I actually saw many Rabbis in multiple Bayt Knessets within Israel wearing a Sudra wrapped around there head! It’s a beautiful thing to see our culture come back to life!🙌🏽🇮🇱

I think this happened to Jews with the mezuzah, too. Jews had to be discreet because of persecution. But if we look at Samaritan homes, they have verses from the Torah written prominently on their homes.
I am Christian Catholic, And love the Jewish faith and its rituals. I enjoyed this video, but I would like to know not only the history, but WHY the heads are covered. In the Christian tradition, the priest wearing a white alb(the inner garment under the other vestments) is a symbol that he is a baptized Christian. I know the name of the garment, and I know WHY it is worn.
It’s supposed to show reverence to G-d, showing that He is above.
Because of the golden calf, which only men participated in, men have to wear a kippah, among other things, to pray.
I love the sketching while this man speaks, it's really special. I did not know about the Sudra but looking at old photographs and even artwork depicting Jews from antiquity, it is indeed very traditional. Thank you for sharing this.

I very much doubt his explanation of how the Kippah came to be. Jews wore Kippah in the Middle Ages, and if anything - Jews in Europe were forced to wear distinguishing Jewish signs (such as the Jew Hat), definitely were not allowed to hide the Jewishness. The Kippah is an evolution of other middle ages headgear. In any case, the idea that a man always has to wear head covering is relatively new in Jewish history, so if he wants to go back to Maimonides and Rashi - then he can just decide not to wear anything on his head when not dealing in religious matters.

Doesn’t matter. Tell them it’s your history and that you went through 2k years of exile so you don’t look the same as a result. Tell them looks don’t matter, that genetics prove your nativity.

There is no mitzvot nor any Halacha that says we have to cover our heads.
But it is believed to be a sign of respect

You take it off, use the the restroom and put it back on.
The Sudra has no holiness. His explanation of how the kippah came to be is likely false. Unless you’re wearing a tallit or tefillin you can go in a bathroom
Thank you for sharing and teaching about religion and culture without minimizing or being derogatory to other cultures and religions.
I would also like to note that many of the described treatments to Jews were not Islamic in nature. Religious leaders and rulers created those laws but many (almost all) have no bases in islam and are actually seen as infringing on someone's rights.
Jizya was basically like a tax for protection since no taxes was to be collected under religious law and only Zakat is collected from Muslims.
Jiza and Zakat are not to impose undo hardship, something many leaders whole ignored. It's said that in the time of the prophet Jizya was around 2 percent of a person's income. That's a far cry from what leaders chose to do having upwards and sometimes over 50 percent.
It's honestly sad how we all now pay high taxes outside of Islamic countries (though many have or are moving towards taxation). The US tax rate all together is around have a person's salary which is insane.
I just wished to share that leaders don't reflect the religion or scripture. They will also have to face their maker for their sins and warping the religion.
I was raised in the Middle East and tend to try to leave comments so people can understand more.

I do not think that Rudy's historical assessment is correct. Also, Jews are a people who adapt with the times and at this point, assuming what he is saying is factual, why would we dress like that?
