some Irish blood somewhere.
As a latianian living in Ireland I have learned about the Saint Patrick battalion thanks to you.
❤
The national hero of Chile who led independence against Spain was Bernando O'Higgins. And yes, he was redhead.
I had never noticed that, there are many similarities, no wonder the Irish fought alongside the Mexicans... we are very similar... it was very funny
I just found my new favorite comedian. David Nihill is soo funny and witty with good story lines. He's handsome to! I'm Mexican-American and particularly loved this stand-up. Congratulations on your success.
I just googled boxing Canelo....wow that's a big Irish head if ever I saw one!
Absolutely fabuloso love ya 🍀
3:09 and that is why Mexico has irish descendants like Canelo Alvarez.
Canelo has no Irish descendants !
the person above meant to call you out on saying “descendants” when you meant to say “ascendence”
@@1986Bautista descendants?
Canelo no tiene ni ascendentes ni descendientes irlandeses, FAKE
Canelo is not Irish and he just suspects he has an Irish grandparent. Red hair does not mean Irish. That is more of a Viking or Scandinavian trait. In fact most Celtic people are dark-haired and even the Vikings wrote about how darker their hair was.
We both know its not easy being green.
As a hispanic, I approve this message. Hilarious! Much love to my Irish brothers & sisters.
Much love back to you, never met a Mexican I didn’t like 🇮🇪🇲🇽
Love the San Patricios. I grew up in Mexico DF and have 50% Irish heritage. The monument to the San Patricios, "los mártires irlandeses" always made me feel quite verglempt (both parents from New York City). It's a sad story actually.
Bienvenido a Latinlandia paisano! 😘😘
The Irish ☘️ fought with the Mexicans in the Mexican American war.
Very funny. Enjoyed your material. It works as you know.
Argentina has a long history of bonding with the Irish. The first leader of our naval army, William "Guillermo" Brown is a national hero and he was irish. Eamon Bulfin was born in Argentina. There is also something about the working class pride that we share, and of course football! You are welcome anytime, Irish Latinos!
I was born in a region of Jalisco, Mexico, known for its light skinned people, and strangely, my grandparents and uncles , ( not my immediate uncles but my grand uncles) they all sang and danced Irish tunes and grandpa played the violin very well, they were all musicians at heart (all my family is, including me), and i love everything Irish, since i remember, why ???.
We need this kind of latino in Argentina. You are welcome any time.
Of course, irish people supported Argentina, during Malvina´s war.
@@alavalle69 It still didn’t do them any good
@@Cobe1976 What are talking about?
Latin what? What Latin?
The entelechies of Latin America, Latam, etc. have never existed... outside of the delusions of black legends.
BECAUSE:
The only Latins that have existed are four ancient peoples of Mediterranean EUROPE: the Italians, the Dacians, the Gauls and the Hispanics. In the current: Italy, Romania-Moldavia, France-Belgium, Spain and Portugal. There were not, nor are there or will there be other Latins.
And those ancient Europeans, Latins, DISAPPEARED, forever, in the distant Ancient Age, a long time ago (back in the beginning of the 5th century). America and Americans will emerge on another continent much later, already in the Modern Age (at the end of the 15th century) when the Spanish discovered the New World. Until that moment, neither America nor Americans existed, they were: Incas, Olmecs, Quechuas, Guaranis, Aztecs, Tlaxcalans, Otomis, Totonacs, Tarascans, Chichimecas, etc. etc.
Saying Latin American is an obvious FALSEHOOD and an IMPOSSIBLE, it is an oxymoron:
- or he was Latin, in which case there were still many centuries to go before another continent was discovered that would be called America and the Americans,
- or he was American, in which case he could never have met Latins who were from Europe and had disappeared more than a THOUSAND years before.
The Spaniards who arrived in America had stopped being Latin long before, after three centuries of Germanic invasions and domination and more than seven centuries of Arab invasion and domination. The Americans emerged from the fusion of the Spaniards (not Latin for more than 10 centuries) with the Native Americans
Where, when, how? There is no Latin or Latinos in the American equation... NEVER, except in the delusions of the black legends.
