I am quite shocked at how this little girl’s parents and music teachers allowed this to happen. I understand if her parents are tone deaf or just tend to enjoy what their child does, but the child is clearly passionate about singing and has received HORRIBLE guidance from her coaches. I refuse to believe she reached that stage without at least having one singing teacher. I see a redemption arc, I just KNOW she will come back in 2 years with the most amazing performance. I can’t wait. She deserves so much love.
Her parents are wrong for letting her do that. They set their child up to get bullied for decades to come. This is precisely why parents need to be honest with their children, so they can truly grow. My dad bought me my first drum set when I was 9 years old and I played it for the first time and proudly said to my dad “I’m the best drummer in the world!” My dad looked me in my eyes and said “no you’re not. You’re not even close to being the best, but if you keep practicing one day you will be.” And it motivated me to become better, until I became pretty darn good!

That one player with his hands over his head trying to pretend he was praying while he was laughing, got me rolling. I would have been the one player who couldn't hold back laughing. Not because she sounds bad, but the extra long held notes would have been too much for me. I sang in a singing group in college where we held yearly auditions. And people often sounded bad, and I didn't laugh, but there was this one guy who would just pause for an extra long time trying tl figure out the note to sing when we tried to get him to sing scales, and the long awkard pauses were too much for to contain myself and I cracked. Others guys in the group laughed too, but then they were pissed at me afterwards for cracking. I tried to hold it but it was tough. God bless people who can keep their composure in situations like this. I'm still working on it

Honestly as someone who sings the National anthem and is a singer, I feel so, so bad for this girl. Not only does she sound like she wasn’t trained sufficiently to sing such a hard song, but she was practically set up to fail. It is 100% her parents, and the Pacers staff fault for this one, and I hope she is able to overcome this.

You all need to stop hating on this little girl. Either she couldn't hear herself and that's why she's off key, or her parents and those around her have lied to her. Either way, it wasn't her fault. And her pronunciation comes from trying to articulate the words while also changing pitches and sustain notes better. It's a common singing practice. She overdid it but again, she's a kid.

Not negating her achievement, but the national anthem should NOT be a personal glamorizing performance, but rather an honorable rendition of the original song and its intent. ALL artist should keep this in mind and save their dramatics for their own songs.
