5588 apn 5588 apn I get your point. Thank you for the correction. But I wouldn’t say the “ generalisation” is racist, as the definition of racism is to disrespect/consider oneself superior to someone because of their race/skin colour. Not their opinions.

    • @user-ry3lg7dw6s
      @user-ry3lg7dw6s 5 ปีที่แล้ว +149

@@Nhn-hu5uq "Humans have two arms." Is this sentence strange to you? Probably not, right? Then what about "Humans have three arms?" It is strange, isn't it? But why strange? There are people who have three arms. What is the difference between the former and the latter? I think the difference is how many people in each condition there are in the world. As you know, the number of people who have two arms is far greater than that of people with three arms. In other words, the vast majority of humans have only two arms. That's why the former sentence sounds more correct than the latter sentence despite it being true that there are indeed people who have three arms. So if you want to make a sentence to describe a certain group of people as a certain quality, you have to be sure that the majority of that group of people have that quality.
Now, this sweiland75 person said, "Japanese don't mind being openly racist but do mind being criticized for it." The implications of this sentence is that the majority of Japanese are a bunch of open racists, therefore, Japanese are mostly evil people. As I said earlier, to make a sentence to label a certain group of people as a certain quality, you have to make sure that what you say about the group of people is true for the majority of them. But it's blatantly obvious that there is no way to measure the actual number of racist Japanese and what percentage of Japanese are racists. Then how did he know that Japanese are racist? Because of this video? Even if what interviewees said about Japanese is true, that doesn't mean most Japanese are racist, right? It only proves some Japanese are racist. So the only reason I can think of why he said what he said is because he just wants it to be the case that the majority of Japanese are racists. In other words, he's saying Japanese are racists, hateful people, for the sake of hating Japanese. In my opinion, a racist is someone who hates a certain group of people based on their race, ethnicity or nationality. He is clearly exuding hate for Japanese. That's why I said, "That's racist."

To be honest, Japan is a great country to stay in for 1-2 years while studying at a language school or something like that, and just play around. When it comes to living in Japan its another story. After the novelty wears off many foreigners get depressed like the white guy in the video because the Japanese after all are too different, and the Japanese society simply is too depressing and its pure hell to work there. There is a reason why like 10-20 people jump in front of the train every single day only in Tokyo. When it comes to discrimination white people are probably rated highest, but I out of experience know that many many Japanese people dislike white people as well. Of course everyone is friendly when you meet them but they can talk some really nasty stuff behind closed doors, I've heard it myself. When it comes to other Asian people, black people, Indian people etc, they unfortunately don't like them at all. It wouldn't surprise me if they are like 100 years behind when it, especially, comes to the view of black people. I have heard Japanese people openly call black people "scary gorillas" numerous times followed by laughter. Of course they wouldn't say this in front of black people. Sorry to say this.
I lived in Japan for a long time (15+ years) in the past because of work and almost all foreigners I used to meet there were like the sad white guy in the video, or they became like that after a few years. Almost everyone was really depressed and had no real Japanese friends at all, not even people who had been there for 10+ years. Its so hard to connect with Japanese people on a deep level so most foreigners in Japan end up hanging out with other foreigners.
In Japan you will always be seen and treated as a gaijin (outsider), it doesn't matter if you speak more fluent Japanese than the Japanese themselves, it doesn't matter if you have better manners than the Japanese themselves, you will always be that outsider. Every single time a Japanese person talks to you, they will talk to you as an outsider in their mind. You will never be a "normal person" in Japan no matter how much you try. All this together becomes a super negative, lonely and depressing cycle in the long run and thats why most foreigners escape the country after a few years.

But yet they are expressing their gerviances like something is gonna happen...

If you are the first to enter an empty elevator, you are the new elevator captain.
As the elevator captain, stand close to the control panel and hold the door open button until everyone safely boards the vehicle.
Once the last person boards, let go of the open button and press the close button immediately. Hold until door is closed. You must abort the procedure if anyone decides to sneak in.
As the captain, you must now hold the door open for each floor the elevator stops. And use video game dexterity to immediately hold close when the last person exits.
If this is your floor, you must be the last to abandon ship, hold door open until everyone exits. Then you may exit.
The closest person to the control panel must now become the new elevator captain. The new captain must hold the open button until the previous captain exits.

five big reasons why the Japanese doesn't make good friends:
1 they are too lazy to learn foreign languages and they laugh at our accents when we speak their language
2 they never tell us what mistakes we would make, even though it is the only solution to improve us in front of them
3 they judge what people deserve to hear their "honne" (true thoughts and feelings) and they lies most of the time
4 they insult us behind the back without seeking to know us more and they refuse to talk about themselves
5 and they are too serious , they only swears by work-work in their life and by their rules
interacting with them is a waste of time for westerners. don't understand the weeaboo people pretending they can befriending them.