They are HISPANIC AMERICANS from HISPANIC AMERICA or Latin America.
BECAUSE:
1.- they were SPANIARDS, HISPANICS, not Latinos, who
- discovered America,
- HISPANICIZED it, not Romanized it,
- integrated it into the HISPANIC empire, not the Latin empire
- SPANISHIZED it, not Latinized it.
- left their Christian faith, not the pagan polytheistic Latin faith.
2.- they were HISPANICS, not Latinos, who share centuries of common history with the Americans and together shed blood in common enterprises.
3.- it was Americans who became SPANIARDS, not Latinos, for centuries.
4.- It was HISPANICS, not Latinos, who MIXED, forever with the Americans.
5.- America is full of more than ONE THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED cities, hundreds of ports, dozens of universities, temples, cathedrals, aqueducts, schools, highways, hospitals, dozens of world heritage sites, etc. all founded by Spaniards, not by Latinos of whom there is not, and cannot be, a single remnant or ruin.
6.- A large part of the gastronomy, music, costumes, traditions, "American" are of Hispanic origin, not Latino.
The terms latam, Latin America, etc. are a recent INVENTION (late 19th century) of political propaganda to DECEIVE and UPROOT, with great success as it seems, the Hispanics. Then in the middle of the 20th century the USA took up the terms to DISCRIMINATE against the Hispanics.
You don't think there are Irish in Argentina? The MacAllister soccer family, Che Guevara, Jorge Newberry are 3 of the most famous.
Great stuff Dave!
Thank you David. My belly’s still aching from laughing too much. Irish people have always had a special place in my heart. ❤️ 🇮🇪 🇲🇽☘️
I have a deep respect for the Irish. I've got Irish blood in me but I haven't seen the side of history the people who are full blown Irishmen and women got to before modern times. Nothing will keep an Irishman down except a wound that stops him from using his legs and even then if he still wants to move he'll drag himself there, their spirits will not be crushed
It's interesting, during the Mexican-American war, many Irish fighting for the U.S. switched sides. America descriminated against the Catholics, and Mexico wanted an officially Catholic country.
In Monterrey we celebrate on March 16th the Irish Green Fast, which is the largest Irish festival in Mexico.
As a Latino, i say for all of us when i say "Bienvenido, hermano"
He definitely knows his Irish-Mexican history. As an Irish-Mex personally, bravo. 🍻
The reason many Mexicans have red hair is because our Spanish ancestors were Celtiberians, the Celts are all over Europe.
Red hair is more an Insular Celtic thing and not a pan-Celtic thing.
@@jackieblue1267 Then where is the red hair from in Spain?
@@Duquedecastro It's not from one place it is just that in Ireland, Scotland and Wales there is the highest amount, then places like the Netherlands, Norway etc. Spain has red hair but at a much lower percentage. You can even get some people from India with red hair but of course highly unusual. There was a newspaper article about an Indian girl with natural red hair. The fact that it was news shows how unusual it is there. It's a recessive trait and can pop up anywhere. In some populations it would definitely not be an asset because inheriting red hair also increases inability to tan so a skin cancer risk.
@@jackieblue1267 So you admit it’s not an insular thing, so why the comment
@@Duquedecastro My comment was to point out that is where the redhaired thing comes from as being Celtic when it isn't really a pan-Celtic thing. The Irish and Scots are sometimes stereotypically portrayed as redheaded. People associate being Celtic with Irish and Scots. My comment was pointing out it isn't a pan-Celtic thing to be redheaded. My other comment is to say you can't associate having red hair with any particular population. It is just more common in some populations more than others. It's like how some people associate having blond hair with Viking ancestry. Silly really.

The St. Patrick's Battalion is commemorated on two different days in Mexico: the first, September 9, anniversary of the first executions; and the other, March 17, St. Patrick's Day.
