Currently, I'm 16 years old, and I like to listen to jazz, Bossa-novas, and other genres such as vaporwave, which kinda a sub-genre of jazz.
Unfortunately, with my age, I'm often expected to know modern music like drill or pluugnb etc. I have no problems with genres but I'd say and this is according to my faith, that these type of music only bring cognitive harm enforcing negative thoughts and normalise cursing people etc.
The message is just try to listen to music that really unwinds you from a day of work and that will uplift you, remember that your choice of music is your choice so dont allow anyone to force you into genres or listening to sounds that you are not fond of.

Great video James. I definitely recommend that you get into listening to classical music, as it is definitely the music of a gentleman. A good starting point is baroque pieces from Bach, Handel and Vivaldi and classical pieces from Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven as these really create a mood of elegance and sophistication, and Mozart's piano works in particular are really easy listening for people less familiar with classical music.

I love that you immediately reach for Station To Station. That album is honestly one of his most timeless works. Bowie's albums tend to be reflective of the eras they were born in, and STS is no exception, but that era of popular music has a real staying power or influence that the other decades in the 20th century just can't lay claim to... Except the '90s.
Also I am offended that Al Yankovic is not included. I cannot imagine anyone pursuing a true gentleman's musical palate without 'The Biggest Ball of Twine In Minnesota'.

Blues, jazz and classic rock all the way! The first vinyl record I ever bought was Chet Baker and Bill Evans' Alone Together, that one will always hold a special place in my heart. Probably my all-time favourite albums are Chet Baker Sings and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue, though. Love a bit of Sinatra and Dean Martin, it was listening to them and Elvis as a kid that inspired me to get into singing myself, but I wouldn't really classify them as "jazz" per se. When it comes to blues I love a lot of artists, but I have an especial fondness for BB King, Muddy Waters and Janis Joplin. As for rock I'll take pretty much anything, from Elvis, to Dylan, to Hendrix, to AC/DC, to Oasis... I have an especial fondness for bluesy rock though, a la Stones, Creedence, ZZ Top, etc.

I like Huey Lewis and the News. Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I was in the same boat back in late 90s and 2000s. It gets better but you’ll always be in a niche crowd. The up side is you make friends with people you might not otherwise and occasionally even open doors to new opportunities just because of Jazz.

As a portuguese I have to agree, bossa nova is simply the best. Brazil also has Tim Maia which is one of the best performers in soul/jazz music and not many people know of. I got to give it to the brazilians, no one does chill music like them. Also one recommendation, the portuguese version of Jobim "Garota de Ipanema" is way better than the english version with Sinatra "Girl from Ipanema".

Suppose I must put away my Iron Maiden albums, Bruce Dickinson will be disappointed. I do like the music you suggested and I already have much of it, I also have a lot of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller. I really would like more "music videos", you named off some right proper musicians from my generation and then there's the newer stuff you mentioned. A video about home entertainment component systems like speakers, turntables, amps and EQ's would be helpful instead of just dumping loads of money on mismatched components that don't play well together. Like buying a set of McIntosh XR100 but then trying to drive them with a stereo receiver and no amp or eq.

Swing and easy listening are also pretty vintage alongside Jazz. Any favorite artists? Excellent content as always. I also enjoy Classical and Metal but it varies depending on my mood.

Well done!! This is all spot on. As a jazz musician, I find the most common myth about jazz is that you have to “know something about it” to like it. This is not true and it often scares people away who would otherwise appreciate it.

I like the discussion, but a gentleman does explore music as he would other works of art. Listening to difficult music need not be shared with everyone . . .we are all learning.

If a gentleman has a lady over for dinner, one whom he likes quite a bit, at some point in the evening will likely put on Leroy Hutson's eponymously titled album "Hutson."

Great choices!... Might I add some recommendations though... as for Jazz, 'Time Out' by the Dave Brubeck Quartet and "The Witch Doctor' by Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers... Also, during the holidays, I love listening to the 'Charlie Brown Christmas' soundtrack by the Vince Guaraldi Trio.... For the Rock category, I love the sound of The Everly Brothers and easy laid back nature of The Beatles 'Rubber Soul'. Oh and THANK YOU for mentioning the masterpiece by Roxy Music 'Avalon' (THAT is a favorite of my wife... Always puts us both in a romantic mood)

Another enjoyable video. I’d like to add to the list of jazz artists: Ella Fitzgerald, Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66, and Joni Mitchell.
There are also some wonderful jazz tracks by non-Jazz artists. “North Dakota” as performed by Lyle Lovett and Rickie Lee Jones is my favorite example.
Please do continue to explore music in your videos!
