    The crew at MCU has their hands full; glassing and blending-in a custom made leaning post, installing high-powered underwater lights on a classic Mako, and more; also, FS Boating Editor Dave East meets with Jamie DeSantiago, to discuss the restoration of his classic Hewes Bonefisher, customized at MCU for targeting snook and tarpon.

    Nice boat, I was not familiar with the Hewes, was thinking about buying a Mako LTS 18 with a 115hp Mercury. Ended up two weeks ago with a 1999 Hewes Bonfisher with a 140 hp Suzuki. Has power pole, Motor Guide trolling motor, trim tabs, Garmin Nav, LED lights all over it including the live well, Continental trailer, aluminum wheels etc. Love the boat, rides great...great flats boat.

    MORE torque on a 4 stroke 90 than a 115 two stroke? That doesn't make sense?

    • @ramboassgoblin
      @ramboassgoblin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know that's what I thought, just advertising

    • @kylewalker7072
      @kylewalker7072 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      they dont even rate them in torque. but even if they did, boats arent cars and the road doesnt slip by like water does. hp more important, but especially weight, and time to marx rpm and time to plane especially.

      especially early 4 stroke mercs they were useless heavy

    tired of this guy when its flat and he says that the boat handled well in those conditions lol

  • @kylewalker7072
    @kylewalker7072 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    explain to me how a four stroke has more "torque" than a 2 stroke. on a 2 stroke, every time the piston comes doen it is a power stroke. on a 4 stroke, its every 4. its clear yall love yamaha, and thats the one what brung ya, but a light 2 stroke is a much better option where weight matters, like the bone fishing boat.

    • @kyleproctor9866
      @kyleproctor9866 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Walker 4 strokes last longer, more efficient and now there isnt much weight difference

    • @kylewalker7072
      @kylewalker7072 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      your point is fair about the 4 strokes getting lighter, but a 2 stroke will still have a better hole shot and plane faster, both important for shallow water boats. also, in thr 75 down hp range, 2 strokes are still significantly lighter. for example, compare 50 tohatsu with 50 mercury

    • @TheDoug9901
      @TheDoug9901 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      weight wise the 4 strokes are better but they are dropping 2 cylinders down to a 4 cylinder from a 6. I would look real hard at Evinrude before I would go to a 4 stroke

    • @kylewalker7072
      @kylewalker7072 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ditto, or even a chinese 2 stroke if itnwas available in hp i needed

    • @timclevenger5348
      @timclevenger5348 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I now this is an old thread but i couldn't resist correcting this. What you are missing is he said it has more torque "out of the hole". 2 strokes will have more torque but at a higher RPM. By producing more torque lower in the band the 4 stroke will perform better in the scenario he gave of the hole shot.
