  • In part 2 of our Dawson adventures we visit Tony Beets Dredge and marine fleet, Durt Reynolds, Parker Schnabel's claim and then visit an actual operating mine and follow all the steps that they go through to get Yukon Gold. The stuff you don't see on Gold Rush!
    We've explored hundreds of abandoned mines in Canada the United States and Mexico, going places nobody else would dare to go! A New video is produced every Friday, check us out here:
    • Newest To Oldest Videos
    We do this for two main reasons:
    1) Documenting the mines for future generations.
    2) Collecting artifacts for our museum.
    Mines are being filled in, demolished, and/or collapsing at an alarming rate, so it is crucial to document them and save these artifacts while it is still possible.
    Join us for our weekly adventures as we go deep underground into historic abandoned hard rock Gold, Silver and Copper mines. We relive the Prospecting, Gold Rush days, going back in history with every expedition. Visiting abandoned and forgotten places, climbing down mine shafts into dangerous mines, finding treasures, seeing antique heavy equipment such as ore carts, crushers, milling machines, ball mills, explosives and other mining equipment.
    This isn't Minecraft but the real deal!
    Come visit our Exploring Abandoned Mines Museum in Grand Forks, B.C. Canada.The museum is open to the public, free of charge, donations gratefully accepted. We have a huge assortment of mining artifacts accumulated from abandoned mines, donations, and other collections. We also have operating mining equipment on display.
    Museum is located at 5615 Kenmore Rd Grand Forks BC Canada V0H-1H4. Best to phone first 250-444-0183. Come for a visit! www.google.com/maps/place/Exp...

    That is the most efficient way to get every flake or shape of gold. Parker has made millions of gold from his productiveness in mining/dredging. Seen this spiral pan, it works real well, getting all those fines. Love this video, so much detailed info. Thanks Frank and Sharon.

    Those sacrificial zinc anodes protects the steel hull through an electrical potential meaning that when the steel of the hull is attacked the electrons of the zinc flow to cover the steel. It is the same as plating metal parts just on a larger scale and without an external energy source. Outboard motors and drives have a zinc anode built into them to slow or stop aluminum from corroding. It's why they can't be painted. Well, actually they can be painted but it negates the entire purpose. I am really impressed with your drone work, it is very professional. My drone only seems to record trees, buildings, cars, and the ground coming at it extremely quickly. Really nice video.

    Thanks Frank and Sharon. Interesting take on the non-entertainment side of gold mining. It's surprising how active the mining industry currently is in the Yukon. The drive from the Dawson airport to Dawson is a real eye opener and probably severely shocks people with a green bent even though the mining took place around a hundred years ago. Looking forward to your next program.

    • @exploringabandonedmines
      @exploringabandonedmines  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There has been a lot of gravel moved around in the Dawson area since the Gold Rush started in 1896 and it continues to this day. However it is confined to a fairly small area.

  • @DFDuck55
    @DFDuck55 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    When I was a commercial fisherman we had a 3x5 foot zinc sacrificial anode (aka galvanic anode) on each side of the wooden hull. I forget now which way it is but too much zinc and the electrolysis eats the wood, too little zinc and it eats the metal. Or the other way around. I would connect the ground side of my CB antenna to that zinc plate, which effectively made the Pacific Ocean part of my antenna, and I could talk for hundreds of miles.

    • @MOTOMINING
      @MOTOMINING 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never heard of them eating wood, but you gotta keep the zincs off the hull or they don't work as good.

    • @DFDuck55
      @DFDuck55 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MOTOMINING: If the electrical potential of the zinc anode is too high it will cause the cellulose fibers in the wood, which gives wood it's strength, to deteriorate, causing dry rot. Especially around through hull fittings, causing seepage and leaks.

Reminds me of when I ran an aggregate plant back in the '70s, in Concrete, Wa. the same basic set up as their screen set up, we were grading rock, but they are pushing a lot more material through, and a lot more water and not grading rock. We even had a gold recovery set up for a while using mercury on copper plates for a while. Not enough to matter. LOL. Keep having fun, I know you are!

    Dang nice videoing as some people feel the need to show everything at once and so I get motion sick watching. I really liked the drone work as well, very good angles showing more of the depth of the machine. I was at the very first, sucked right into gold rush and part of was I was crippled and couldn't work my little placer claim ... I did mostly paper work at the shop I used to own. That old machine on tonys dredge would of made my heart sing and then to think it was really working. I pretty much quit watching gold rush when the petty wars started. I don't mind a challenge but if I own all the land an set my royalties at fifty per cent, there would be no arguments.... we don't tell who to hire or how to get it out of the ground. I will mine it myself or if you want land that you think has gold

    The bedrock in the Sulphur Creek cut is "soft" because it is a decomposed schist. So it is not a layer, but is the bedrock. It is often decomposed at the gravel contact due to groundwater alteration.

As a dredger for 35 years I’ve often found several different pay layers due to clay and usually the deeper ones have more gold. Of course you always have a dead zone in between those layers.

    Very interresting to see "Gold Rush" from "behind the scenes". I have been watching many of those shows, and it's alot of hard job for the gold they get. But they make alot of mess, destoy the land very much. Do they have to clean up when they are finished mining, and bring the landscape back to as it was before they started mining? Or do they just leave it as it is, heading for a new claim? I love your videos, Frank - and I am happy you have found a beautiful partner to join you too :) Greetings from Norway.
