Create Realistic Water Trail Using Dynamic Paint & Ocean Modifier Together In Blender Eevee & Cycles

  • In this tutorial, we have discussed how to use Dynamic Paint with Ocean Modifier in Blender. Using dynamic paint, we can enable an object like a ship interact directly with a surface. And using ocean modifier, we can easily create a ocean surface. Now combining these two might look little challenging. We have done that using the wetmaps created by dynamic paint. Please watch the video for the complete tutorial. If you have any question on this tutorial, please leave your comment below.

    How did i not think of this? I was just hired to create a scene exactly like this for a movie in a few months using blender and (though I haven´t started producing it yet) I was trying to think of a way to pull off this effect. I was already using vertex paint for the foam on the waves, how did I not think of this? Thank you for existing, you´re a life saver!!!

      Thank you so much for the appreciation 💝💝 With Geo nodes, this may not be possible yet. Geo Nodes mainly help in modeling. Whatever we do today with some modifiers and editing tools (in edit mode) - the same is being replaced by Geo Nodes for procedural design. But dynamic paint is Blender physics. I think physics interactions are not going to be implemented in Geo Nodes, at least that is not in the plan as far as I know.

    • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, your version is perfectly fine. You need to add a MixRGB node from the Color group. Within this node, you can change the function to Add/Subtract, and the node title changes to Add/Subtract. There is no separate node called Add/Subtract. I hope this helps.

    Hey, for some reason the foam trail becomes really wide right next to the boat. Like the brush mesh is bigger than it really is. What settings would affect this?

    • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing is how much you dip the ship inside the water surface. The amount of overlap between the two. Secondly, for the canvas (water surface) you can adjust two fields: Scale Influence and Radius. They control the intensity of the trail and how far the trail spreads. If you cannot still get the desired effect with these settings, the last resort is to customize the effect in the shader settings. You need to setup the trail such that there is very low effect (so that the water near the ship remains calm). But to get a large trail behind the ship, you need to multiply the effect through shader settings, so that the trail becomes exaggerated behind the ship. I hope you can get it perfected through the physics settings alone, and that is the best option, but I told you the backup route also. All the best 👍

  • @Daymanoahha
    @Daymanoahha ปีที่แล้ว +1

    hmm, followed this step by step, but the dynamic paint trail on yours looks smooth and fades out nicely. On mine I can see every vertex sharply and there is no soft fade out, any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? thanks :)

    • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I guess the noise texture settings in your shader may have the clue. Depending upon the absolute size of the objects in your scene, you need to tweak the shader settings for a realistic output. Those values shown in this tutorial are specifically suitable for the model we used. You can play with those settings and see if things improve. Additionally, if you can afford it, join our channel through the Join button. Once you become a member, you have access to our original blend files used for these tutorials. You can download the same and compare with yours, or you can directly experiment with the source file. It is not mandatory, but it can save some of your time and help you learn better. All the best!

    How to Save Geometry Nodes Set up for future Projects.....Second Time (Another Time )When we Open Blender we can find All Geometry Set up We Built Before Blender Closing.

    • @5MinutesBlender
      @5MinutesBlender  ปีที่แล้ว

      We add geometry nodes to an object, it remains there as a modifier. In the second project, you can append this object from the first file. A copy of the object will come to this second file along with the entire node setup. Alternatively, you can also save it in the asset library and reuse it later. We're coming up with a tutorial on how to use assets.

    • @5MinutesBlender

      @@sammedia3d Hi, Blender can crash for several reasons, the most common reason is lack of sufficient RAM to process a heavy scene. For other reasons, if you restart Blender and it works, you can simply forget that one-off case. You can add an emission shader for the foam and increase its brightness to make it more white.