But today just questioning a person about their behavior is seen as persecution.

It is true that this channel seems to have a slight bias, but commenting on complaints about it will not solve anything. I think we need to take the issue of discrimination in Japan seriously. This is not simply because of Japanese people's fear of foreigners. One of the major barriers that long-term immigrants to Japan face is the sense of alienation, which I find very difficult to deal with.
I have learned many things from the comments in this video. "You speak good Japanese!" used as a compliment which is used as a compliment, can also be seen as insulting. Anyway, I am glad that I learned something. I've made a step forward.

Im my opinion as a Japanese, the habit, not sitting next to people on trains doesn’t include any intention to discriminate you. It’s just their choices, thinking that I don’t have to sit just for 5 or 10 minutes and there is a someone sitting next to an empty seat, and I know if I sit there, the person next to me may feel uncomfortable because Japanese seats on trains is usually narrow and people are packed. Sorry for my obscure English, but I would like you to know that is not always discrimination.

Basically, it's like "If you want to visit our country or enjoy our services, you're always welcomed. But if you want to be a part of us? we don't think so.” I’m sorry if any Japanese feels offended when reading my comment. It’s just my opinion and I’m not against you guys at all. I once had lived in Japan during my junior high school years. It's late 80s. I went to Japanese school instead of Int'l one. Most of Japanese classmates were very kind to me even though I was from Korea. I didn't feel discriminated most of time for sure. I have many many happy memories. But a funny thing happened when I came back to Japan after a long period of time. About 5 years ago I had to pay for a visit to O-oska for business. Those people in immigration asked me a couple things in Korean, with a very rude attitude. It kinda surprised me. I never expected that kind of hostility. They asked me like this in Korean ; "I say put your bag over here! over here!". "I will say this only once, what brings you to come to Japan?" in a rude manner - I did act kindly and I did exactly what they ordered me to. but they said those things in Korean with a very rude manner. Where did they learn their Korean language btw? I felt like I was being treated like a suspect or a potential criminal. Couldn't say it was a nice experience. Maybe they were under too much stress? Maybe many Korean tourists do not cooperate? I have no idea. lol

five big reasons why the Japanese doesn't make good friends:
1 they are too lazy to learn foreign languages and they laugh at our accents when we speak their language
2 they never tell us what mistakes we would make, even though it is the only solution to improve us in front of them
3 they judge what people deserve to hear their "honne" (true thoughts and feelings) and they lies most of the time
4 they insult us behind the back without seeking to know us more and they refuse to talk about themselves
5 and they are too serious , they only swears by work-work in their life and by their rules

Racism in Japan tends to be more passive than it is in the west because it comes more from ignorance than anything else, like history or politics. I can't speak for everyone when I say this but I don't think you'll have to worry about getting yelled at, assaulted, being called slurs and the Iike but it's more of people unwilling to talk to you unless they're sure you speak Japanese, having trouble finding apartments for rent (huge issue, idk why it's not discussed in the video), and the like. You can probably see why that sort of thing may wear on you after a while (like the white guy in the video) especially if you haven't ever experienced racism in your life or life was better in your native country to begin with.

I am from Sri Lanka. I am quite shocking about this video. Actually when I was Japan it’s so hard to find a friend. But when Japanese became friends with you, man that’s real friendship. Most of foreigners try to be a super man in Japan. They try to compare everything with their country. Try to act like leadership role. Specially westerners. I noticed they were talking in English so loudly in public.Japanese are scared for that. If they don’t know English they never come to you. Then try to avoid you. If a someone doesn’t want sit with you, there are so many reasons for that. Maybe that person thinks his smell is bad for foreigner or scared of English.
So if you are from western or Eastern it doesn’t matter. It’s depends on your personality. Just be a Japanese when you are in Japan . Try to speak in broken japanese. That’s all. I have lot of friends in Japan. They visit me and I go there. I am from a Buddhist society, Most of ritual and cultural things are so similar with my society. Therefore I did not have any difficulties when I was there. Japanese are like a coconut 🥥. Outside so tough and inside so sweet.
