I wish it was longer!!! This was so powerful and authentic. Jabrea I’m so proud of you! Keep the conversation going and break the cycle of generational trauma!
Jabrea you are what the world needs more of...you are a living example of what transforming suffering looks like...inspiring others to have courage not to give up and realize what lies within the heart is more powerful than the trauma of the past. We have the power to define ourselves. Jabrea there is no doubt you are on your true path. May you always surround yourself with people who support you where you are so you can continue becoming the gift that you are.
Thank you for your bravery and I hope you are filled with peace. Even though I loved this talk and realize that you are young and still finding your way, there are conflicting ideas here that cannot be reconciled. If intergenerational trauma is “everlasting, ” how can the cycle of intergenerational trauma be stopped? If the cycle can be stopped, then it is not everlasting. Maybe the most critical idea to grasp is that the trauma is perpetuated and re-cycled by a socio-cultural narrative, and that presents the individual’s responsibility to create a new narrative. That, I think, was Malcolm X’s way of thinking. An old narrative keeps one stuck in pain. You are inventing your own narrative, and it’s beautiful to see.
Intergenerational trauma is everlasting because the catalysts of trauma itself are unavoidable. Each generation has its own events that trigger trauma which is then perpetuated by the inescapable trauma caused by relationships. Romantic relationships, platonic, and with our immediate family. We never stop navigating that as we grow older and so therefore that cycle is something we live learning to break. My goal was to change the narrative around that process. My point isn't to say that you should work to break the cycle and the cycle can literally be stopped; my point was to say that you should work to understand and navigate the cycle because that's when the trauma isn't so gut-wrenching and affective. That's when each day isn't as heavy and you find what you need to keep pushing and moving on. Change the narrative and trust the process.
I am literally sobbing. "I'm not lazy, I'm tired." Thank you Jabrea.
