    The way he handles these magnificent creatures is something to behold. They are dripping wet for his 2 second slomo shot and then it is straight back into the water. Nice to see someone who has such respect for these fishes that he does not subject them to minutes out of water or excessive handling. Well done, sir.

    nice stuff, mmm Tag Ends! A good push there! with the amount of us followers now you are an influencer, are you concerned about habitat? Did you notice all the sprayed dead trees on that stream? Its all about habitat .........

    • @struck2soon
      @struck2soon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Josh, I am guessing those sprayed trees are the non-native and invasive willow tree. They have choked and sucked dry a lot of smaller streams. The Department of Conservation have been eradicating them on many rivers and streams over recent years. Why? To improve the habitat!

    • @pierevojzola9737
      @pierevojzola9737 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Jason, yep the river managements job is not up to scratch and you spotted the result. The other is the water quality is let down by our farmer’s allowing river access to their stock, thus we have river bank erosion and piss and shit fouling our rivers. We need better fencing but that can be expensive as with cattle the farmers would have to put in water troughs and pipes etc. Since the downturn in sheep numbers and the upturn in milking cows, our rivers have had a pollution tsunami. I just hope things will change for the better. Harera

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah they have been sprayed I think bro.

    • @georgefairweathermoonlight4
      @georgefairweathermoonlight4 3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @Mickey-qs9pm

    Great video. I noticed all the dead fall and no young trees. I assume this is caused by grazing livestock.

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. I’m not too sure of the reasoning there bro🤷‍♂️

    • @Mickey-qs9pm
      @Mickey-qs9pm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrippinOnTrout I am making the observation based on what happened to the streamside habitat where I live. Decades of grazing along the streams prevented the young trees from growing and over time the older trees died off. This lead to a lot of erosion of the banks. With help from the Ministry of Environment we worked with farmers and ranchers to fence off areas to keep cattle from the banks. There are selected spots where cattle are allowed to access the water to drink. We also got together with different environmental groups and started a program to plant natural trees and shrubs. This is stabilizing the banks, providing shade which helps keep the water temperature lower and provides habitat for wild life which has now returned.

    I take it all the small fish are hiding! Can't believe these "uge" fish are out in the open in bright sunlight! I guess if you want to get humongous like that, you gotta eat 24/7. I take it that these big fish probably eat mice, ducklings, and the odd angler now and again. Beautiful footage as usual .... nothing like some drone footage to give a little more perspective. Yeah I got a bit mislead there Clark by a buddy telling me about that access being public so seems I was in the wrong there. Actually bumped into Mark and had a good chat with him, lovely guy and he made no mention of me not allowed to be there so a bit confused.
      Either way, won’t be using that access again without having a yarn with him first.
      Not out there to upset anyone

    I just keep coming back to this video. It shows just how good NZ fishing is. No helicopter required, No walk in through jungle, the stream is loaded with big brown that take dries. Fly fishing paradise.

    Amazing sight fishing video and trout prospecting experience! Looks like everything came together for you, definitely need to cherish those days. We are lucky enough to catch 1-2 brown trout that size per year where I'm from in the States but you landed several. Looks like a good spot to strip some mouse patterns across the top!

    A classic NZ small stream. Reminds me I am well overdue for a NZ visit. Just need to deal with that virus first. Very nice footage and editing. Nice handling of the fish, although personally I never touch the fish. With the benefit a McLean weighing, I can net, weigh and quickly release the fish without having to handle it. I know that doesn’t make for good filming. Question though, why not tie your flies on barbless hooks rather than de-barbing? I have tried just about every brand there is over 40 years and now I’m completely sold on Hanák for the strength and finest of the wire. I basically use H130 for dries and H230 for wets for 90% of my patterns, plus a couple of other styles for streamers (H970) and midge pupae etc. (H390). I only use other brands if a client insists. Barbed hooks are not designed to be de-barbed or crimped. In fact, I found it actually weakens the point, and crimping seems to impede penetration of the point. I definitely lost more fish on crimped hooks. Graham, Tassie.

    • @TrippinOnTrout
      @TrippinOnTrout  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching mate.
      I actually don’t tie 98% of my flies and so some of the patterns I use don’t come in a barbless option so I just crush em🤙

    • @greummac
      @greummac 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrippinOnTrout Fair enough. There's been times when I've had to buy flies when other work commitments kept me from the tying bench. But, there's nothing better than catching fish on your own flies, especially your own pattern. It's the hokey poky on top of the ice cream. Cheers, Gra
